Introduction of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Thayumanavar Scheme: A Brief Insight

  • Tamil Nadu Government is currently running lots of major welfare schemes for every section of society and some of the major ones are “”Magalir Urimai Thogai Scheme” (A financial assistance scheme for women), “Vidiyal Payana Thittam” (Free Travel in Government Buses for women), “Kalaignar Sports Kit Scheme” (Free Sports Kit to Players) and many more in list.
  • Now on 12.08.2025, Chief Minister Thiru. M.K. Stalin launched another welfare scheme for the people of the state, which is a need of time.
  • The name of the scheme is “Chief Minister Thayumanavar Scheme”, which has a tagline “Everything for Everyone”.
  • It is officially launched on the 12th of August 2025.
  • The main objective of the government behind launching the CM Thayumanavar Scheme is to remove the difficulties faced by senior citizens and physically disabled persons at the time of getting ration from PDS/ Fair Price Shop.
  • This scheme will be implemented by the Co-Operation, Food and Consumer Protection Department of the Tamil Nadu Government.
  • Chief Minister Thayumanavar Thittam is specifically started for elderly citizens aged 70 years or above and physically disabled persons.
  • Government will now provide a service in which ration will be delivered free of cost at the doorsteps of the senior citizens and disabled persons of the State.
  • This initiative of the Tamil Nadu Government will uplift the poor of the state and remove the hardship faced by the beneficiaries to get essential commodities from their nearest Ration/ Fair Price Shop/ Public Distribution Shop.
  • Senior Citizens having an age of 70 years or more and Disabled Persons who hold a family ration card will get free delivery of ration at their doorstep on every second Saturday and Sunday of every month.
  • Tamil Nadu Government flags off the delivery vehicles at the launch event through which volunteers will distribute the ration at the doorstep of beneficiaries under the Chief Minister Thayumanavar Scheme.
  • Government of Tamil Nadu estimates that more than 21 lakh beneficiaries will get the benefits of doorstep delivery of ration under the Chief Minister Thayumanavar Scheme.
  • This scheme will be implemented in 34,809 Fair Price Shops/ Public Distribution Shops of the state.
  • Rations will be distributed with the help of electronic weighing scales and E-POS machines, which will be carried by ration delivery vehicles with them.

  • Tamil Nadu Government, under its Chief Minister Thaiyumanavar Schem,e will provide the following benefits to all eligible senior citizens and differently abled persons of the State :-
    • Free of Cost Delivery of Ration Items atthe  doorstep of beneficiaries.
    • Ration includes all the essential commodities like Rice, Sugar etc.
    • Rations will be delivered on every Second Saturday and Sunday of every month.

Eligibility Conditions Required to be Fulfilled

  • Free Delivery of Ration at the doorstep of beneficiary under Tamil Nadu Government’s Chief Minister Thayumanavar Scheme will be provided to only those who fulfill the below-mentioned eligibility criteria of scheme :-
    • Ration at doorstep will be delivered to only the following persons :-
      • Elderly Senior Citizens aged above 70 years.
      • Differently Abled Persons.
    • Having a Family Ration Card is mandatory.

  • Beneficiaries Senior Citizens and Disabled Persons will have to show the following documents at the time of receiving the free ration delivery at home under the Chief Minister Thayumanavar Scheme of the Government of Tamil Nadu :-

How Beneficiaries Can Apply to Avail the Benefit of this Scheme

  • There is no need to apply separately for the Tamil Nadu Government’s Chief Minister Thayumanavar Scheme.
  • Eligible Elderly Citizens and Differently Abled Persons who hold a family ration card are automatically eligible to get free delivery of rations at their doorstep under this scheme.
  • Dedicated vehicles hired for the distribution of rations to beneficiaries will visit the house of beneficiaries on the second Saturday and Sunday of every month.
  • Each Ration Delivery Vehicle is equipped with Electronic Weighing Scales and an E-POS Machine through which the right and actual quantity of ration will be delivered to beneficiaries.
  • Volunteers on the ration delivery vehicle will deliver the ration to eligible beneficiaries as per their ration card.
  • There is a mobile app of the CM Thayumanavar Scheme through which volunteers will fill out the family information form at the time of delivering the ration.
