Introduction of Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana: A Brief Insight

  • Government of India launched the largest health care scheme in the world on the 23rd of November 2018.
  • The name of the Scheme is “Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana”. (PM JAY)
  • The main objective of the government behind starting PM JAY is to provide high-quality health care services to all low-income group families of the country so that no one can be deprived of mandatory medical services.
  • This scheme is implemented by Ministry of Health & family Welfare in collaboration with the National Health Authority and State Health Agencies.
  • The government will provide free, cashless, and paperless medical treatment services to all eligible people of India.
  • Each eligible family can avail free-of-cost medical treatment services up to Rs. 5 lakh per year under Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana.

Benefits Provided to Eligible Beneficiaries

  • Each and every eligible family will get the following benefits under the Central Government’s Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY) :-
    • Free and Cashless Medical Treatment.
    • Medical Treatment up to Rs. 5 lakh per family per year in Government or any Empanelled Private Hospital.
    • Medical Treatment covers Secondary and Tertiary Care Hospitalization.
    • Whole Treatment is completely Free, Cashless, and Paperless.
    • Covers 3 Days or Pre-Hospitalization and 15 Days of Post-Hospitalization.
    • Pre-Existing Conditions/ Diseases are also covered.

Eligibility Conditions Required to be Fulfilled

  • Free and Cashless Treatment up to Rs. 5 lakh in private empanelled hospitals and in government hospitals will be provided to only those beneficiaries who fulfill the below-mentioned eligibility criteria of Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY) :-
    Rural Areas
    • There are 6 categories defined for the Rural Area, which are D1, D2, D3. D4, D5 and D6, beneficiaries coming under these categories are eligible get the Ayushman Card :-
      • People Living in One Room with Kuccha Walls and Kuccha Roof (D1)
      • Family has No Adult Member aged between 16 to 59 years (D2)
      • Family has No Male Member of Age between 16 to 59 years (D3)
      • Family has Disabled Member or Disabled Adult Member (D4)
      • Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe Families (D5)
      • Landless Families who are engaged in Labour Work (D6)
    Urban Areas
    • People belonging to below-mentioned 11 categories are eligible to get the Ayushman Card under the PM Jan Arogya Yojana :-
      • Domestic Workers
      • Beggars
      • Ragpickers
      • Sweeper or Sanitation Worker or Mali
      • Street Vendor or Cobbler or Hawker or People working on the Streets
      • Transport Worker or Driver or Conductor or Helper of Driver or Cart Puller or Rickshaw Puller
      • Home-Based Worker or Artisan or Handicraft Worker or Tailor
      • Construction Workers or Plumbers or Masons or Labourers or Painters or Welders or Security Guards or Collies or other Workers
      • Washer Man or Chowkidar
      • Electrician or Mechanic or Assembler or Repair Worker
      • Shop Worker or Assistant or Peon of Small Establishment or Helper or Delivery Assistant or Attendant or Waiter
    People Automatically Eligible
    • The following people are automatically eligible for free treatment under the Ayushman Bharat Prime Minister Jan Arogya Scheme :-
      • Families who don’t have a Home or Shelter
      • Families living Destitute or on Alms
      • Manual Scavengers
      • Primitive Tribal Groups
      • Bonded Labourers who are Legally Released
    Other Eligible Beneficiaries
    • All Ration Card Holder Families. (National Food Security Act Beneficiaries)

How Beneficiaries Can Apply to Avail the Benefit of this Scheme

Through the Official Website

  • The easiest way to get an Ayushman Card under the PM Jan Arogya Yojana of the Central Government is through beneficiary.nha.gov.in.
  • Visit the Portal to make an Ayushman Card Online and log in as a Beneficiary by entering your mobile number.

  • Mobile Number of the Applicant will be verified by the portal through OTP.
  • After that, Select PMJAY, your State, Sub Scheme Name, your District, Family ID and enter your Family ID (Ration Card) Number.

  • A complete list of the family, with the names of the members of the family will appear on the screen.
  • Click on e-KYC, Applican can complete their Ayushman Card e-KYC through the following ways :-
    • Aadhaar OTP
    • Finger Print
    • IRIS Scan
    • Face Authentication
  • Choose any one of the above-mentioned methods and complete your e-KYC for the Ayushman Card.
  • The portal will generate the Ayushman Card of the Applicant, which can be downloaded from the portal itself.

Through the CSC Centre

  • Ayushman Card under Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY) can also be made by visiting the nearest Common Service Centre. (CSC)
  • Take your Ration Card and Aadhaar Card with you and visit your nearest CSC Centre.
  • CSC Agent will log in to the official website with their login ID and password and enter the Ration Card Number of the Applicant.
  • The portal will fetch the details of the family from NFSA Data and show it on the screen.
  • E-KYC is mandatory in order to make an Ayushman Card under this scheme.
  • CSC Agent can perform e-KYC of the Applicant through Aadhaar authentication or Finger Print Scanner or through Iris Scanner.
  • Ayushman Card will be generated by the PM-JAY Portal after successful verification.
  • Collect the Ayushman Card from the CSC Agent and avail the benefit of free and cashless treatment up to Rs. 5 lakh underthe  Central Government’s Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana.

Through Hospitals

  • Beneficiaries can also enroll themselves under the Central Government’s Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana by visiting any government or empanelled hospital in their district.
  • The government sets PM JAY Counters at every hospital to provide the facility of easy enrollment and hospitalization.
  • Visit the PM-JAY Counter and provide them with your Ration Card and Aadhaar Card.
  • The operator present at the counter verifies the family ration card and Aadhaar card of the applicant and does e-KYC on the spot.
  • It is mandatory to have the same name in the Aadhaar Card and the Ration Card to match the data.
  • Once verified, the operator will print the Ayushman Card of the Applicant and hand it over.
  • This Ayushman Card is applicable in all government hospitals and empanelled hospitals and helps the applicant to avail cashless treatment up to Rs. 5 lakh.

Through a Mobile Application

  • Eligible Applicants can also apply for the Ayushman Card under the Central Government’s PM Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY) through its Official Mobile Application.
  • Download the Ayushman Bharat Yojana Official Mobile Application.

  • Choose Login as Beneficiary and Enter your Mobile Number.

  • Enter your Family Ration Card Number and Click on Search.
  • A list of Family Members will appear and you have to choose the name of the family member to make the Ayushman Card Online.

  • If beneficiaries face any problem regarding Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, then they can file a complaint.
  • Central Government has the Official Portal through which aggrieved people can file a complaint regarding PM JAY.
  • Open the Portal and Click on Register Your Grievance.
