Introduction of Gujarat Vahli Dikri Scheme: A Brief Insight

Government of Gujarat is well known for its welfare scheme for the well-being of the people of Gujarat.
Lots of Government Welfare Schemes is presently running in the State, which have benefited every section of society.
The one vulnerable section that needs a lot of care and attention is the Girl Child.
Right from birth, girls face a lot of problems like school dropouts, early age marriage, etc.
There is a need for special care and attention to improve their condition and encourage them to complete their basic education before marriage.
To make sure this will happen, the Government of Gujarat started a major welfare scheme for the girl child of the State named “Vahli Dikri Scheme”.
Vahli Dikri Scheme in Gujarat was started on August 8^th, 2019.
This Scheme is also called Vhali Dikri Scheme or Vahli Dikri Scheme.
Gujarat Government’s Department of Women & Child Development will be the implementing department of this scheme.
The main objective of Vahli Dikri Scheme is :-
- To reduce the Girl Infant Mortality Rate.
- To decrease the School dropout rate of Girl Students.
- To encourage the Girl Child to pursue her higher education.
- To help the Girl Child bear the expenses of her Marriage.
Financial Assistance of Rs. 1,10,000/- (One Lakh Ten Thousand Rupees Only) will be provided to the Girl Child under Vahli Dikri Scheme.
This financial assistance to girl child will be provided in 3 phases.
In Phase 1, Rs. 4,000/- (Four Thousand Rupees Only) will be credited into the account of the beneficiary when the girl child takes admission in Class 1^st.
In Phase 2, Rs. 6,000/- (Six Thousand Rupees Only) will be given to girl child when she take admission in Class 6^th.
And in the final Phase 3, Rs. 1,00,000/- (One Lakh Rupees Only) will be provided to Girl Child when she attain the age of 18 years.
It is up to the girl child whether she spends the Phase 3 amount of Rs. 1,00,000/- (One Lakh Rupees Only) on her Higher Education or spends it on her marriage expenses if she is going to get married.
Girl Child should be unmarried at the time of claiming the amount of Rs. 1,00,000/- (One Lakh Rupees Only) in Phase 3.
If the Annual Family Income of Girl Child from all the sources is more than Rs. 2,00,000/- (Two Lakh Rupees Only) then she is not eligible to apply.
Eligible families can only avail the financial assistance under the Vahli Dikri Scheme for 2 Living Girl children.
If the Girl Child passed away before attaining the age of 18 years, then no financial assistance will be provided to the aggrieved family.
Beneficiaries can avail the financial assistance under Vahli Dikri Yojana by applying through the Application Form of Vahli Dikri Scheme.
Gujarat Government also runs a welfare scheme for school-going girls named “Namo Lakshmi Yojana”.
In case of any help or assistance required for the Vahli Dikri Scheme, then the beneficiary can contact their nearest Women and Child Development District Office.
Mother of girl beneficiary can also go through the “Mukhyamantri Matrushakti Yojana” of the Gujarat Government and “Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana” of the Central Government.

Benefits Provided to Eligible Beneficiaries

The following Monetary Assistance in 3 Phases will be provided to the Mother on behalf of her Girl Child under the Gujarat Government’s Vahli Dikri Scheme :-

Amount of Assistance	Phase of Assistance
Rs. 4,000/-	When a Girl Take Admission in Class 1^st
Rs. 6,000/-	When a Girl Take Admission in Class 9^th
Rs. 1,00,000/-	When a Girl attains the Age of 18 Years and wants to Pursue Higher Studies or wants to Get Married.

Eligibility Conditions Required to be Fulfilled

Government of Gujarat sets the following eligibility criteria for beneficiaries, and the benefits of the Vahli Dikri Scheme will only be provided to those who fulfill it :-

Applicant/ Girl Child should be a Permanent Resident of Gujarat.
The Birth of a Girl Child should not be before 02/08/2019.
Annual Family Income of a Girl Child should not be more than Rs. 2,00,000/-
Two Girl Child per Family can avail the Benefit of Gujarat Vhli Dikri Scheme.

The following documents will be required to be attached with the application form at the time of applying for financial assistance under Vahli Dikri Scheme :-

Application Form of Gujarat Vahli Dikri Yojana.
Affidavit of Gujarat Vahli Dikri Yojana.
Any of the Residence Proof of Gujarat :-
- Domicile/ Permanent Resident Certificate of Gujarat.
- Voter Identity Card.
Passport Size Photograph of Mother and Girl Child.
Aadhar Card of Girl Child.
Aadhar Card of Girl Child Mother.
Aadhar Card of Girl Child Father.
Ration Card.
Family Income Certificate.
Birth Certificate of Girl Child.
Copy of Bank Passbook First Page.
Caste Certificate of Applicant.

How Beneficiaries Can Apply to Avail the Benefit of this Scheme

Eligible Beneficiaries can apply for the Vahli Dikri Scheme through the Application Form.
Application Form of Vahli Dikri Scheme will be collected free of cost from any of the below-mentioned offices :-
- Gram Panchayat Office.
- Block Development Office.
- Anganwadi Kendra.
- Women & Child Development Office.
Fill in the personal details, contact details, and bank account details correctly in the Application Form.
Attach all the required documents with the application form.
Submit the Application Form attached with all the documents in the same office from which the application form of Vahli Dikri Yojana was collected.
Concerned officials will verify the application form and documents of the beneficiary.
Then, a list of eligible and ineligible beneficiaries will be made, and an SMS on their registered mobile number will be sent.
Eligible beneficiaries will get financial assistance in their given bank account once the application is finally approved by the office of the Department of Women & Child Development.
There is no Online Application Process or Website for the Vahli Dikri Scheme of the Gujarat Government is available.
Application Status of the Vahli Dikri Scheme of the Government of Gujarat can be checked by visiting the District Office of the Women and Child Development Department.

Conclusion of the Scheme

Great initiative by the Gujarat Government in which financial and social security will be provided to newborn infant girls. Vahli Dikri Scheme covers all the expenses from the birth of girl child to till she attains the age of 18 years.
