Introduction of Sabooj Sathi Scheme: A Brief Insight

  • The government of West Bengal launched Sabooj Sathi Scheme in the year 2015 at Paschim Medinipur.
  • The main aim of starting this scheme is to increase the enrollment of students in schools, increase their retention and school and encourage students to pursue for their higher education.
  • Through Sabooj Sathi, West Bengal Government also aims to promote eco-friendly mode of transportation among students.
  • The nodal department of this scheme is Backward Classes Welfare Department.
  • Whereas, Government’s Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes Development And Finance Corporation is the implementing agency of this scheme.
  • The tagline of this scheme is “Wheels of Change”.
  • West Bengal Government will now provide free-of-cost cycles to all eligible school-going students under this Scheme.
  • Students studying in Class 9th, Class 10th, Class 11th and Class 12th will get bicycles under Sabooj Sathi Scheme.
  • Private School Students are not eligible, Students studying in Government of West Bengal Schools, Government Aided Schools and Madrasahs are only eligible to get cycles under this scheme.
  • The other major names of this scheme which are popularly famous in West Bengal are “Sabooj Sathi Prakalpa” or “Sabooj Sathi Yojana” or “Bicycle Distribution Scheme of West Bengal”.
  • Since the launch of this Scheme, more than 1.24 crore students have received bicycles successfully.
  • Till date cycles will be distributed in 9th phases and very soon 10th phase of Sabooj Sathi Prakalpa will be started.
  • An open tender will be issued for procurement of cycles in which leading manufacturers cycles distributers will be selected.
  • West Bengal Government also launched the Official Website of Sabooj Sathi Scheme.

Benefits Provided to Eligible Beneficiaries

  • Government of West Bengal will provide the below-mentioned benefits to all eligible students of Class 9th, Class 10th, Class 11th and Class 12th under the Sabooj Sathi Scheme :-
    • Free of Cost Cycles will be provided to all Eligible Students.
    • Students from Class 9th to Class 12th will get Bicycles without any cost.

Eligibility Conditions Required to be Fulfilled

  • Free of Cost Cycles under the West Bengal Government’s Sabooj Sathi Scheme will be provided to those beneficiaries who fulfill the below-mentioned criteria of scheme :-
    • Permanent Resident Students of West Bengal are Eligible.
    • Beneficiary Student should be studying in :-
      • West Bengal Government Schools.
      • West Bengal Government Aided Schools.
      • Madrasahs of State.
    • Free Cycles will only provided to Class 9th, Class 10th, Class 11th and Class 12th Students under this Scheme.

Documents Required to be Attached

  • The following documents will have to be submitted in concerned schools by students in order to get free cycles under Sabooj Sathi Prakalpa of West Bengal :-
    • Student Aadhaar Card.
    • School Identity Card of Student.
    • Mobile Number.

How Beneficiaries Can Apply to Avail the Benefit of this Scheme

  • Government of West Bengal didn’t provide any direct application facility for students to apply for Sabooj Sathi Scheme.
  • Registration of Students under this Scheme will be done by the concerned Head of School.
  • Head of School will enter the details of all eligible students in Banglar Siksha Portal and create a profile.
  • The concerned Department will then import all the details of students from Banglar Siksha Portal to Sabooj Sathi Portal.
  • Head of School will then login on Sabooj Sathi Portal and go to Student Profile Verification.
  • Head of School will have to verify the Name, Address and Phone Number of students.
  • After verification of all students, HOS will have to click on Finalize to submit all the records.
  • District Nodal Officer along with other higher officials will verify the submitted records.
  • Tagging of Schools and Delivery Points will be created for the distribution of cycles under Sabooj Sathi Scheme of West Bengal Government.
  • On the give date and time, free of cost cycles will be distributed to selected students at delivery points.
  • Beneficiary Student can search their name in Cycle Distribution List of Sabooj Sathi Scheme with the help of their District, Block, School, Phase and Class.

  • In case any help or assistance is required regarding this scheme, the beneficiary student can also register their grievance through their Applicant ID and Date of Birth.
