Introduction of West Bengal Chaa Sundari Extension Scheme: A Brief Insight

  • On 17th of September 2020, the West Bengal Government launched the Chaa Sundari Housing Scheme in the State.
  • Free of Cost Constructed Houses will be provided to houseless and poor Tea Garden Workers of West Bengal under the Chaa Sundari Scheme.
  • In earlier year, the Government of West Bengal provided land rights to some Tea Garden Workers.
  • According to Government data around 2,500 acres of unutilized or surplus land of tea gardens have been allocated to the Tea Garden Workers.
  • Around 23,000 Tea Garden Workers has got 5 Decimal of land each to construct houses of their own.
  • But due to poor economic conditions and low income, they didn’t construct houses on the allotted land.
  • So to support the tea garden workers in constructing their own home, the West Bengal Government started the “Chaa Sundari Extension Scheme”.
  • The main aim behind starting this scheme is to provide financial support to those tea garden workers to construct house who have been allocated government land.
  • Rs. 1,20,000/- for the construction of houses will be provided to Tea Garden Workers under the West Bengal Government’s Chaa Sundari Extension Scheme.
  • The thing to be noted here is that financial assistance for the construction of a house will only be provided to those Tea Garden Workers who have been allocated land/ patta for house construction by the West Bengal Government.
  • If the Tea Garden Worker is unregistered, then he/she is not eligible to get the assistance to construct a house as promised by the Government under the Chaa Sundari Extension Scheme.
  • Chaa Sundari Housing Scheme Beneficiaries are not eligible to apply again under this scheme.
  • So to avail the benefit of financial assistance for the construction of a house under the Chaa Sundari Extension Scheme, the Beneficiary Tea Garden Worker will have to take the Application Form from the District Housing Department Office and submit it after carefully filling it.
  • The other name of this financial assistance scheme is “Chaa Sundari Extension Prakalpa” in which prakalpa means scheme.
  • The beneficiary can also contact the West Bengal Government’s Housing Department’s Office in case of any help of assistance required for the Chaa Sundari Extension Scheme.

Benefits Provided to Eligible Beneficiaries

  • Tea Garden Workers will get the following benefits under the Chaa Sundari Extension Scheme of the West Bengal Government :-
    • The government will provide Financial Assistance for the Construction of a House.
    • Financial Assistance of Rs. 1,20,000/- will be given for House Construction to Tea Garden Workers.

Eligibility Conditions Required to be Fulfilled

  • Government of West Bengal will provide financial assistance to construct a house to only those beneficiaries who fulfil the following eligibility criteria of Chaa Sundari Extension Scheme :-
    • West Bengal Permanent Residents are Eligible to Apply.
    • Applicant should be a Tea Garden Worker working in West Bengal.
    • Tea Garden Worker should be Registered.
    • There should be a government-allocated Patta or Land in the name of a Tea Garden Worker.

Documents Required to be Attached

  • Tea Garden Workers will have to attach the documents mentioned below with the Application Form of Chaa Sundari Extension Scheme to get financial assistance for house construction :-
    • West Bengal State Domicile or Any Proof of Residence.
    • Aadhar Card of Beneficiary.
    • Identity Card or Registration No. of Tea Garden Worker.
    • Patta/ Land Allocation Documents.
    • Bank Account Number and IFSC Code.
    • Mobile Number.
    • Passport Size Photograph.

How Beneficiaries Can Apply to Avail the Benefit of this Scheme

  • Tea Garden Workers can collect the Chaa Sundari Extension Scheme Application Form from the West Bengal Government’s Housing Department District Office in order to avail the benefit of financial assistance for the construction of a house.
  • Application Form of Chaa Sundari Extension Scheme will be distributed free of cost to Eligible Tea Garden Workers.
  • Take the Application Form from the District Office of the Housing Department and fill it correctly without any mistakes.
  • Attach all the needed documents to the Application Form.
  • Application Form of the Chaa Sundari Extension Scheme along with all the documents attached, will have to be submitted to the same District Office of the Housing Department.
  • Officers of the Housing Department scrutinised the received application form and documents.
  • Housing Department will make the list of beneficiaries selected for financial assistance for the construction of a house under the Chaa Sundari Extension Scheme and release it.
  • If required, the concerned officials will also visit the site of house construction for double verification.
  • Beneficiaries selected under this scheme will be informed through SMS on their mobile phone.
  • Financial Assistance provided for the construction of a house under the Chaa Sundari Extension Scheme will be transferred to the bank account of the Beneficiary Tea Garden Workers.
  • The beneficiary can also check the Chaa Sundari Extension Scheme Application Status by visiting the West Bengal Government’s Department of Housing Office.
