  • Fishermen of the country including Fishermen of West Bengal has very unstable source of income in which they only rely on fishing activity.
  • And when fishermen reached the stage of their old age they have to depend on their family members financially for their day to day expenses.
  • Keeping these things in mind, the Government of West Bengal took major step by starting pension scheme for old age fishermen of State.
  • The name of scheme is “Old Age Pension Scheme for Fishermen”.
  • The main aim behind starting this scheme for fishermen is to provide social security support in terms of financially to old age fishermen of West Bengal.
  • Fisheries, Aquaculture, Aquatic Resources and Fishing Harbour Department is the imlementing department of this scheme.
  • Other major name of this schemes are “West Bengal Fishermen Old Age Pension Scheme” or “West Bengal Monthly Pension Scheme for Fishermen”.
  • Old Age Fishermen having 60 years of age or more than 60 years of age will get monthly pension of Rs. 1,000/- per month from West Bengal Government.
  • It is mandatory for Fishermen to get registered in Fisheries Department of West Bengal Government, Unregistered Fishermen are not eligible to get monthly pension under Old Age Pension Scheme for Fishermen.
  • If a Fishermen is a beneficiary of other pension scheme of West Bengal Government like “Jai Johar Scheme” or “Taposili Bandhu Scheme” or “Manabik Pension Scheme” then he/s he is not eligible to get monthly pension of Rs. 1,000/- per month under Old Age Pension Scheme for Fishermen.
  • This pension scheme is also comes under one umbrella scheme for pensions of West Bengal named “Jai Bangla Scheme”.
  • Fishermen can collect the Application Form from Gram Panchayat/ Gram Sabha/ BDO Office in rural areas.
  • Whereas the urban area resident fishermen can collect the Application Form from SDO or Kolkata Municipal Corporation Office.
  • Monthly Pension of Rs. 1,000/- under West Bengal Government’s Fishermen Old Age Pension Scheme can be transferred only in the aadhar linked bank account of beneficiary.
  • In case of any help or information needed about this scheme, beneficiary fishermen can visit the BDO, SDO or Municipal Corporation Office.

  • Government of West Bengal will provide the following benefits to Old Age Fishermen of West Bengal under its Pension Scheme for Fishermen :-
    • Monthly Financial Assistance as Pension to Old Age Fishermen.
    • Rs. 1,000/- per month as Pension will be given to Beneficiary Fishermen.

Eligibility Conditions Required to be Fulfilled

  • Monthly Pension of Rs. 1,000/- per month under West Bengal Government’s Old Age Pension Scheme for Fishermen will only provided to those beneficiaries who fulfill the below mentioned eligibility conditions :-
    • Only Fishermen are Eligible to Apply for Pension.
    • Fishermen should be a Permanent Resident or Residing in West Bengal for 10 Years.
    • Fishermen Age should 60 Year or More than 60 Years.
    • Beneficiary of other Pension Scheme are not Eligible to Apply.

Documents Required to be Attached

  • Beneficiary Old Age Fishermen of West Bengal will have to attach the following documents with the application form in order to avail the benefit of monthly pension of Rs. 1,000/- :-
    • West Bengal Residence Proof.
    • 1 Photo.
    • Fishermen Aadhar Card.
    • Voter ID Card.
    • Registration Number of Fishermen.
    • Bank IFSC Code and Account Number.
    • Mobile Number.
    • Ration Card of Family.

How Beneficiaries Can Apply to Avail the Benefit of this Scheme

  • Permanent Resident Old Age Fishermen of West Bengal can apply for monthly pension through Offline Application Form.
  • West Bengal Government hasn’t provide any facility to apply online yet and there is no official portal of Fishermen Old Age Pension Scheme available.
  • Old Age Fishermen can collect Application Form from the following offices :-
    • In Rural Areas :- Block Development Officer Office.
    • In Urban Areas :- Municipal Corporation Office or Sub Divisional Officer Office.
    • In Municipal Corporation Office of Kolkata.
  • Collect Application Form, fill it carefully and attach all the documents with it.
  • Fishermen Old Age Pension Scheme Application Form and all the documents will then submit in the same BDO, SDO and Kolkata Municipal Corporation Office.
  • Preliminary verification of received application forms will be done by the concerned BDO, SDO and Municipal Corporation Office.
  • Selected Beneficiary List will then forwarded to Office of District Collector for further verification and approval.
  • Final List of Fishermen selected for Old Age Pension can be forwarded to Fisheries, Aquaculture, Aquatic Resources and Fishing Harbour Department of West Bengal Government.
  • Department will sanction the pension and disbursed the amount of Rs. 1,000/- in the bank account of beneficiary fishermen.
  • Application Status of Old Age Pension Scheme for Fishermen of West Bengal can also be checked by visiting the office of Gram Panchayat.
