Introduction of Punjab Mukh Mantri Mawan Dheeyan Satkar Yojna: A Brief Insight
The Mukh Mantri Mawan Dheeyan Satkar Yojana (मुख्यमंत्री मावां धीयां सत्कार योजना) is a major women’s welfare initiative announced by the Government of Punjab. The government announced this scheme on 8 March 2026, while presenting the state budget in the Legislative Assembly on the occasion of International Women’s Day, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.
The main aim of this scheme is to provide direct financial support to women and strengthen their economic independence. The Department of Social Security and Women & Child Development of the Punjab Government will implement this scheme across the entire state.
Through the Mukh Mantri Mawan Dheeyan Satkar Yojana, the Punjab Government provides monthly financial assistance to every eligible woman in the state. Each eligible woman receives Rs. 1,000/- per month directly in her bank account. Women belonging to the Scheduled Caste (SC) category receive Rs. 1,500 per month. The government designed this scheme to help women manage household expenses, improve their financial security, and strengthen their role in family decision-making.
The Punjab Government has kept the eligibility rules simple so that most women in the state can benefit. Permanent resident women of Punjab who are above 18 years of age can apply under this scheme. Women who already receive benefits under social security schemes such as the Old Age Pension Scheme, Widow or Destitute Women Pension Scheme, and Disability Pension Scheme will also remain eligible to receive assistance under this scheme. However, existing or retired government employees, current or former MPs/MLAs, and income tax payers will not be eligible.
The Punjab Government plans to implement this scheme on a large scale, and officials expect that around 97% of adult women in the state will become eligible for financial assistance. To support this initiative, the government will allocate a significant budget of Rs. 9,300 crore in the state finances. Registration is expected to start from 13 April 2026, on the occasion of Baisakhi, through Anganwadi Centres and Sewa Kendras across the state.
In simple terms, the Mukh Mantri Mawan Dheeyan Satkar Yojana aims to support women financially, encourage their independence, and improve the overall social and economic status of women across Punjab.
