Benefits of Student Credit Card Yojana Bihar

Introduction of Student Credit Card Yojana: A Brief Insight

Every year, thousands of students in Bihar complete Class 12 with dreams of becoming engineers, doctors, lawyers, teachers, and other professionals. However, many are unable to continue their higher education because their families cannot afford college fees and other educational expenses. To help such students, the Government of Bihar launched the Student Credit Card Yojana on 2 October 2016 under its 7 Nishchay programme, “Aarthik Hal, Yuvaon Ko Bal.”

Under this scheme, eligible students can get an education loan of up to Rs. 4 lakh to pursue approved higher education courses. The loan carries a simple interest rate of 4% for general category students and only 1% for women, differently abled, and transgender applicants. Since the Government of Bihar acts as the guarantor, students do not need to provide collateral security or a third-party guarantee.

The loan can be used to cover tuition fees, hostel charges, books, study materials, laptops, examination fees, and other approved educational expenses. Repayment starts after the moratorium period prescribed under the scheme, allowing students to complete their education before beginning loan repayment.

Students who are up to 25 years of age and have passed Class 12 or an equivalent examination from a recognised institution in Bihar or a notified border state can apply, subject to the scheme guidelines. The scheme currently covers 42 approved higher education courses, including MBBS, BTech, MBA, LLB, Nursing, Pharmacy, Polytechnic, BA, BSc, BCom, and several other professional and academic programmes.

The application process is completely online through the 7 Nishchay Yuva Upmission Portal. After submitting the online application, students must visit their nearest District Registration and Counselling Centre (DRCC) with the required documents for verification before the loan is processed.

Students can also explore other government initiatives that support education, skill development, and employment. Those looking for internship opportunities after graduation can check the Pradhan Mantri Internship Yojana.
