Introduction of the West Bengal Pension Scheme: A Brief Insight
- West Bengal Pension Scheme is the social welfare scheme of the West Bengal Government.
- It was launched in the year 2010.
- The main objective behind launching this scheme is to provide financial security to below persons mentioned of West Bengal:-
- Old Age Persons.
- Widow Women.
- Disable/ Physically Handicapped Person.
- Department of Women & Child Development and Social Welfare of the Government of West Bengal is the responsible department of this Pension Scheme.
- Under the West Bengal Government’s Pension Scheme, the Government will provide a monthly pension of Rs. 1,000/- to every eligible Old Age Person, Widow Women and Disabled Person of West Bengal.
- Pensioners can use this monthly pension to take care of their daily expenses.
- Eligible Beneficiary can apply for the Pension Scheme by filling the Offline Application Form of every specific scheme separately.
- Disability Pension Scheme of the West Bengal Government is now known as “Manabik Pension Scheme”.
- There is no Online Application of the West Bengal Pension Scheme is available.

Eligibility Conditions Required to be Fulfilled
- The following eligibility is set by the Government of West Bengal to avail the benefit of a monthly pension under the West Bengal Pension Scheme:-
Common Eligibility for All Pension Applicants - Applicant Should be a Permanent Resident of West Bengal.
- OR Applicant Should be Residing in West Bengal for 10 Years.
- The Monthly Income of the Applicant Should be below Rs. 1,000/- per Month.
- Applicant should not be a recipient of any other Government Financial Assistance.
Old Age Pension - The Age of Applicant Should be :-
- 60 Years or More.
- 55 Years or More for Mentally or Physically Handicapped Old Age Applicant.
Widow Pension - Applicant Should be a Widow.
- She is in our own and not maintained by anyone in relation.
Disability Pension - Applicant Should be a Disabled/ Physically Handicapped Person.

How Beneficiaries Can Apply to Avail the Benefit of this Scheme
- Eligible Beneficiaries can apply for a Monthly Pension under the West Bengal Pension Scheme by filling out the Offline Application Form.
- Application Forms for every eligible person under the West Bengal Pension Scheme are as follows:-
- All the Application Forms are available free of cost at any of the following offices :-
- Office of the Block Development Officer or Panchayat Samiti. (In Rural Area).
- Office of the Sub-Divisional Officer. (In Urban Area).
- Office of the Controller of Vagrancy. (In the Kolkata Municipal Corporation Area).
- Take the Application Form from any of the above-mentioned offices and fill it carefully.
- Attach all the required documents to the application form.
- Submit the Application Form of the West Bengal Pension Scheme along with all the documents in the same office from where it was collected.
- Application Form along with all the Documents, will be scrutinized by the Block Development Officer or Sub Divisional Officer.
- After initial verification, the applications of West Bengal Pension Scheme will be forwarded to the office of the District Magistrate for final approval.
- After final approval from the District Magistrate’s Office, the monthly pension of Rs. 1,000/- per month under West Bengal Pension Scheme will be transferred in the given bank account of every eligible beneficiary every month.
