Introduction of Meghalaya Chief Minister Hospitality Scholarship Programme: A Brief Insight

  • Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma recently launched an educational welfare scheme named “Chief Minister Scholarship Scheme” in which a yearly scholarship of Rs. 6,000/- will be provided to students from Class 11th to Ph.D course.
  • Now on 02-09-2025, Tourism Minister of Meghalaya, Shri Paul Lyngdoh has also announced to start another scholarship scheme for those students who are studying educational courses in the hospitality sector.
  • The name of the scheme is “Chief Minister Hospitality Scholarship Programme”.
  • The main objective of the Meghalaya Government behind launching this scholarship programme is to encourage students to pursue their higher studies in the hospitality sector after completing Class 12th and make a rich contribution in the tourism and hospitality industry of Meghalaya.
  • Chief Minister Hospitality Scholarship Programme is going to be implemented by the Department of Tourism of the Government of Meghalaya.
  • Beneficiary Students who are currently studying in IHM Shillong and pursuing a B.Sc. in Hospitality and Hotel Administration are eligible for a scholarship under the Meghalaya Government’s CM Hospitality Scholarship Scheme.
  • All the course fees and educational expenses, such as Tuition Fees, Hostel Charges, Mess Charges and Uniform Charges, will be borne by the Meghalaya Government.
  • Beneficiary Students don’t have to pay any fees while doing a B.Sc. in Hospitality and Hotel Administration.
  • If any student’s family annual income is more than Rs. 3 lakh per year, then they are not eligible for a scholarship under the Chief Minister Hospitality Scholarship Programme of the Meghalaya Government.
  • There is no minimum or maximum age group required; however, a student must pass his/ her class 12th with English as a subject.
  • CM Hospitality Scholarship Programme of Meghalaya Government will going to be operational for 3 batches/ years initially, in which 55 students per batch/ per year will be selected for scholarship.
  • Meghalaya Government allocated Rs. 6,06,57,475/- for the smooth implementation of the Chief Minister Scholarship Programme, in which 165 students will get the scholarship and the government spends around Rs. 3.67 Lakh per student.
  • Currently, the CM Hospitality Scholarship Scheme Application Process is not cleared by the Government.
  • However, the Block Development Officer will nominate the students and the State Level Committee will select the students for scholarship under the Government of Meghalaya’s Chief Minister Hospitality Scholarship Program.

Benefits Provided to Eligible Beneficiaries

  • Government of Meghalaya under its Chief Minister Hospitality Scholarship Programme, will provide the following benefits to all students who are currently studying in the B.Sc. Hospitality and Hotel Administration in IHM Shillong :-
    • Complete Course Fees will be paid by the Meghalaya Government.
    • Course Fees Include but are not limited to :-
      • Tuition Fees.
      • Hostel Charges.
      • Mess Charges.
      • Uniform Charges.

Eligibility Conditions Required to be Fulfilled

  • The benefits of scholarship under the Chief Minister Hospitality Scholarship Programme will be provided to only those students who fulfill the below-mentioned eligibility criteria of the scheme :-
    • Permanent Resident Students of Meghalaya are Eligible to Apply.
    • Beneficiary Student should have passed Class 12th with English as a Subject.
    • Students should be studying in B.Sc. Hospitality and Hotel Administration at IHM Shillong.
    • The Annual Family Income of a Student should not be more than Rs. 3 Lakh per year.
    • No Minimum or Maximum Age is required.

  • Beneficiary Students will have to submit the following documents at the time of applying for the scholarship under the Meghalaya Government’s Chief Minister Hospitality Scholarship Programme :-
    • Class 12th Marksheet.
    • Class 12th Certificate.
    • Residence Proof of Meghalaya.
    • Students Photo.
    • Family Income Certificate.
    • Documents related to Admission in IHM Shillong.
    • Mobile Number.
    • Email ID.

How Beneficiaries Can Apply to Avail the Benefit of this Scheme

  • Minister of Tourism of Meghalaya Government Shri Paul Lyngdoh has announced to launch of the Chief Minister Hospitality Scholarship Programme in the State.
  • He didn’t give any other information related to the Application Process of the CM Hospitality Scholarship Programme of the Meghalaya Government.
  • He only mentioned that the selection of students will be based on merit and interest and the nomination will be made by the Block Development Officer.
  • Thereafter, the final selection of students for scholarship under the Government of Meghalaya’s Chief Minister Hospitality Scholarship Programme will be done by the State Level Selection Committee.
  • So, from this announcement, we can only conclude that there is a possibility that the Application Form of the Chief Minister Hospitality Scholarship Programme can be collected and will be submitted to the Office of the Block Development Officer.
  • BDO will initially verify the received applications and nominate the eligible one for the scholarship.
  • State Level Committee will then further give its approval to give a scholarship to selected students under the CM Hospitality Scholarship Programme of the Meghalaya Government.
  • Beneficiary Student can contact the Block Development Officer for any help or assistance regarding this scholarship scheme of the Meghalaya Government.
