Introduction of Maharashtra Divyang Shadi Protsahan Yojana: A Brief Insight

• The Maharashtra Government launched the Divyang Shadi Protsahan Yojana (महाराष्ट्र दिव्यांग विवाह प्रोत्साहन योजना) in the state on June 17, 2004.
• It is a marriage incentive scheme specifically started for the welfare of persons with disabilities.
• The main objective of the government behind launching this scheme is to provide financial support to married couples who are disabled so that they can start a new chapter of their life with ease.
• Department of Persons with Disabilities Welfare of the Maharashtra Government is the implementing department of this scheme.
• Through this initiative, the Maharashtra Government will now provide one time financial incentive for the marriage of disabled persons.
• The financial assistance of Rs. 1,50,000/- will be provided if the marriage is consummated between a disabled and a non-disabled person.
• This means when either a bride or groom is disabled, the financial assistance for marriage provided to them under Divyang Shaadi Protsahan Yojana is Rs. 1,50,000/-.
• And, when a marriage happens between two disabled persons, then the incentive amount is Rs. 2,50,000/- under the Maharashtra Government’s Disabled Marriage Incentive Scheme.
• Earlier, the amount of assistance provided under this scheme was Rs. 50,000/-.
• Financial Assistance for the marriage of the disabled is only applicable under this scheme when the disability percentage of the beneficiaries is 40% or more.
• A beneficiary married couple can apply to receive the financial incentive for marriage under this scheme within 1 year and after successful registration of marriage in the Sub-Registrar Office.
• Only first-time marriages are eligible for financial incentives under this scheme of the Maharashtra Government but there is an exemption for divorced individuals also.
• If any divorced person didn’t avail the benefit of this scheme earlier, then they are eligible to apply for financial assistance under this scheme.
• No Online Application Form or Official Portal of Divyang Shadi Protsahan Yojana is available at present.
• An application under the Divyang Marriage Incentive Scheme of the Government of Maharashtra can be submitted to the Office of the District Disability Empowerment Officer.

Benefits Provided to Eligible Beneficiaries

• Maharashtra Government, through its Divyang Shadi Protsahan Yojana will provide the following benefits to all eligible beneficiaries :-
  • Financial Assistance will be provided for the marriage of disabled persons.
  • Marriage Assistance of Rs. 1,50,000/- will be provided if either the bride or the groom is disabled.
  • Marriage Assistance of Rs. 2,50,000/- will be provided if both the bride and groom are disabled.
  • 50% of the Marriage Incentive Amount will have to be secured as a Fixed Deposit.

Eligibility Conditions Required to be Fulfilled

• Financial Assistance for Marriage will be provided to only those beneficiaries who fulfil the following eligibility criteria of Divyang Shadi Protsahan Yojana of the Government of Maharashtra :-
  • Either the bride or the groom should be a Permanent Resident of Maharashtra.
  • Either the Bride or the Groom, or both the Bride and the Groom, should be Disabled having a minimum 40% of Disability.
  • The bride and Groom should have their first marriage.
  • A divorced bride or Groom is also eligible to apply if they didn’t receive the benefits of this scheme earlier.
  • Registration of Marriage is mandatory before applying.
  • An application for Marriage Assistance can be submitted within one year of marriage.

• The documents that are required to be attached with the application form at the time of applying for financial assistance for marriage under Mthe aharashtra Government’s Divyang Shadi Protsahan Yojana are mentioned below :-
  • UDID Card or Disability Certificate.

  • Aadhaar Card of the Bride and Groom.

How Beneficiaries Can Apply to Avail the Benefit of this Scheme

• An eligible married couple who are either disabled or both are disabled can apply for marriage assistance under the Maharashtra Government’s Divyang Shadi Protsahan Yojana through an Offline Application Form.
• It is mandatory to apply for a financial incentive within 1 year of marriage.
• The Application Form of Divyang Shaadi Protsahan Yojana of the Government of Maharashtra can be collected free of cost from any one of the following offices :-
  • District Disability Empowerment Officer’s Office.
  • District Social Welfare Officer’s Office.
  • Zillah Parisha Office.
  • Assistant Commissioner Office of Social Welfare Department.
  • Mumbai Urban or Mumbai Suburban Office.
• Take the Divyang Shadi Protsahan Scheme Application Form from any of the above mentioned offices and fill it correctly without making any mistakes.
• Attach all the required documents such as Aadhar Card, UDID Card or Disability Certificate, Copy of Join Bank Account Passbook, Domicile Certificate and Marriage Registration.
• Submit the duly filled application form along with all the attached documents to the Office of the District Disability Empowerment Officer.
• The initial verification of the received application form of financial incentive for marriage will be verified by the DDEO.
• The list of eligible beneficiaries will then be forwarded to the selection committee for further verification and disbursement of the amount of marriage assistance.
• Finally selected married couple will then receive the marriage assistance amount directly in their joint account as promised by Maharasthra Government under its Marriage Incentive Scheme for Disableds.
