Every household of Jharkhand will now get free electricity up to 200 units per month under Mukhyamantri Urja Khushali Yojana which is popularly known as “Jharkhand Free Electricity Scheme”. No need to pay electricity bills if the beneficiary consumes less than 200 units of electricity per month.

Introduction of Jharkhand Mukhyamantri Urja Khushali Yojana: A Brief Insight

• Jharkhand Government implemented a free electricity scheme in the State in August 2022.
• The main aim of this scheme is to provide relief to the low-income group from high electricity prices.
• Energy Department of the Jharkhand Government is the implementing department of this scheme.
• Free of cost electricity will be provided by the Jharkhand Government under this free electricity scheme.
• Earlier, free electricity up to 100 units per month will be provided to every eligible household in the initial phase of this scheme.
• The beneficiary household doesn’t have to pay any bill amount if they consume monthly electricity up to 100 units.
• Then in the month of February 2024, the Jharkhand Government increased the free electricity monthly consumption to 125 units per month.
• Then Jharkhand Government’s Cabinet, led by former Chief Minister Shri Champai Sore,n increased this monthly electricity consumption limit from 125 units per month to 200 units per month.
• During the election, current Jharkhand Chief Minister Shri Hemant Soren also changed the name of the scheme from “Free Electricity Scheme” to “Mukhyamantri Urja Khushali Yojana”.
• Now, according to the present scenario, every eligible household of Jharkhand will get free of cost electricity up to 200 units per month under Mukhyamantri Urja Khushali Yojana”.
• There is no need to pay any type of Energy Charge, Fixed Charge, Electric Duty, or FPPPA Charge if the beneficiary household consumes monthly electricity of 200 units.
• Apart from free of cost electricity per month, there is also a facility to settle the defaulting electricity bill under this scheme.
• Jharkhand Government’s Bijli Vitran Nigam Limited will distribute zero amount electricity bills to eligible households per month.
• Subsidy in term of reimbursement will then be provided by the Jharkhand Government to Bijli Vitran Nigam Limited as compensation.
• It is estimated that around 33,07,294 consumers from Rural Area and 6,37,095 from Urban Area will get the benefit of free of cost electricity up to 200 units per month under Mukhyamantri Urja Khushali Yojana of the Government of Jharkhand.
• Government of Jharkhand will pay around Rs. 350/- crore per month to Bijli Vitran Nigam Limited as a subsidy to compensate electricity bills.
• The other major well known name of this scheme are “Free Electricity Scheme Jharkhand” or “200 Units Free Electricity Scheme Jharkhand” or “Chief Minister Urja Khushali Scheme Jharkhand” or “Mukhyamantri Urja Khushali Scheme Jharkhand” or “मुख्यमंत्री ऊर्जा खुशहाली योजना झारखण्ड”.
• This scheme was given by the Government at the time of the assembly election of 2024 with other welfare schemes like “Mukhyamantri Maiyya Samman Yojana”.
• No need to apply and no need to fill any application form for the Mukhyamantri Urja Khushali Yojana of the Jharkhand Government.
• Each household are eligible and gets free electricity under this scheme if they consume less than 200 units of electricity per month.

Benefits Provided to Eligible Beneficiaries

• Government of Jharkhand will provide the following benefits to all eligible households under its Mukhyamantri Urja Khushali Yojana :-
  • Eligible Households will get Free of Cost Electricity per month.
  • Household will Use Free Electricity up to 200 Units per month.
  • Zero Bills will be generated every month and distributed among beneficiary households.
  • Energy Charge, Fixed Charge, Electric Duty, and FPPPA Charge are also exempted.
  • Defaulters Bill will also get settled under this Scheme.

Eligibility Conditions Required to be Fulfilled

• Free of Cost Electricity up to 200 units per month under Mukhyamantri Urja Khushali Yojana of Jharkhand Government will only provided to those households who fulfil the below-mentioned eligibility criteria of the scheme :-
  • Only Permanent Residents of Jharkhand are Eligible.
  • Households should have Valid Domestic Electricity Connection at Home.
  • Household’s Electricity Consumption per Month should be Less than 200 Units.
  • Both Rural and Urban Area Household Residents will get Free of Cost Electricity.

Documents Required to be Attached

• In order to avail the benefit of free of cost electricity up to 200 units per month under Jharkhand Government’s Mukhyamantri Urja Khushali Yojana, the beneficiary should have the following documents :-
  • Latest Domestic Electricity Bill.
  • Aadhaar Card of the Consumer.

How Beneficiaries Can Apply to Avail the Benefit of this Scheme

• The beneficiary household doesn’t have any need to apply separately for Mukhyamantri Urja Khushali Yojana of the Jharkhand Government in order to avail the benefits of free of cost electricity up to 200 units per month.
• Each households that consume monthly electricity of less than 200 units per month is eligible to get free of cost electricity.
• Jharkhand Bijli Vitran Nigam Limited will generate and distribute zero amount electricity bills among those consumers who consume up to 200 units of electricity per month.
• No Energy Charge, Fixed Charge, Electric Duty, and FPPPA Charge is charged from beneficiary households.
• Jharkhand Government will then provide the subsidy amount to Bijli Vitran Nigam Limited on a monthly basis to compensate for the amount of electricity bills.
• So there is no need to apply for the Mukhyamantri Urja Khushali Yojana of the Jharkhand Government.
• Each household will automatically get the benefit of free electricity under this scheme if they consume less than 200 units of electricity per month.
