Introduction of MeitY Digital India Internship Scheme: A Brief Insight
The Central Government’s Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology started a unique internship initiative for students called the Digital India Internship Scheme. The ministry runs and manages this scheme to provide practical work experience to youth under the guidance of experienced mentors.
Under this scheme, the ministry offers short-term internship opportunities in technology-related fields. Selected interns work under experienced government officials and receive proper mentorship throughout the internship period.
The scheme provides a 2-month internship, which can be extended up to 3 months, along with a monthly stipend of Rs. 10,000. Students pursuing technical courses, especially in IT and related fields, can apply if they meet the eligibility conditions.
Applicants must secure at least 60% marks in their previous examination. The internship takes place in New Delhi, and interns must arrange their own accommodation. Each intern works under a Scientific or Technical Project Supervisor assigned by the ministry.
After successful completion, interns receive a certificate and must submit a report or paper to their mentor. For the year 2026, the registration process is live, and the last date to apply is 29 April 2026.

Selected interns receive the following benefits under the MeitY Digital India Internship Scheme:

Eligibility Conditions Required to be Fulfilled
Students who meet the following conditions can apply for the MeitY Digital India Internship Scheme.
- Only Indian citizens can apply.
- Applicants must have secured at least 60% marks in their last examination.
- Students must be currently pursuing any of the following courses:

How Beneficiaries Can Apply to Avail the Benefit of this Scheme
Students can apply for the MeitY Digital India Internship Scheme through the official online portal developed by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. The entire application process is completed online through a structured form.
Step 1: Visit the official application portal: MeitY Digital India Internship Scheme Portal.
Step 2: Click on the Register option and create your account by entering your Full Name, Email ID, Mobile Number, and Password.
Step 3: Enter the captcha and complete verification using the OTP sent to your registered email ID.
Step 4: Login to the portal using your Email ID and Password.
Step 5: After login, the online application form will appear on the screen. The form is divided into multiple sections.
Step 6: Fill in the Personal Details section, including Father’s Name, Gender, Date of Birth, Mobile Number, Statement of Purpose, Address, and upload Photograph and Signature.
Step 7: Fill in the Academic Details section, including Current Degree, Year, Stream, Institute Name, Examination Details, Marks (Percentage/CGPA), and Project Preferences.
Step 8: Select a maximum of two internship preferences as per your interest.
Step 9: Provide details of two references along with their designations.
Step 10: Upload all the required documents to the portal.
Step 11: Submit the application form. After that, the system generates an acknowledgement with a unique reference number for tracking.
Step 12: Track your application status through: Application Status Portal
Step 13: If selected, the Ministry will send an Internship Offer Letter via email.
Step 14: Confirm the offer to receive the Confirmation Letter and proceed with joining.

Interns Selection Process
After applicants submit the online application form, officials of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology scrutinise the forms.
The Ministry conducts the selection of interns through a Personal or Skype Interview.
Students who attend the personal interview are not entitled to any TA/DA.
Based on the interview results, the Ministry releases and publishes the list of selected interns on the website.
The Ministry issues the Internship Offer Letter to selected interns via email.
Selected interns must confirm the internship offer.
Students who confirm the internship offer receive a Confirmation Letter from the Ministry to join as an intern.
