Introduction of Rajasthan 150 Unit Nishulk Bijli Yojana: A Brief Insight

Rajasthan Government launched the revamped version of the free electricity scheme in the State named “150 Unit Nishulk Bijli Yojana” (राजस्थान 150 यूनिट प्रतिमाह निःशुल्क बिजली योजना) on 14-10-2025.
The Home Minister of India Shri Amit Shah Ji, also launched the Official Portal of this scheme on the very same day of the scheme launch.
Previously, the Mukhyamantri Nishulk Bijli Yojana was operated in Rajasthan during the Congress Party government, in which the first 100 units of monthly electricity consumption were free.
The main objective of the government in starting this scheme is to provide relief to consumers on their electricity bills and encourage them to adopt green energy by installing rooftop solar power plants.
Rajasthan Government’s Energy Department will implement this scheme in whole of the whole state with the help of its 3 DISCOM Companies which are mentioned below :-
Free of Cost Electricity up to 150 Units per month will be provided by the Rajasthan Government under its 150 Unit Nishulk Bijli Yojana.
But to avail the benefit of 150 units of electricity free of cost every month, the applicant will have to install a minimum 1.1 KW solar power plant on their rooftop under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana of the Central Government.
This means the Rajasthan Government will only provide the benefit of free electricity per month under 150 Unit Prati Maah Nishulk Bijli Yojana to only those beneficiaries who have enough space on roof and are ready to install a rooftop solar power plant.
Applicants who are ready to install the solar power plant can receive the benefit of Rs. 33,000/- subsidy from the Central Government under PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana.
Then on 07-11-2025, the Rajasthan Government also announced that beneficiaries will receive an additional subsidy of Rs. 17,000/- if they install the solar plant on their rooftop.
DISCOM Companies will also deliver the free smart meter to beneficiaries.
The benefit of the 150 Unit Free Electricity Scheme of the Rajasthan Government is only available for those beneficiaries who are already registered in the previous Mukhyamantri Nishulk Bijli Yojana.
To avail the benefit of 150 units per month free electricity under this scheme, the beneficiary applicant will have to give their consent on the Official Website of 150 Unit Nishulk Bijli Yojana, that they are ready to install the rooftop solar power plant.
Then, in the next stage, the applicant will have to apply to install a rooftop solar power plant under the Central Government’s PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana.
Once the solar plant is installed on the roof of the applicant and the DISCOM company verify it, the benefit of 150 per month free electricity will be provided to the applicant by delivering a zero amount electricity bill.
It is estimated that 1.04 crore registered beneficiaries will receive the benefit of 150 units of free electricity per month under the 150 Unit Nishulk Bijli Yojana of the Rajasthan Government.

Benefits Provided to Eligible Beneficiaries

Rajasthan Government under its 150 Unit Nishulk Bijli Yojana will provide the following benefits to all eligible applicants who are already registered under the previous Mukhymantri Nishulk Bijli Yojana :-

Free of Cost Electricity up to 150 Units per month will be provided to beneficiaries who set up a Solar Plant on their rooftop.
The beneficiary will receive a Zero Electricity Bill on Consumption of up to 150 units per month.
Regular Electricity Charges will be applicable if the monthly electricity consumption is more than 150 units per month.
Subsidy of Rs. 50,000/- on the Installation of a 1.1 KW rooftop solar power plant will also be provided.
- Rs. 33,000/- will be provided by the Central Government under PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana.
- Rs. 17,000/- will be provided by the Rajasthan Government.
An incentive of Rs. 1,100/- by DISCOM to the first 10 lakh beneficiaries.
DISCOM Company will also provide the Smart Electricity Meter Free of Cost.

Eligibility Conditions Required to be Fulfilled

Free Domestic Electricity up to 150 Units per Month will be provided to only those beneficiaries who meet the below-mentioned eligibility criteria of 150 Unit Nishulk Bijli Yojana of the Rajasthan Government :-
- Permanent Residents of Rajasthan are Eligible for this scheme.
- Beneficiary Applicant should have registered in the Previous “Mukhyamantri Nishulk Bijli Yojana“.
- Applicants should be ready to apply for the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana to install a solar plant on their rooftop.
- Applicants should have enough space on their roof to set up a Solar Plant.
- Applicant will have to install a minimum 1.1 KW or More Capacity Solar Plant on their rooftop.
- Benefits will be provided only to Domestic Users/ Electricity Connections.
- Applicants who already have a solar plant on their roof are not eligible to apply.

