Introduction of Assam Mukhyamantri Mahila Udyamita Abhiyan: A Brief Insight

  • Assam Government cabinet gave its approval to start Mukhyamantri Udaymita Abhiyan in the State on 07-01-2024.
  • The main objective of the Government behind starting this scheme is to empower SHG members to become entrepreneurs and upgrade their socioeconomic status and their living conditions.
  • Mukhyamantri Mahila Udyamita Abhiyan is implemented by the Panchayat & Rural Development Department of the Assam Government with the help of the Assam Rural Livelihood Mission. (ASRLM)
  • This scheme will ensure that every woman, as a small entrepreneur, will have a minimum annual income of Rs. 1,00,000/- per year.

  • Women members of registered Self Help Groups who are interested in doing business activity for self-employment are eligible to avail the benefit of Mukhyamantri Mahila Udyamita Abhiyan.
  • Through this scheme, women beneficiaries will get Rs. 85,000/- in 3 3-year periods to set up self-employment business activity.
  • Government of Assam sets unique eligibility conditions of applicants, in which if any woman member belongs to the General or OBC Category and has more than 3 Childre,n then she is not eligible under this scheme.
  • And women applicants who belong to Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe, Moran, Matak, or Tea Garden Community have more than 4 children, then she is not eligible to apply for Mukhyamantri Mahila Udyamita Abhiyaan.

Benefits Provided to Eligible Beneficiaries

  • Women Members of Self Help Groups (SHGs) will get the following benefits from the  Assam Government under Mukhyamantri Mahila Udyamita Abhiyan :-
    • Seed Capital for Business will be Provided.
    • Rs. 10,000/- Seed Capital will be provided to the Women Beneficiary for her Business.
    • Loan of Rs. 25,000/- for Business over the next 2 years.
    • 50% of the Loan (Rs. 12,500/-) is a  Government Subsidy and 50% (Rs. 12,500/-) will be returned to Bank.
    • Financial Assistance of RS. 50,000/- in 3rd year.
    • Subsidy provided by the Government is Non-Refundable and no need to return.
    • A total of Rs. 85,000/- in 3 years will be provided to women beneficiaries to support them to start their own business activity.

Eligibility Conditions Required to be Fulfilled

  • Seed Capital of Rs. 10,000/- for Business and a Subsidized Loan of Rs. 25,000/- and financial assistance of Rs. 50,000/- in the 3rd year will only be provided to those women beneficiaries who fulfill the below-mentioned eligibility criteria of Mukhyamantri Mahila Udyamita Abhiyan of Assam Government :-
    • Only Permanent Resident Women of Assam are Eligible.
    • Women beneficiaries should be Active members of the Self Help Group. (SHGs)
    • Self-help groups should be registered with the Assam State Rural Livelihood Mission.
    • Beneficiary Women should not be defaulters of SHG or any bank or financial institution.
    • Women Applicants should have a  Business Plan to start their own income-generation activity.
    • Women Applicants should not have more than 3 Children. (For General and OBC Category Applicant)
    • Women Applicants should not have more than 4 Children. (For SC/S ST/ Moran/ Matak/ Tea Tribe Category Applicant)
    • If a woman beneficiary has Girl, then she must be admitted in School.
    • Women Beneficiaries should have planted a tree sapling during Amrit Brikshya Andolan and the tree sapling should be surviving.
