Introduction of Andhra Pradesh Garuda Scheme: A Brief Insight
- BC and EWS Welfare Minister S. Savita while speaking in the meeting with Andhra Pradesh Brahmin Corporation Officials announced to relaunch the Garuda Scheme in the State.
- Garuda Scheme was operational from 2014 to 2019, when there was a Telugu Desam Party led Government in Andhra Pradesh.
- But later, it was discontinued by the YS Jagan Mohan Reddy-led government.
- Now, Andhra Pradesh is planning to relaunch the Garuda Scheme for the welfare of poor Brahmin Families and the detailed guidelines are being finalised to implement this scheme.
- The main objective of the Andhra Pradesh Government behind relaunching the Garuda Scheme in the state is to support the poor and grieving families belonging to the Brahmin Community in case of loss of a family member.
- Brahmin Welfare Corporation of the Government of Andhra Pradesh is the implementing body of this scheme.
- Financial Assistance will be provided to each grieving family from the poor Brahmin Community who lost a family member and where the family has no other means to meet the funeral expenses.
- Rs. 10,000/- funeral expenses assistance will be provided to each eligible family under the Garuda Scheme for Funeral Expenses (GS-FE) of the Andhra Pradesh Government.
- This scheme is specifically for those Brahmin Families who are poor and can’t in a condition to arrange the funeral expenses.
- Spouse, Son, Daughter, Parents, Brother or Grandson of the deceased Brahmin are eligible to apply for funeral expenses assistance under the Garuda Scheme.
- If the annual family income of any applicant is more than Rs. 75,000/- per year then they are not eligible to apply for funeral assistance under this scheme.
- It is mandatory to apply for funeral expenses reimbursement under the Garuda Scheme within 45 days of the death of a family member.
- In the upcoming days, the Andhra Pradesh Government will relaunch the Garuda Scheme for Funeral Expenses in the state.
- The Garuda Scheme Online Application Form will then be available online on Brahmin Welfare Corporation Website.
- Female Members of the Poor Brahmin Family can also travel free of cost in buses under “Stree Shakti Scheme” and can also apply for “Aadabidda Nidhi Scheme” in which monthly financial assistance will be provided to eligible women.

Benefits Provided to Eligible Beneficiaries
- Andhra Pradesh Government will provide the following benefits under its Garuda Scheme to Brahmin families who lost a family member :-
- Financial Assistance for the funeral will be decided upon the demise of a Brahmin Family Member.
- One Time Assistance of Rs. 10,000/- will be provided to a close relative of the deceased Brahmin.
Eligibility Conditions Required to be Fulfilled
- The financial assistance of Rs. 10,000/- for funeral expenses will be provided to only those beneficiaries who fulfil the below mentioned eligibility criteria of Andhra Pradesh Government’s Garuda Scheme :-
- Permanent Resident Applicant Brahmin Community of Andhra Pradesh is Eligible to Apply.
- The applicant should be a close relative of the deceased Brahmin.
- The Annual Family Income of an Applicant’s Close Relative should not be more than Rs. 75,000/- per year.
- The applicant will have to submit the application within 45 days of the death.

- The following documents will be required at the time of applying for financial assistance for funeral expenses under Garuda Scheme of the Andhra Pradesh Government :-

How Beneficiaries Can Apply to Avail the Benefit of this Scheme
- Andhra Pradesh Government is planning to relaunch the Garuda Scheme in the State very soon.
- It was earlier operational from 2014 to 2019 at the time the TDP led the Andhra Pradesh Government.
- At that time, beneficiary applicants can apply online for financial assistance for a funeral under the Garuda Scheme.
- The Online Application Form of the Garuda Scheme is going to be available on Andhra Pradesh Brahmin Welfare Corporation Website.
- Eligible Applicants will have to visit the website after the official launch of the scheme.
- Select Registration from the Scheme Corner and fill out the Government of Andhra Pradesh’s Garuda Scheme Online Application Form.
- Fill in all the details in the form and upload all the required documents on the portal.
- Review the filled information and click on the submit button to submit the online application form.
- Portal will generate the reference number after successful submission of the Garuda Scheme Online Application which can be used to check the application status.
- Download the Acknowledgement Slip for future reference.
- The submitted application form and document will be verified by the Officials of the Brahmin Welfare Corporation of the Andhra Pradesh Government.
- The data entered by the applicant will be validated with the data of MeeSeva, Praja Sadhikara Survey and Civil Supplies Department.
- Selected Applicants will then receive the financial assistance of Rs. 10,000/- as funeral expenses from the Andhra Pradesh Government under the Garuda Scheme for Funeral Expenses.
