Introduction of Gruha Arogya Scheme: A Brief Insight
- Karnataka Government started Gruha Arogya Scheme on 24th of October 2024.
- The main objective behind starting this scheme is to detect non-communicable disease early among youngsters.
- Health and Family Welfare Department of Karnataka Government is the implementing department of this scheme.
- Whereas, the Gruha Arogya Scheme of Karnataka is fully funded by National Health Mission.
- The other major well-known names of this scheme are “Gruha Arogya Yojana” or “Griha Arogya Scheme.”
- Door to Door Screening and Testing for 6 major Non Communicable Diseases (NCDs) will be done by Health Care Workers under Gruha Arogya Scheme.
- People aged 30 years or above are eligible under Gruha Arogya Scheme of Karnataka Government to take free of cost test for non communicable diseases.
- Testing Health Care Workers includes trained Taluka Medical Officers, Primary Health Care Officer and Community Health Officer along with other supportive staff equipped with advanced medical equipments.
- Screening/ Preliminary Checks for Cancer will also done in the test which comprises timely assessment of Oral, Breast and Cervical Cancer.
- If found positive then patient will get treatment in Ayushman Arogya Mandirs.
- Free Medicines to Diabetes and Blood Pressure Patients will also provided under Gruha Arogya Scheme.
- Apart from that Health Care Workers will also provide personalized counselling and health education on Alcohol and Smoking Addiction, Sleep Arnea and BMI Imbalances.
- Under Gruha Arogya Scheme, each team of Health and Welfare Centre will visit 20 homes each on Monday, Wednesday and Friday in every weak for 16 weeks.
- For smooth implementation of Gruha Arogya Scheme in Karnataka, State Government allocated Rs. 69.15 Crore and 15th Finance Commission allocated Rs. 13.27 Crore for the procurement of medicinal and testing equipments.
- This scheme will implemented in whole of Karnataka in phased manner in which 8 Districts will be covered in First Phase.
- Testing and Screening under Gruha Arogya Scheme will going to be started from January 2025.
- Eligible Beneficiaries will have to wait in order to avail the benefits of free of cost testing and screening of diseases under Gruha Arogya Scheme.

Benefits Provided to Eligible Women Beneficiaries
- The government of Karnataka will provide the following benefits to all eligible beneficiaries under its new Gruha Arogya Scheme :-
- Free Screening/ Testing for 6 Non-Communicable Diseases. (NCDs)
- Health Care Workers will visit Door to Door to collect samples.
- Checks for Hypertension and Diabetes will also covered under this scheme.
- Preliminary Checks for Cervical, Oral, Mouth and Breast Cancer.
- Free Medicines will be provided to BP and Diabetes Patients.
- Counselling will also provided for Smoking/ Alcohol Addiction, BMI Imbalance and Sleep Apnea.
Diseases Covered under Gruha Arogya Scheme
- Following Non-Communicable Diseases will be covered under the Gruha Arogya Scheme of the Karnataka Government :-

- Diabetes.
- Cervical Cancer.

Eligibility Conditions Required to be Fulfilled
- Only those people are eligible to get tested free of cost for non-communicable diseases who fulfil the following eligibility conditions of Gruha Arogya Scheme :-
- The beneficiary should be a Permanent Resident of Karnataka.
- The Age of Beneficiary should be 30 Years or more than 30 Years.
- Beneficiary should have Valid Identity Proof of Residence.
Documents Required to be Attached
- Beneficiary has to show his/her Aadhar Card to Health Care Workers for Registration under Gruha Arogya Scheme of Karnataka.
How Beneficiaries Can Avail the Benefit of this Scheme
- There is no need to apply separately for the Karnataka Government’s Gruha Arogya Scheme.
- Every permanent resident of Karnataka aged 30 years and above is automatically eligible to avail the benefit of this scheme.
- Trained Medical Officers like Taluka Medical Officer, Community Health Officer, Primary Health Care Officer will visit door to door in every house of beneficiaries om Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
- Health Workers of Government will conduct screening and testing under Gruha Arogya Scheme for 6 Non-Communicable Diseases.
- Concerned Health Workers will be well-equipped at time of testing and all protocols of safety will be followed by them.
- Taken sample will then send to the laboratory for testing.
- If there will be a possibility of cancer or any other disease then the patient willbe referred to nearest community health centre for treatment.
- And if there is suspected case then telecosultation will be provided to beneficiary for three months.
- Diabetes and Blood Pressure Patient will recieve free of cost medicines under Gruha Arogya Scheme of Karnataka Government.
- From January onwards, all eligible beneficiaries will be visited by health care workers for screening and testing of non communicable diseases under Gruha Arogya Scheme.
