Introduction of Rajasthan Sahkari Gramin Parivar Ajeevika Rin Yojana: A Brief Insight
Many rural families in Rajasthan earn their livelihood through handicrafts, cottage industries, weaving, food processing, small shops, and other non-agricultural activities. Although these businesses have the potential to grow, arranging affordable finance has always been a major challenge. High-interest loans and the requirement of collateral often prevent rural entrepreneurs from expanding their work or starting a new livelihood activity.
To address this problem, the Government of Rajasthan announced the Sahkari Gramin Parivar Ajeevika Rin Yojana in the State Budget 2022-23. The scheme was approved on 10 October 2022 and implemented across Rajasthan from 17 April 2023. It is administered by the Cooperatives Department, Government of Rajasthan through Gram Seva Sahkari Samitis to improve livelihood opportunities for rural families engaged in eligible non-farm activities.
Under this scheme, eligible families can obtain an interest-free loan ranging from Rs. 25,000 to Rs. 2,00,000 for approved non-farm livelihood activities. Instead of charging interest to the borrower, the Rajasthan Government provides the applicable interest subsidy directly to the lending bank. Eligible loans are also covered under the Credit Guarantee Fund Trust for Micro and Small Enterprises (CGTMSE), allowing beneficiaries to avail the loan without providing collateral.
The scheme aims to benefit around 1.5 lakh rural families with an overall loan outlay of Rs. 3,000 crore. Loans are made available through Cooperative Banks, Commercial Banks, Regional Rural Banks, and Small Finance Banks participating in the scheme. Depending on the sanctioned loan amount, beneficiaries receive a repayment period ranging from 2 to 5 years.
Permanent residents of Rajasthan who have been living in a rural area for at least 5 years and earn their livelihood through eligible non-farm activities can apply for the scheme. Small and marginal farmers engaged in non-farm work, landless labourers, tenant farmers, rural artisans, sharecroppers, and other eligible rural families may benefit, subject to the prescribed eligibility conditions. Applications can be submitted through the nearest Gram Seva Sahkari Samiti or, where available, through the Official Rajasthan SSO Portal.
Rural entrepreneurs who require a higher loan amount can also explore the Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana (PMMY), while educated unemployed youth may benefit from the Mukhyamantri Yuva Swarozgar Yojana. Traditional artisans can also check the Vishwakarma Yuva Udyami Protsahan Yojana for additional financial and skill development support.