Documents Required to be Attached

The following documents will be required at the time of registering under the Government of Rajasthan’s 150 Unit Nishulk Bijli Yojana to avail the benefit of free electricity per month :-
- Latest Electricity Bill.
- PM Surya Ghar Beneficiary Registration Number.
- Mobile Number.
- Email ID.
- Aadhaar Card of the Applicant.
- Bank Account Number with IFSC Code.

How Beneficiaries Can Apply to Avail the Benefit of this Scheme

By following the two-stage application process, any applicant can register themselves under the Rajasthan Government’s 150 Unit Nishulk Bijli Yojana and avail the benefit of free electricity up to 150 units per month.
The following are the two stages that can be followed by the beneficiary applicant to register themselves under this scheme :-
- By Providing Consent to install a rooftop solar Plant.
- By Applying under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana.

Process to Provide Consent to Install Solar Plant

Before starting, we hereby reiterate that the benefit of the 150 Unit Nishulk Bijli Yojana of the Rajasthan Government will be provided to only those applicants who have already registered under “Mukhyamantri Nishulk Bijli Yojana”.
Registered Applicants of Mukhyamantri Nishulk Bijli Yojana will have to provide their consent first for the installation of a rooftop Top Solar Power Plant.
In the first phase of this free electricity scheme, the benefits will be provided to those applicant who has enough space on their rooftop to install a solar power plant.
Domestic Electricity User of Rajasthan who are beneficiaries of Mukhyamantri Nishulk Bijli Yojana can register their consent through the 150 Unit Nishulk Bijli Yojana Official Website or through the Mobile App of Bijli Mitra.
Open the Official Portal and click on 150 Unit Per Month Nishulk Bijli Yojana.
A new window will open in which a section to enter the 12-digit K Number and instructions of the scheme is there.
Read the Instructions of the Government of Rajasthan’s 150 Unit Nishulk Bijli Yojana, enter your K Number and click on search.
The portal will check the eligibility status of the electricity connection number and verify it through OTP.
After successful authentication, the following details in the consent form of 150 Unit Nishulk Bijli Yojana have automatically filled :-
- Name.
- Father’s Name.
- Account Number.
- Beneficiary Status.
- Sanctioned Load.
- Address.
- Mobile Number.
Portal will ask whether you have enough space to install a rooftop solar power plant, answer it as yes.
Read the instructions carefully, provide your consent by clicking on the check box and click on Registration.
A message will appear after registration which has the applicant’s K Number and Consent Number of 150 Units Per Month Nishulk Bijli Yojana as shown below in the image.
Download the Consent form and save it for future reference.
Now, apply for Solar Power Plant under PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana and avail the benefit of free 150 unit electricity per month under the Rajasthan Government’s 150 Unit Free Electricity Scheme.

Apply Process under PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana

After providing consent on the Official Website of 150 Unit Nishulk Bijli Yojana, the applicant will then have to apply for the Central Government’s PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana to install a solar plant on the rooftop.
Applicants can apply for a minimum 1.1 KW Solar Plant if their monthly electricity consumption is between 0 to 150 units.
If the monthly electricity consumption is more, the applicant can apply for above 1.1 KW Solar Plant.
But, the Rajasthan Government will only provide the maximum subsidy of Rs. 17,000/- on the installation of 1.1 KW only.
Open the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana Official Website and click on Apply Now.
Register yourself with your Mobile Number and fill in the basic details in the profile.
Click on “Apply for Solar Rooftop” and fill in further details like State Name, District Name, DISCOM Name, and Electricity Connection Number.
Upload the required documents and click on the submit button to submit the application form.
Select the Vendor and submit your bank account details after getting feasibility approval.
Authorised Vendors will then install the solar plant on the rooftop of the beneficiary and submit the installation details to DISCOM.
Verification of the rooftop Solar Power Plant will be done by the Assistant Engineer (AE) of the DISCOM of the Rajasthan Government.
After the site verification, the central government will release Rs. 33,000/- subsidy and the Rajasthan Government will release Rs. 17,000/- subsidy directly into the bank account of the applicant.
Through this, beneficiaries can install the solar power plant on their rooftop free of cost by using the subsidy amount.

How the Benefit of 150 Units of Free Electricity is Provided to the Applicant

A total of Rs. 50,000/- subsidy will be provided to beneficiaries on the installation of a 1.1 KW rooftop solar plant.
So, every month, the Electricity Distribution Companies (DISCOM) of the Rajasthan Government will provide 150 units per month free electricity to those applicants who installed the roof-based solar plant under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana.
Electricity Companies will distribute zero amount bills every month to the beneficiaries.
DISCOM Companies will also provide the incentive of Rs. 1,100/- to the first 10 lakh applicants.
