Introduction of Telangana Indiramma Saree Scheme: A Brief Insight

• Chief Minister of Telangana Shri Revanth Reddy launched the most prominent welfare scheme for the women of the State on the birth anniversary of the Iron Lady of India, Late. Smt. Indira Gandhi.
• The name of the Scheme is “Indiramma Saree Scheme”, which was launched on 19^th of November 2025.
• The main objective of the government behind starting this scheme is to facilitate the women of the state by providing them with brand new sarees.
• As the motive of the scheme is clear from the name of this scheme, the Telangana Government will distribute free sarees among eligible women under the Indiramma Saree Distribution Scheme.
• Indiramma Saree Distribution Program is a large-scale program of the Telangana Government in which 1 crore sarees will be distributed to 1 crore women.
• Out of 1 crore women, 65 lakh women beneficiaries are from rural areas and 35 lakh women beneficiaries are from Municipality/ Urban Area.
• Due to the intensity of this program, the Telangana Government decided to implement Indiramma Chiralu (Saree) Scheme in two phases.
• The First Phase of Indiramma Saree Scheme has already started from 19^th November 2025 and it ends on the Telangana Talli Avatarana Day, i.e. on 9^th of December 2025.
• Indiramma Saree Pathakam First Phase is only for rural area women residents, in which around 65 lakh women from rural areas will receive free sarees under this scheme.
• The Second Phase of Indiramma Mahila Shakti Saree Distribution Scheme will start from March 1^st 2026, and end on the occasion of International Women’s Day, i.e. 8^th of March 2026.
• Telangana Government will distribute free sarees to only urban area resident women in the second phase of Indiramma Mahila Shakti Saree Distribution Scheme, in which around 35 lakh women beneficiaries will receive it.
• Sarees provided under this scheme will be made by Handloom Workers of Sircilla.
• District Administration will organise camps with the help of Gram Panchayat in Rural Areas and with the help of Municipal Corporation in Urban Areas in each district as per the phase.
• Women Beneficiaries can visit the camps and collect the Saree free of cost under the Indiramma Saree Scheme after Aadhaar and Facial Recognition.
• Women Beneficiaries can contact the District Officials in case any help is required regarding this scheme.
• Further, the beneficiary women can also apply for the “Mahalakshmi Scheme” of the Government of Telangana in which the benefit of a gas cylinder at Rs. 500, Monthly Financial Assistance of Rs. 2,500/- per month and Free Travel in Transport Corporation Buses will be provided.

Benefits Provided to Eligible Beneficiaries

• Telangana Government under its Indiramma Saree Scheme will provide the following benefits to all eligible rural and urban area resident women :-
  

  Free of Cost Sarees will be distributed among needy women beneficiaries. Around 1 Crore Sarees to 1 Crore Women will be distributed. Distribution of Sarees will be conducted in a phased manner such as :- In the First Phase, Sarees will be distributed among Rural Area Women Beneficiaries. In the Second Phase, Sarees will be provided to Urban Area Women Beneficiaries.

Eligibility Conditions Required to be Fulfilled

• Free of Cost Sarees under Indiramma Saree Scheme of Government of Telangana will be provided to only those beneficiaries who fulfil the following eligibility criteria of the scheme :-
  • Permanent Resident Women of Telangana are Eligible.
  • Both Rural and Urban Area Women Beneficiaries will get the benefit of a free saree.
  • District Administration will select the women as per the data of the caste census.

Documents Required to be Attached

• Women Beneficiaries should have the following documents in possession before visiting the saree distribution program camps organised under Indiramma Saree Scheme of Telangana Government :-
  • Aadhaar Card of the Women Beneficiary.
  • Mobile Number.

How Beneficiaries Can Avail the Benefit of this Scheme

• There is no need to apply directly to receive a Saree under the Telangana Government’s Indiramma Saree Scheme.
• Each District Collector has data collected during the caste census which helps the administration to select the needy women beneficiaries.
• District Administration with the help of Gram Panchayats in Rural Area will organise a state-wide camp from 19-11-2025 to 09-12-2025 across the State in the first phase of Indiramma Saree Scheme of Telangana Government.
• Women Beneficiaries who are living in rural areas can visit those camps and collect the saree distributed by Telangana Government under Indiramma Saree Distribution Scheme.
• Then in the second phase of Indiramma Saree Scheme, District Administration with the help of Municipal Corporation will organise camps from 01-03-2026 to 08-03-2026 in the Urban Areas.
• Women Residents of Urban Area will have to visit the camps and receive a free of cost saree under the Indiramma Saree Distribution Program.
• District Officials present in the camps will ensure the transparency and smoothness in the saree distribution program and verify the identity of a woman beneficiary through Aadhaar and Face authentication.
• So, women beneficiaries can visit the camps and avail the benefit of free sarees distributed by the Government of Telangana under the Indiramma Saree Scheme.
• Eligible Women Beneficiaries can also apply to get a free sewing machine under the “Free Sewing Machine Scheme” of the Telangana Govt.
