Uttar Pradesh Chevening Atal Scholarship Scheme

The Government of Uttar Pradesh has launched the Chevening Atal Scholarship Scheme to provide fully funded opportunities for bright students to pursue a 1 year Master’s degree program at top universities in the United Kingdom. Jointly funded by the UP Government and the UK’s Chevening Program, the scheme aims to nurture future leaders by covering tuition, travel, living costs, and research expenses for 5 meritorious students annually.

Introduction of Uttar Pradesh Chevening Atal Scholarship Scheme: A Brief Insight

• Uttar Pradesh Government launched the Chevening Atal Scholarship Scheme in the State.
• The full name of this scheme is “Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee-Chevening Uttar Pradesh State Government Scholarship Scheme”, which is also known by another name, which is “Chevening Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Uttar Pradesh Rajya Sarkar Scholarship Yojana”.
• The main objective of the government behind starting this scheme is to provide global learning opportunities to bright and deserving students of the State.
• Inspired by the vision of the former Prime Minister of India, Late Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee and in collaboration with the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) and Chevening Program of the United Kingdom Government, the UP Government signed an agreement on 19th of August 2025 to nurture the future leaders, innovators and policymakers.
• Under the Chevening Atal Scholarship Scheme of the Government of Uttar Pradesh, meritorious students will get a chance to pursue their 1 year master’s degree program from the prestigious universities of the United Kingdom.
• Selected students can complete their 1-year master’s degree from top universities like the University of Oxford, the University of Cambridge, the University of Edinburgh and the London School of Economics and Political Science.
• Every year, 5 meritorious students will be selected for a scholarship under this scheme to study in the UK’s top universities.
• Master Degree Program under Chevening Atal UP Scholarship Scheme is fully funded by the Government in which 50% cost of study will be borne by the UP Government and the remaining 50% will be borne by the UK Government.
• The total cost of master’s degree program is 45 lakh to 50 lakh from which 23 lakhs will be paid by Uttar Pradesh Government and the remaining by the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office of the UK Government.
• Cheveing Atal Scholarship Scheme covers the Tuition Fees, Research Fees, Living Cost, Airfare, To and Fro Allowances, and multiple of expenses which means that no fees or charges will have to be paid by the selected students.
• Students who completed their graduation 2 years before the application date and have 2 years or 2800 hours of working experience are eligible to apply for the master’s degree course under the Chevening Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihar Vajpayee Uttar Pradesh Rajya Sarkar Scholarship Yojana.
• Initially, this scholarship scheme will be implemented for 3 years, which will be further extended after performance scrutiny.
• Uttar Pradesh Governmenthas  already allocated Rs. 2 crore for 2025-2026 for this scheme.
• Application for the year 2026-2027 of Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee-Chevening Uttar Pradesh State Government Scholarship Scheme is live and the last date to apply is 07-10-2025.

• Students can also apply for the Computer Training Scheme of the Uttar Pradesh Government, in which free skill training will be provided.

Eligibility Conditions Required to be Fulfilled

• The Benefits of a Free Scholarship for pursuing a Master’s Degree in the United Kingdom under the Chevening Atal Scholarship Scheme of the UP Government will be provided to only those beneficiaries who fulfill the below-mentioned eligibility criteria of scheme :-
  • Permanent Residents of Uttar Pradesh are Eligible.
  • A student should be Meritorious and passed his/ her Graduation.
  • Work Experience of 2 Years or 2800 Hours after Graduation is required.
  • The scheme will be operational for 3 years i.e. 2025-2026, 2026-2027, and 2027 to 2028.
  • Proficiency in English is preferable.

• Meritorious Students will be required to submit the following documents at the time of applying for the benefit of the Chevening Atal Scholarship Scheme of the Government of Uttar Pradesh :-
  • Residence Proof/ Domicile of Uttar Pradesh.

  • Recent Color Passport-Size Photo.
  • Educational Documents.
  • Certificate of Income.

• Applicant Student will have to select India and Award type as Scholarship and click on Search.
  
• A new window will appear from which the student will have to click on Apply Today.
  
• The list of Chevening Scholarships in India will appea,r from which the student has to choose the Chevening Scholarship 2026-2027 and click on submit as shown below.
  
• A Registration Form of Chevening Atal Scholarship Scheme will appear in which the applicant student will have to fill the following details :-
  • Primary Email Address.
  • Mobile Number.
  • Recovery Email Address.
• Chevening Portal will check the Eligibility Conditions by asking questions to students.
• An Email will be sent to students who passed the eligibility test of the Chevening Atal Scholarship Scheme.
• Click on Applicant Login in Email, copy the Access Code and paste it for verification.
• A detailed Online Application Form of the Atal Chevening Scholarship Scheme will appear in which the applicant student will have to fill in the details correctly as shown below :-
