Introduction of Bihar Laxmi Bai Samajik Suraksha Pension Yojana: A Brief Insight

• Laxmi Bai Samajik Suraksha Pension Yojana is one of the major welfare schemes of the Bihar Government.
• It was launched in the year 2007 for the widows of the State of Bihar.
• The main objective of starting this scheme is to uplift the lives of widows and ensure a dignified life for them by providing financial assistance every month.
• The Social Welfare Department of the Bihar Government is the implementing department of this scheme.
• Monthly Pension of Rs. 1,100/- per month will be provided by the Bihar Government to widows of the State under its Laxmi Bai Samajik Suraksha Pension Yojana, popularly known as the Widow Pension Scheme of the Bihar Government.
• Earlier, the amount of this pension scheme is very low i.e., Rs. 400/- per month.
• On 24-06-2025, the cabinet of the Bihar Government took a major decision by increasing the amount of the widow pension to Rs. 1,100/-.
• The same amount of pension will be provided to old age people under “Mukhyamantri Vridhjan Pension Yojana” and to disabled people under “Bihar State Disability Pension Scheme”, which is also increased with the same cabinet decision.
• Widow Applicants whose age is 18 years or more and whose annual family income is less than Rs. 60,000/- per year are eligible to receive Rs. 1,100/- per month under the  Bihar Government’s Laxmi Bai Samajik Suraksha Pension Yojana.
• According to government sources, around 8,64,903 widow applicants are receiving Rs. 9,525.75 Lakh Rupees per month as widow pension, which is disbursed directly in their bank accounts.
• Application for Laxmi Bai Social Security Pension Scheme of the Bihar Government can be submitted online through Bihar E Services Portal and Offline through the Application Form, which is available at the RTPS Counter at the Gram Panchayat Office.
• Women Applicants can also apply for “Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana” in which they can get financial assistance of Rs. 10,000/,- which can be further extended to Rs. 2 lakh as per need basis to start their own self-employment business activity.

Benefits Provided to Eligible Beneficiaries

• Bihar Government, under its Laxmi Bai Samajik Suraksha Pension Yojana will provide the following benefits to all eligible widow applicants :-
  • Monthly Financial Assistance as a pension will be provided.
  • Each Widow Beneficiary will receive Rs. 1,100/- per month widow pension.
  • Assistance will be directly transferred to the bank account of the widow applicant.

Eligibility Conditions Required to be Fulfilled

• Rs. 1,100/- per month widow pension will be provided to only those beneficiary applicants who fulfill the following eligibility criteria of Laxmi Bai Samajik Suraksha Pension Yojana of the Government of Bihar :-
  • The applicant should be a widowed woman.
  • Widow Women Applicant should be a Permanent Resident of Bihar.
  • The Age of the Widow Applicant should be 18 years or more.
  • The Annual Family Income of the beneficiary should not be more than Rs. 60,000/-.
  • Widow Applicant should not be a beneficiary of any other pension scheme.

Documents Required to be Attached

• The documents that are required at the time of applying for the widow pension of Rs. 1,100/- per month under the Bihar Government’s Laxmi Bai Samajik Suraksha Pension Yojana are mentioned below :-
  • 10 Year Residence Proof or Residence Certificate of Bihar.
  • Women Applicant Aadhaar Card.
  • Voter Identity Card for Age Proof.
  • Husband’s Death Certificate.
  • Family BPL Ration Card or Income Certificate.
  • Mobile Number.
  • Email ID. ( If Available)
  • Bank Account Number with IFSC Code.
  • Recent Color Photograph.

How Beneficiaries Can Apply to Avail the Benefit of this Scheme

• Eligible Widow Applicants can apply for a monthly widow pension of Rs. 1,100/- under Laxmi Bai Samajik Suraksha Pension Yojana of the Bihar Government through 2 ways, which are mentioned below :-
  • Online through the E Service Portal.
  • Offline through the Application Form.

Online Application Process

• Bihar Government’s Laxmi Bai Samajik Suraksha Pension Yojana Online Application Form is available on the E Services Portal.
• E Services Portal, alias Lok Sevak Porta,l is a dedicated platform provided by the Bihar Government to the people of the State to apply for government service with more ease.
  
• Visit the Bihar E Services Portal and Choose Laxmi Bai Samajik Suraksha Pension Yojana.
• A new window will open from which the applicant will have to choose the Laxmi Bai Social Security Pension Scheme from the Scheme Name Tab.
  
• Next Section is of Applicant’s Details, in which the widow applicant will have to fill in all the personal details in the Bihar Widow Pension Scheme Online Application Form.
  
• Thereafter, the Widow Applicant will have to fill in the Complete Address of Residence as shown below in the image.
  
• Widow Beneficiary Applicant will have to then enter her bank account details correctly.
  
• It is mandatory to upload age proof and income certificate or BPL Certificate along with other documents on the portal.
  
• Check all the filled information and uploaded documents, then read the self-declaration and consent section.
• Click on the submit button to submit the Laxmibai Samajik Suraksha Pension Yojana Online Application Form of the Bihar Government.
• Submitted Application Form of Widow Pension, along with the document,s will be verified by the District Social Welfare Officer.
• List of eligible and selected widow beneficiaries found eligible for the monthly widow pension of Rs. 1,100/- under the Lakshmi Bai Samajik Suraksha Pension Yojana will be forwarded to the Directorate of District Social Security Koshang.
• The Assistant Director of District Samajik Suraksha Koshang will finally sanction the widow’s pension.
• Beneficiary Widow Applicants can receive the amount of Rs. 1,100/- per month directly in their bank account after final approval.
• Laxmi Bai Samajik Suraksha Pension Yojana Online Application Status can be checked with the help of the Application Reference Number.
  

Offline Application Process

• Widow Women of Bihar State can also apply through an Offline Application Form to get a monthly pension of Rs. 1,100/- under Laxmi Bai Samajik Suraksha Pension Yojana.
• Bihar Laxmi Bai Samajik Suraksha Pension Yojana Offline Application Form is available at the RTPS Counter, which is established in each Gram Panchayat Office.
• Visit your Gram Panchayat Office and collect the Application Form of the Bihar Widow Pension Scheme.
• Fill in all the details in the application form carefully and attach all the required documents with it.
• Government of Bihar’s Laxmi Bai Samajik Suraksha Widow Pension Scheme Application Form will be submitted in 2 copies at the RTPS Counter in the Gram Panchayat Office.
• District Social Welfare Officer will initially verify the received application form and documents and forward it further to Jila Samajik Suraksha Koshang for final Approval.
• District Samajik Suraksha Koshang’s Assistant Director will approve the widow pension of Rs. 1,100/- of eligible widow applicants.
