Introduction of Assam Mukhya Mantrir Nijut Babu Aasoni: A Brief Insight

• The Chief Minister of Assam, Shri Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Twitter on 1st January 2026 to start a financial incentive scheme for male students named “Mukhya Mantrir Nijut Babu Aasoni”.
• Taking further steps to implement this scheme, Assam Government’s Higher Education Department released the Application Form and Official Guidelines of Babu Asoni on 6th of January 2026.
• Assam Government is going to launch this scheme officially on 1st of February 2026.
• The main aim of the Assam Government behind launching this scheme is to :-
  • Increase the Enrolment of Male Students Belonging to Economically Weaker Families.
  • To encourage the Male Students to pursue higher education after completing the Higher Secondary Level.
  • To Reduce the Dropouts among Male Students.
• Earlier, the Assam Government started the “Mukhya Mantrir Nijut Moina Scheme” in which monthly financial assistance will be provided to female students.
• The government thinks that there is an ample need to start another financial incentive scheme for boys students also which can provide financial support to them.
• So, through Mukhya Mantrir Nijut Babu Aasoni, the Assam Government will provide per month financial incentive to those students who are currently in their 1st year of an undergraduate course or in their 1st year of Post Graduation Course.
• Rs. 10,000/- per academic year i.e. Rs. 1,000/- per month for 10 months, will be provided to those students who are in the 1st year of the UG Course. (BA/ B.Sc./ B.Com)
• Any male student who is in 1st year of an undergraduate course and a beneficiary of the CM Jibon Prerana Scheme, then he is not eligible to apply for the monthly incentive under CM Nijut Babu Aasoni.
• Rs. 20,000/- per academic year i.e. Rs. 2,000/- per month for 10 months, will be provided to those students who are inthe  1st year of PG Course. (MA/ M.Sc./ M.Com)
• If any male student who is in 1st year of the Post Graduate Course and a beneficiary of the Banikanta Kakati Merit Award Scheme, then he is not eligible to apply for the Chief Minister Nijut Babu Asoni Scheme of the Government of Assam.
• Permanent Residents, Regular Student of Assam who belongs to the economically weaker section, studying in Government or Provincialised Educational Institute and whose family income is not more than Rs. 4 lakh per year are eligible for per month assistance under Assam Government’s Mukhyamantri Nijut Babu Aasoni.
• Application Form of Nijut Babu Aasoni is available in the respective college of the beneficiary students.
• Collect the Application Form, fill it correctly, submit it to your college and avail the benefit of a monthly financial incentive directly in your bank account under the Government of Assam’s Mukhya Mantrir Nijut Babu Aasoni.
• Beneficiary Students will receive the financial assistance unde Babu Aasoni Scheme on 01-02-2026.

Benefits Provided to Eligible Beneficiaries

• Students of Assam studying in the 1st year of Under Graduate Course or 1st Year of Post Graduate Course will receive the following benefits from the government under Mukhya Mantrir Nijut Babu Aasoni :-
  • Eligible Male Student will receive a monthly financial incentive as a scholarship.
  • An incentive of Rs. 1,000/- per month for a period of 10 months i.e. Rs. 10,000/- per academic year, will be provided to students studying in their 1st year of Under Graduate Course.
  • An incentive of Rs. 2,000/- per month for a period of 10 months i.e. Rs. 20,000/- per academic year, will be provided to Students studying in their 1st Year of Post Graduation Course.
  • No Financial Incentive will be paid for Summer Vaccation or any vacation exceeding 1 month.

Eligibility Conditions Required to be Fulfilled

• Assam Government will provide a monthly financial incentive of Rs. 1,000/- per month and Rs. 2,000/- per month to only those students who fulfil the following eligibility criteria of Mukhya Mantrir Babu Aasoni :-
  • Assam State’s Permanent Resident Students is Eligible to Apply.
  • Students should be studying in the 1st Year of an Undergraduate Course or 1st Year of a postgraduate course.
  • Students studying in Government and Provincialised Educational Institutions are only eligible.
  • The Annual Family Income of Students should be below Rs. 4 Lakh per year.
  • Only Regular Students are Eligible for Monthly Financial Assistance.
  • Undergraduate Beneficiary Students of the CM Jibon Prerana Scheme are not eligible to apply.
  • Same as, Post Graduate Beneficiary Students of Banikanta Kakati Merit Award Scheme are not eligible to apply for CM Nijut Babu Aasoni.
  • Married male students are also not eligible for the incentive amount.

Documents Required to be Attached

• Beneficiary Students will have to attach the following document with the Application Form of Mukhya Mantrir Nijut Babu Aasoni at the time applying for the monthly financial incentive :-
  • Filled Application Form.
  • Original and Photocopy of Aadhaar Card.
  • SAMARTH Enrollment Number.
  • Assam Residence Proof.
  • Annual Income Proof of a Family or Ration Card.
  • Bank Account Number with IFSC Code.
  • Mobile Number and Email.

How Beneficiaries Can Apply to Avail the Benefit of this Scheme

• Assam Government released the Official Guidelines and Application Form for Students of Mukhya Mantrir Nijut Babu Aasoni.
• Students in the Undergraduate Course and in the Post Graduate Course will have to fill the separate application form of this scheme.
• The Assam Government’s Mukhya Mantrir Nijut Babu Aasoni Application Form for UG and PG is available free of cost in the respective college of the students.
• The Registrar or Principals will have the responsibility to announce and distribute the application form of the scheme among students.
• It is also mandatory for the Head of the Educational Institutions to notify one or two Nodal Teachers for implementing the Mukhyamantri Nijut Babu Aasoni.
• Beneficiary Students will have to collect the Nijut Babu Asoni Application Form from their respective college and fill in the following details correctly in it :-
  • Personal Details.
  • Educational Details.
  • Bank Details.
• Attach all the required documents with the Application Form and submit it to your college administration department of college.
• The Registrar/ Principals will collect the Mukhya Mantri Nijut Babu Aasoni Application Form from the students and verify the details.
• The details of verified students will then be submitted on the SAMARTH Portal for auto verification.
• The Educational Institution authority will ensure that every student will submit the valid income certificate or ration card of the parents with the Application Form and the same will be verified and uploaded on the portal.
• Officials of the Department of Higher Education will then re-verify the details of the students submitted by the college under the Government of Assam’s Chief Minister Nijut Babu Aasoni Scheme.
• Students found to be eligible will receive monthly financial assistance as a scholarship for 10 months under this scheme.
• Contact the Nodal Officer of the Scheme notified by the college in case any help of assistance is required regarding Mukhya Mantrir Nijut Babu Aasoni.
