Introduction of Maharashtra Pink E Rickshaw Scheme: A Brief Insight
- Government of Maharashtra announced on 28-06-2024 to start the Pink E Rickshaw Scheme for women while presenting their supplementary budget.
- Now, the Pink E Rickshaw Scheme is officially launched in Maharashtra.
- The main aim behind starting this scheme in the State is to empower Women and make them self-reliant by giving them a source of employment.
- Women and Child Development Department of the Government of Maharashtra is the responsible department for this scheme.
- Maharashtra Government will now assist and support needy women to get self-employment opportunities so that they can be self-reliant financially and socially.
- Under the Pink E Rickshaw Scheme, women beneficiaries can now purchase E Rickshaws and get a government subsidy on them at the time of purchase.
- Government of Maharashtra will provide a subsidy of 20% on the actual price of an E Rickshaw under the Pink E Rickshaw Scheme.
- Whereas, women beneficiaries will have to contribute 10% of the cost of the E Rickshaw on their own.
- The remaining 70% price of the E Rickshaw will be managed through bank loans.
- This means out of 4 Lakh which is the actual price of E Rickshaw, the Government contribution is Rs. 80,000/-, the women applicant contribution is Rs. 40,000/- and the remaining Rs. 2,80,000/- will be covered as a bank loan.
- Women beneficiaries can repay the bank loan provided under the Pink E Rickshaw Scheme along with interest in 5 years.
- Specifications of E Rickshaw provided under the Maharashtra Government’s Pink E Rickshaw Scheme are as follows :-
- Price of E Rickshaw :- Rs. 4 Lakh.
- Capacity of Motor :- 10 HP.
- Charge/ Mileage :- 110 Kilometres.
- Seater :- 3+1 (Driver)
- This scheme will be implemented in a phased manner, in which 10,000/- E Rickshaws will be provided to 10,000 women beneficiaries in the first phase in 17 cities of Maharashtra.
- A woman beneficiary cannot sublet her E Rickshaw to any person, she has to drive it herself.
- If the annual family income of a woman beneficiary is more than Rs. 3,00,000/- then she is not eligible to get a subsidy on the purchase of E Rickshaw under this scheme.
- Priority will be given to the following women applicants if applied by them :-
- Widow or Divorced Women.
- Orphans.
- BPL Families.
- Eligible and Needy Women Beneficiaries can apply for the Pink E Rickshaw Scheme through the Application Form which is available at any District Office of Women and Child Development Department.
- In case of any help or assistance required regarding this scheme, beneficiary women can contact their nearest District Office of the Women and Child Development Department.
- Women applicants can also apply for “Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana” in which monthly financial assistance will be provided by the Maharashtra Government to all eligible women.

Benefits Provided to Eligible Women Beneficiaries
- Maharashtra Government will provide the following benefits to all needy and eligible women beneficiaries under its new Pink E Rickshaw Scheme :-
- Needy Women can purchase an E Rickshaw under this scheme for Employment.
- 20% price of the E Rickshaw will be borne by the Maharashtra Government.
- Women Beneficiaries will have to contribute 10% price of E Rickshaw.
- The remaining 70% price of the E Rickshaw will be provided in the form of a Bank Loan.
- The repayment time of the Bank Loan under this scheme is 5 Years.

Eligibility Conditions Required to be Fulfilled
- Subsidy on the purchase of E Rickshaw under the Government of Maharashtra Pink E Rickshaw Scheme will only be provided to those women who fulfil the following eligibility criteria of scheme :-
- Beneficiary Women should be Permanent residents of Maharashtra.
- The Age of Beneficiary Women should be more than 18 years and less than 35 years.
- The Annual Family Income of Women Beneficiaries should not be more than Rs. 3,00,000/-.
- Women Beneficiary should have a Driving License in her name.
- Women Beneficiary should have a Bank Account in her name.
Documents Required to be Attached
- Documents that are required to be attached with the Application Form of Pink E Rickshaw Scheme at the time of application are as follows :-
- Aadhar Card of the Women Applicant.
- PAN Card of Women Applicant.
- Resident Proof/ Domicile of Maharashtra.
- Family Annual Income Certificate.
- Bank Account Details.
- Passport Size Photograph.
- Copy of Driving License,
- Voter Identity Card.
- Hami Patra.
How Women Beneficiaries Can Apply for this Scheme
- Women Beneficiaries can purchase an E Rickshaw on subsidy for their employment under the Maharashtra Government’s Pink E Rickshaw Scheme by applying through Application Form.
- Application Form of Pink E Rickshaw Scheme is available free of cost at the District Office of the Women and Child Development Department.
- Collect the Application Form and fill it correctly.
- Attach all the mandatory documents to the Application Form.
- Now, submit the Pink E Rickshaw Scheme Application Form along with all the documents to the Women and Child Development Department District Office.
- A committee headed by the District Collector, with other members, will scrutinise the application forms received and make a list of eligible women beneficiaries.
- The list of Women eligible to get E Rickshaws will then be sent to lending banks for the approval of the loan.
- Once the bank approves the 70% amount of the E Rickshaw as a loan, the Women’s Application will have to submit the 10% cost of the E Rickshaw to the vehicle agency.
- After the Women Beneficiary receives the Permit to purchase an E Rickshaw, the District Women and Child Development Officer will transfer the government subsidy of 20% directly to the vehicle agency.
- Women Beneficiaries will get the Pink E Rickshaw after completing all the documentation and procedures.
- The application status of the Pink E Rickshaw Scheme will be checked by visiting the District Office of the Women and Child Development Department.
