Introduction of Chhattisgarh Saraswati Cycle Yojana: A Brief Insight
- Chhattisgarh Government started the Saraswati Cycle Yojana in the year 2004.
- The main objective of the government behind starting this scheme is to reduce the school dropout rate among girls’ students and encourage them to complete their basic education.
- Saraswati Cycle Yojana will also fill the gap between a girl student’s house to her school,l and she can easily accommodate her travel without thinking about the distance.
- This scheme is implemented by School Education Department of Chhattisgarh Government.
- This scheme was stopped by the previous government but the BJP-led Chhattisgarh Government announced to start this scheme again in the State.
- The government will provide free of cost bicycles to class 9th girls students who are currently studying in government schools or government-aided private schools.
- These cycles will be provided completely free of cost, no charges will be charged from beneficiary girl students.
- But free cycles under the Saraswati Cycle Scheme of the Chhattisgarh Government will not be provided to all girl students of Class 9th.
- Girl Students belonging to the SC, ST, OBC, and BPL categories are only eligible to get free-of-cost cycles under the Saraswati Free Cycle Yojana.
- School Education Department observes that the attendance of girl students has increased to 93% after implementing this scheme.
- Girl Students don’t have to apply for this scheme to get free-of-cost cycles.
- School Principal or Nodal Officer will forward the list of eligible girl students to the School Education Department.
- Free of Cost Cycles will be distributed among girl students in public gatherings or through their respective schools under the Chhattisgarh Government’s Saraswati Cycle Yojana.

- Chhattisgarh Government will provide the below-mentioned benefits to girl students of class 9th under its Saraswati Cycle Yojana :-
- Free of Cost Cycle will be provided.
- Each Girl Student of Class 9th will get a Bicycle without any cost.
Eligibility Conditions Required to be Fulfilled
- Free of Cost Cycle under Chhattisgarh Government’s Saraswati Cycle Yojana will only be provided to those beneficiary students who fulfill the below-mentioned eligibility criteria of scheme :-
- Permanent Resident Class 9th Girl Students of Chhattisgarh are Eligible.
- Girls students should be studying in a Government or government-aided private school.
- Girl Student should belong to any of the below-mentioned social category :-
- Scheduled Caste.
- Scheduled Tribe.
- Other Backward Class.
- BPL Families.
Documents Required to be Attached
- Girl Students will have to submit the following documents as per their social category in their school to get a free-of-cost cycle under the Saraswati Cycle Yojana of the Chhattisgarh Government :-
- Below Poverty Line Ration Card.
- Schedule Caste/ Tribe/ OBC Certificate.
- Mobile Number.
- Girl Student Aadhaar Card.
- Parents’ Aadhaar Card.
How Beneficiaries Can Apply to Avail the Benefit of this Scheme
- Government of Chhattisgarh didn’t provide the facility to girl students to apply themselves to get a free cycle under the Saraswati Cycle Yojana.
- Application for Saraswati Cycle Yojana will be made by the Principal or Nodal Officer of the respective school in which the girl student is currently studying.
- Beneficiary Girl Student will have to submit the Caste/ Category Certificate to her school.
- School Principal or Nodal Officer will shortlist the eligible girls according to the social category to which girl student belongs.
- List of shortlisted girl students will be forwarded to the School Education Department of the Chhattisgarh Government for further approval.
- School Education Department will further verify the received list of girl students and give its final approval for the disbursement of free cycles to selected girl students.
- Shortlisted Class 9th Girl Students will get a free cycle under the Saraswati Cycle Yojana of the Chhattisgarh Government at a public function or at their school.
- Chhattisgarh Saraswati Cycle Yojana Online Registration is not available.
- Contact your school principal or District Education Officer (DEO) in case of any assistance or help required regarding the Saraswati Free Cycle Scheme of the Chhattisgarh Government.
