Introduction of Kerala Maargadeepam Scheme: A Brief Insight
- Central Government provided pre-matric scholarships to Class 1st to Class 8th Students through the Ministry of Minority Affairs.
- However, in the year 2022-2023, the Central Government stopped the scholarship for Class 1st to Class 8th Students and made it available for Class 9th and Class 10th Students only.
- This can hit the students of minority communities who are financially not well.
- Seeing this type of things, Kerala Government decided to start their own pre-matric scholarship for the students of Class 1st to Class 8th.
- The name of the Scheme is “Maargadeepam Scheme” which was launched by the Government of Kerala in the year 2024.
- The main aim behind starting this scholarship scheme in the state is to ensure that students who belongs to minority community will get every possible support to continue their studies.
- Directorate of Minority Welfare is the implementing department of this scheme.
- Scholarship will be provided to all eligible students belonging to a minority community under this scheme.
- Each student currently studying in Class 1st to Class 8th will get a scholarship of Rs. 1,500/- under the Maargadeepam Scheme.
- This scheme is specifically started for minority category students so Class 1st to Class 8th Students belonging to Muslim, Sikh, Parsis, Jain, Buddhist, and Christian religions are only eligible to get a scholarship of Rs. 1,500/- under this Scheme.
- Scholarships are only applicable if the student is currently studying in Government or government-aided schools within Kerala.
- And if the annual family income of any student is more than Rs. 1 Lakh per year then they are not eligible for scholarship under this scheme.
- This scheme has some popular and famous names also which are “Margadeepam Scheme Kerala”, “Maargadeepam Padhati Kerala”, or “Maargadeepam Scholarship Scheme Kerala”, or “Maargadeepam Scholarship Padhati Kerala”.
- There is no directly facility available for students to apply for Maargadeepam Scheme of Kerala.
- The head of concerned schools will distribute the application forms among students and collect them with duly filled and attached with all required documents.
- Contact the Directorate of Minority Welfare in case of any help required for the this Scheme.
- Concerned Schools can enroll all eligible students until 12-03-2025 under this scheme.
Benefits Provided to Eligible Beneficiaries
- Minority Students of Kerala who are currently studying in Class 1st to Class 8th will get the following benefits from Government under the Maargadeepam Scheme :-
- Financial Assistance as a Scholarship will be Provided.
- Students will get Rs. 1,500/- Scholarship under the Maargadeepam Scheme.
Eligibility Conditions Required to be Fulfilled
- Scholarship of Rs. 1500/- under the Maargadeepam Scheme of the Kerala Government will only provided to those students who fulfill the following eligibility criteria of scheme :-
- Students currently studying from Class 1st to Class 8th are Eligible.
- Only Permanent Resident Students of Kerala will get Scholarships.
- Students should be studying in Government or Government Aided Schools.
- Family Annual Income of the Student should not be more than Rs. 1,00,000/- per year.
- Student should be belong to Minority Community.
Documents Required to be Attached
- Eligible Students will have to submit the below-mentioned documents in their concerned schools in order to avail the benefit of scholarship under the Maargadeepam Scheme of Kerala Government :-
- Certificate of Family Annual Income.
- Minority Certificate.
- Caste Certificate. (If Applicable)
- Bank Account Number with IFSC Code.
- Family Ration Card.
- Student Aadhaar Card.
- Certificate of Disability. (If Applicable)
- Certificate of Extra Curricular Activities. (If Applicable)
- Death Certificate of Parents. (If Applicable)
- Color passport-size photo of Student.
- Mobile Number.
How Beneficiaries Can Apply to Avail the Benefit of this Scheme
- Minority Students cannot directly apply for the Maargadeepam Scheme of the Kerala Government in order to get the scholarship.
- Head of Schools are responsible for enrolling every eligible student under the Maargadeepam Scheme.
- Head of School will have to download the Maargadeepam Scheme Application Form from its Official Website and distribute it among students.
- Students will have to fill out the application form without making any mistake and attach all the required documents mentioned on it.
- Submit the Application Form along with all the documents to in the Office of the Head of School.
- Head of School will then Add a Student/ Enroll a Student in the Maargadeepam Scheme by logging in on the Official Website with the help of a Username and Password.
- After enrolling every eligible student in this scheme for a scholarship, the head of the school will then have to submit all the applications to the Directorate of Minority Welfare of the Kerala Government.
- Directorate Officials will then verify the received application forms and documents and make a list of eligible minority students for disbursement of scholarships.
- Students Selected under the Maargadeepam Scheme will get a scholarship of Rs. 1,500/- directly in their bank account.

- Maargadeepam Scheme Application Status can be checked by students with the help of their Aadhaar Card Number.
