Introduction of West Bengal Handloom Weavers Old Age Pension Scheme: A Brief Insight

  • West Bengal Government started lots of pension schemes in the State for all the needy factions of society.
  • One of the major welfare pension schemes started is the Handloom Weavers Old Age Pension Scheme.
  • Handloom Weavers don’t have a stable income source once they reach their old age.
  • So, with an aim to provide financial social security cover to old age handloom weavers, the West Bengal Government started this scheme.
  • The responsible department of this scheme is Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises and Textiles Department.
  • The other major name of this scheme is “West Bengal Handloom Weavers Old Age Prakalpa” or “West Bengal Old Age Pension Scheme for Handloom Weavers”.
  • Monthly Financial Assistance as a pension will be provided by the Government of West Bengal to all eligible Old Age Handloom Weavers under this scheme.
  • All beneficiaries will get Rs. 1,000/- per month pension under the Handloom Weavers Old Age Pension Scheme.
  • Handloom Weavers of 60 years or more than 60 years of age are eligible to apply for a monthly pension.
  • Registered Handloom Weavers are only eligible to avail the benefit of a per-month pension under the West Bengal Government Handloom Weavers Old Age Pension Scheme.
  • This is a sub-scheme of Jai Bangla Pension Scheme, which is an umbrella scheme for all the pension schemes of the West Bengal Government.
  • If any Handloom Weaver is a beneficiary of other pension scheme of West Bengal Government such as  “Widow Pension Scheme” or “Old Age Pension Scheme” or “Disability Pension Scheme” or “Taposili Bandhu Scheme” or “Jai Johar Scheme” or “Manabik Pension Scheme” then he/ she is not eligible to apply for Old Age Pension Scheme for Handloom Weavers.
  • Block Development Officer Office, Sub Divisional Officer Office and Kolkata Municipal Corporation Office have Application Form of Handloom Weavers Old Age Pension Scheme, which can be collected free of cost.
  • Pension amount will be directly transferred in the Aadhar-linked bank account ofthe  beneficiary.
  • Government of West Bengal has also started Portal for Artisans and Weavers of West Bengal.

Benefits Provided to Eligible Beneficiaries

  • Old Aged Handloom Weavers of West Bengal will get the below mentioned benefits under the Old Age Pension Scheme for Handloom Weavers :-
    • Financial Assistance per Month as a Pension will be provided.
    • Pension of Rs. 1,000/- per Month will be given to all Eligible Beneficiaries.

Eligibility Conditions Required to be Fulfilled

  • Only those Handloom Weavers of West Bengal will get the monthly financial assistance as pension who fulfill the eligibility criteria of Handloom Weavers Old Age Pension Scheme:-
    • Registered Handloom Weavers are Eligible to Apply.
    • Handloom Weavers’ Age should be 60 Years or More than 60 Years.
    • Permanent Residents or Residents for 10 Years in West Bengal are Eligible.
    • Beneficiaries of Other Financial Assistance Schemes are not Eligible.

    • Aadhar Card of Applicant.

How Beneficiaries Can Apply to Avail the Benefit of this Scheme

  • Handloom Weavers of West Bengal whose age is 60 years or above can apply for old age pension through Application Form.
  • Handloom Weavers Old Age Pension Scheme Application Form can be collected without any cost from the Gram Panchayat or the Block Development Officer’s Office in the Rural Area.
  • In an urban area, beneficiaries can collect the application form from the Sub Divisional Officer’s Office or the Kolkata Municipal Corporation Office.
  • Beneficiaries can check their eligibility first before applying for a pension under this scheme.
  • After taking the Application Form, fill it out without any mistakes.
  • Attach all the mandatory documents with it.
  • Beneficiary Handloom Weavers will have to submit the Application Form along with all the Documents to the office of the Block Development Officer, Sub Divisional Officer or Kolkata Municipal Corporation Office.
  • Preliminary verification of received application forms and documents will be done by BDO, SDO and KMC Office.
  • List of Selected Beneficiaries will then be uploaded by concerned officials on Jai Bangla Portal and forwarded it to the Collector’s Office of the concerned District.
  • Office of the District Collector will verify the details and further forward them to the Department for the sanction of pension and disbursement of money.
  • Department of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises and Textiles will sanction the Elderly Pension for Handloom Weavers and transfer the amount of pension directly in the bank account of the beneficiary.
  • Application Status can also be checked by visiting the BDO, SDO or KMC Office.
