Introduction of Chhattisgarh Bijli Bill Half Yojana: A Brief Insight

• Chhattisgarh Government launched the revamped version of Bijli Bill Half Yojana (छत्तीसगढ़ बिजली बिल हाफ योजना) in the state on 01-12-2025.
• The main objective behind starting this scheme is to provide relief to domestic electricity consumers of the State by providing them subsidy on the electricity bills amount.
• Chhattisgarh Government’s State Power Distribution Company Limited is the implementing agency of this scheme.
• However this scheme is not new, earlier congress led Chhattisgarh Government started this Half Bijli Bill Yojana in which 50% subsidy were provided on a monthly electricity consumption of 400 units per month.
• But now, BJP led Chhattisgarh Government changed the benefits and relaunch it again in the state.
• The Benefit of Subsidy of 50% on the amount of electricity bill will be provided under Bijli Bill Half Yojana of the Government of Chhattisgarh.
• Benefits of this scheme will only applicable when the per month electricity consumption of a consumer is up to 200 units per month.
• Each electricity consumer will now receive half electricity bill if they consumer less than 200 units of a electricity per month.
• Beneficiary Consumers who consumes 200 units to 400 units of electricity per month are also eligible to avail the benefit of half bijli bill up to 200 units but for 1 year only.
• In this 1 year, beneficiary consumer will have to install a rooftop solar plant under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana in which they receive a maximum subsidy of Rs. 78,000/- from Central Government.
• Chhattisgarh Government also announced its part of subsidy in which if any consumer install solar plant on their rooftop then they will receive an additional subsidy of Rs. 15,000/- for 1kW connnection and Rs. 30,000/- for 2kW or more.
• Chhattisgarh Government estimated that around 36 Lakh Domestic Electricity Consumers will get the benefit of Bijli Bill Half Yojana.
• Beneficiary Consumer don’t have any need to apply for or to do registration in Half Bijli Bill Yojana.
• Any consumer who consumes monthly electricity within specified limits will receive half bijli bill.

Benefits Provided to Eligible Beneficiaries

• Chhattisgarh Government under its Bijli Bill Half Yojana will provide the following benefits to all eligible electricity consumers of the State :-
  • Subsidy of 50% on Electricity Bills.
  • Benefit of Subsidy is only applicable when the electricity consumption is up to 200 units per month.
  • Consumers consuming electricity from 200 Units to 400 Units are also eligible for the benefit of half bijli bill only upto 200 units and for 1 year only.
  • But, Beneficiary Consumer will have to install the rooftop Solar Plant under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana.

Eligibility Conditions Required to be Fulfilled

• Chhattisgarh Government will provide the benefit of subsidy of 50% on the electricity bills to only those consumers who mee the following eligibility criteria of Bijli Bill Half Yojana of Chhattisgarh Government :-
  • Permanent Residents of Chhattisgarh are Eligible for Benefits.
  • Beneficiary Applicant should have a Valid Domestic Electricity Connection.
  • The Monthly Electricity Consumption of a Household should be up to 200 Units.
  • Households having electricity consumption from 200 units to 400 units per month are also eligible but up to 200 units and only for 1 year
  • Benefits of Scheme will be Applicable from 1st of December 2025.
  • Consumer should not be a Defaulter.

How Beneficiaries Can Avail the Benefit of this Scheme

• There is no need to apply directly for Bijli Bill Half Yojana of Chhattisgarh Government to avail the benefit of half electricity bill on the consumption of 200 units.
• All Domestic Electricity Consumers who consumes monthly electricity up to 200 units are automatically eligible to avail the benefit Chhattisgarh Government’s Bijli Bill Half Yojana.
• The Chhattisgarh State Power Distribution Company Limited will generate the subsidized bills on every month on the basis of a daily electricity consumption of a consumer.
• The benefit of half bijli bill is only applicable when an electricity consumer consumes the monthly electricity of 200 units per month.
• For a period of 1 year, beneficiary who consumes electricity between 200 units to 400 units are also eligible for half bijli bill upto 200 units but they have to install solar plant on their roof within a year under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana.
