Introduction of West Bengal Chaa Sundari Housing Scheme: A Brief Insight

• Government of West Bengal launched the Chaa Sundari Housing Scheme on 17-09-2020.
• The main aim behind starting this housing scheme is to support the Tea Garden Workers of West Bengal by providing them with shelters.
• Many Tea Garden Workers of West Bengal belong to the Schedule Tribe Community and don’t have their own permanent home.
• They reside in their temporary living structures which makes their and their children hard to live.
• Due to financial hardship and very poor economic conditions, they are not in a condition to build their own house.
• Keeping all these things in mind,the  West Bengal Government started a separate housing scheme named “Chaa Sundari Housing Scheme” or well known as “Chaa Sundari Scheme” or “Chaa Sundari Prakalpa” for houseless Tea Garden Workers.
• Government’s Housing Department is the responsible department which are implementing this scheme in the State.
• Free of Cost Houses will now be provided to all eligible Tea Garden Workers of West Bengal under the Chaa Sundari Housing Scheme.
• Houses provided under the Chaa Sundari Scheme are well constructed and will be provided to all houseless and poor Tea Garden Workers of West Bengal State.
• Each house will be constructed on a plinth area of 394 Sq. Ft and the total expenses borne by the Government to build each of these houses will be Rs. 5,43,000/-.
• Every house will consist of 2 Bedrooms, 1 Verandah, 1 Kitchen and 1 Bathroom.
• It is estimated that around 3,00,000/- Tea Garden Workers of 370 Tea Gardens will get free-of-cost constructed houses under the Chaa Sundari Housing Scheme of the West Bengal Government.
• The things which is to be noted that only Tea Garden Workers belonging to the Schedule Tribe Community are only eligible to apply for houses under this scheme.
• Application Forms of Chaa Sundari Housing Scheme are available at any District Office of the Department of Housing of the West Bengal Government.
• The other welfare scheme for tea garden workers is “Chaa Sundari Extension Scheme” in which financial assistance of Rs. 1,20,000/- to construct a house will be provided by the West Bengal Government.
• Beneficiary Tea Garden Worker can also check the Chaa Sundari Housing Scheme Application Status by visiting the office after applying.
• Female Workers of the Tea Garden can also apply for “Lakshmir Bhandar Scheme” of the West Bengal Government, in which monthly financial assistance will be provided.

Benefits Provided to Eligible Beneficiaries

• The government of West Bengal will provide the following benefits to all eligible Tea Garden Workers under the Chaa Sundari Housing Scheme :-
  

  Constructed Houses without any Cost will be provided to each Beneficiary. The Area of the Constructed House will be 394 Sq. Ft. The Cost of the Constructed House will be Rs. 5,43,000/-. Houses Provided to Beneficiaries will have :- 1 Kitchen. 1 Verandah. 1Toilet. 2 Rooms.

Eligibility Conditions Required to be Fulfilled

• Free of Cost Houses under the Chaa Sundari Housing Scheme of the West Bengal Government will be provided to only those beneficiaries who fulfil the following eligibility criteria of scheme :-
  • Only Residents of West Bengal are Eligible to Apply.
  • Beneficiaries should be Permanent Tea Garden Workers of West Bengal.
  • Houseless and Poor Tea Garden Workers can Apply for a Free of Cost House.

Documents Required to be Attached

• Tea Garden Workers will have to attach the following documents with the Application Form at the time of applying for free of cost houses under the Chaa Sundari Housing Scheme of the West Bengal Government :-
  • Domicile of West Bengal/ Any Residence Proof.
  • Beneficiary Aadhar Card.
  • Registration Number or Card of Tea Garden Worker.
  • Passport Size Photograph.
  • Affidavit of Not Having any Other House.
  • Mobile Number.

How Beneficiaries Can Apply to Avail the Benefit of this Scheme

• Chaa Sundari Housing Scheme Application Form can be collected from the West Bengal Government’s Housing Department District Office.
• These application forms will be distributed to Tea Garden Workers free of cost.
• Tea Garden Workers of West Bengal will have to collect the Application Form of Chaa Sundari Housing Scheme from the District Office of the Housing Department.
• Fill the Application Form correctly without any mistakes.
• Arrange the required documents and attach them with the Form.
• Now, the Tea Garden Worker Beneficiary will have to submit this Application Form of Chaa Sundari Housing Scheme with all the documents attached to the same District Housing Department Office.
• Concerned Officials of the Department will accept the Application Form and provide an acknowledgement receipt to the beneficiaries.
• All received Applications and Documents of the Chaa Sundari Housing Scheme will be subject to verification.
• After verification, the Housing Department will release the list of beneficiaries selected for a free-of-cost house under the Chaa Sundari Housing Scheme of the West Bengal Government.
• Selected Beneficiary will be informed through SMS about their selection for house allotment.
• The government of West Bengal will allot houses under this scheme as per the availability of constructed houses.
• The application status of the Chaa Sundari Housing Scheme will be checked by visiting the Housing Department Office.
