  • Rajasthan Government started the Varistha Nagrik Tirth Yatra Yojana (वरिष्ठ नागरिक तीर्थ यात्रा योजना) in the year 2013 with the objective to fulfil the devotional desire of senior citizens of the state to visit the religious places.
  • From that year to date, Rajasthan Tirth Yatra Yojana fulfils the desire of thousands of elderly people of the state by organising visits to famous religious places for them across India.TheThe

  • Now, eligible senior citizens of Rajasthan who are 60 years or more than 60 years can travel to famous religious places within and outside India free of cost.

    • All the tour expenses will be borne by the Rajasthan Government.
    • Religious Tour includes food, travel, and accommodation expenses.
    • Travelling in AC Train Coaches.
    • Facility of Medical Staff is also available during the journey.
    • Attendant Facility is available if the applicant’s age is above 70 years.

  • Free of cost visit will be offered to only those applicants who fulfil the below-mentioned eligibility criteria of Varistha Nagrik Tirth Yatra Yojana of the Rajasthan Government :-
    • Senior Citizens of Rajasthan State are Eligible to Apply.
    • The age of the Applicant should be 60 years or more.
    • Applicant should be physically and mentally Fit.
    • Applicant should not have any Contagious/ Spreadable Disease.

Ans. For rail travel, an attendant is allowed only if the applicant is above 70 years of age and has applied alone without spouse. The attendant must be between 21 and 50 years of age and must be a relative of the applicant. No attendant is allowed in air travel.

Q. Can senior citizens above 80 years travel by aeroplane under this scheme?

Ans. No. Senior citizens aged 80 years and above are not eligible for air travel under this scheme due to unavailability of air insurance for this age group.

Q. Which religious places are covered under this scheme?

Ans. The scheme covers 15 destinations by train including Haridwar-Rishikesh-Ayodhya-Varanasi, Vaishno Devi-Amritsar, Tirupati, Rameshwaram, Jagannathpuri, and others. For air travel, Pashupatinath Temple in Kathmandu, Nepal is covered with the journey from Jaipur to Delhi by bus and Delhi to Kathmandu by aeroplane.

Q. How are beneficiaries selected under this scheme?

Ans. Selection is done through a computerised lottery draw at the district headquarters. A district-wise quota is fixed based on population ratio. A waiting list of 100% extra and an additional waiting list of 100% extra are also prepared.

Ans. No. A person who has already travelled under this scheme or whose lottery was selected but voluntarily did not travel is not eligible to apply again.
