50% Subsidy of Monthly Electricity Bills will be provided by the Government of Uttarakhand under the Electricity Subsidy Scheme. For the Himalayan Region, the maximum usage limit is 200 units per month and for another region this limit is 100 units per month.

Introduction of Electricity Subsidy Scheme Uttarakhand: A Brief Insight

• Chief Minister of Uttarakhand Shri Pushkar Singh Dhami had announced on their birthday on 16th September to start the “Electricity Subsidy Scheme” in Uttarakhand.
• Till date, this scheme provides relief in electricity bills to all beneficiaries from the Himalayan region to the Plain region.
• The main aim behind starting this scheme is to provide support to people by providing them subsidy on their monthly electricity bills so that they can save more.
• The government’s Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited is the implementing agency of this scheme.
• A subsidy of 50% on monthly electricity bills will be provided to all eligible beneficiaries under the Electricity Subsidy Scheme of the Uttarakhand Government.
• The government has divided the beneficiaries in the Himalayan Region and Other Regions in which there is different maximum electricity usage limits for both of them.
• The maximum consumption limit for Himalayan Region Beneficiaries on which a subsidy of 50% is payable is 200 units per month.
• Whereas, for other region beneficiaries the maximum consumption limit on which a subsidy of 50% is payable is 100 units per month.
• This means beneficiaries will have to pay only half the electricity bill if they consume a maximum 200 units of electricity per month in the Himalayan region and a maximum 100 units of electricity per month in other regions.
• Subsidy on Electricity under Electric Subsidy Scheme of Uttarakhand Government will only provided on maximum 1KW Domestic Connection.
• Government estimated that more than 11 lakh electricity consumers of Uttarakhand will get the benefit of this scheme.
• Now, Government of Uttarakhand announced to continue this scheme while announcing annual budget for the year 2025-2026.
• In order to avail the benefit of 50% subsidy on electricity bills under Ethe lectricity Subsidy Scheme, there is no need to apply separately or fill any offline or online application form.
• UPCL will generate and issue subsidized bills to eligible consumers as per their monthly electricity consumption.
• The other substitute names of this scheme are “Electricity Subsidy Yojana Uttarakhand” or ”
  उत्तराखंड बिजली सब्सिडी योजना”.

Benefits Provided to Eligible Beneficiaries

• Every Eligible Beneficiary will get the below-mentioned benefits under Uttarakhand Government’s Electricity Subsidy Scheme :-
  • Government will provide Subsidy on the Consumption of Electricity.
  • Subsidy of 50% will be applicable on the Monthly Electricity Bill.
  • Himalayan Region Beneficiary will get 50% Subsidy on a Maximum 200 Units per Month of Electricity Consumption.
  • Other Region Beneficiary will get 50% Subsidy on a Maximum 100 Units per Month of Electricity Consumption.

Eligibility Conditions Required to be Fulfilled

• Government of Uttarakhand will provide the benefit of subsidy on electricity bills to only those eligible beneficiaries who fulfill the below mentioned eligibility criteria of Electricity Subsidy Scheme of the Government of Uttarakhand :-
  • Only Uttarakhand Residents are Eligible to get Subsidies on Electricity Bills.
  • Households should have a Maximum of 1 KW of Domestic Electricity Connection.
  • Maximum Electricity Consumption inthe  Himalayan Region should be 200 Units per Month.
  • Maximum Electricity Consumption in Other Region should be 100 Units per Month.

Documents Required to be Attached

• In order to avail the benefit of 50% subsidy on electricity bills under the Electricity Subsidy Scheme of the Uttarakhand Government, the following documents will be required :-
  • Current Domestic Electricity Bill.
  • Beneficiary Aadhaar Card.
  • Mobile Number.

How Beneficiaries Can Avail the Benefit of this Scheme

• There is no need to apply separately to get an electricity subsidy of 50% on monthly bills under the Government of Uttarakhand’s Electricity Subsidy Scheme.
• Beneficiaries of the Himalayan Region and Other Region will automatically get subsidy on their monthly electricity bills if they consume electricity under mthe aximum limit.
• Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited will issue subsidized bills to beneficiaries according to their monthly electricity consumption.
• Beneficiaries of the Himalayan Region will get subsidized bills if they consume up to 200 units per month of electricity.
• Whereas, beneficiaries of other region will get subsidized bills from UPCL if they consume maximum 100 units of electricity per month.
• Government of Uttarakhand will reimburse the subsidy amount to UPCL to compensate.
