Introduction of Karnataka Thayi Bhagya Scheme: A Brief Insight

• Government of Karnataka started lots of welfare schemes in the state.
• Thayi Bhagya Scheme (कर्नाटक थायी भाग्य योजना) and Thayi Bhagya Plus Scheme are major welfare schemes of Kthe arnataka Government.
• It was launched by the Government of Karnataka in the year 2009.
• The main objective behind launching this Scheme is to provide free health care services to Pregnant and Lactating Mothers of Karnataka State.
• Karnataka Government’s Women and Child Welfare Department is the responsible department for this scheme.
• Thayi Bhagya has its own unique meaning in which “Thayi” means “Mother” and “Bhagya” means “Future”.
• So as the name suggests, this scheme is to secure the future of Mothers.

• Only Schedule Caste and Schedule Tribe Women belonging to Below Poverty Line are eligible to avail the benefit under this scheme.
• Two Deliveries per woman are eligible for free of cost services.
• The type of Deliveries mentioned below are also eligible under the Karnataka Government’s Thayi Bhagya Scheme :-
  • Forceps Delivery
  • Normal Delivery
  • Complicated Delivery
  • Cesarean Delivery
• Right now, there is no Online Application Form is available to apply for the Thayi Card under this Scheme.
• Eligible Beneficiaries will get the Thayi Card after their registration under the Thayi Bhagya Scheme.
• Another welfare scheme started by the Karnataka Government for pregnant women is are “Madilu Kit Scheme”.
• Pregnant Women can register themselves under this Scheme by filling out the Offline Application Form of the Scheme which is available at Anganwadi Centers.
• Eligible Beneficiaries can also register themselves for the Central Government’s “Prime Minister Matru Vandana Yojana” in which one-time financial assistance of Rs. 5,000/- in two installments for the first child and Rs. 6,000/- in two installments for the second girl child will be provided.

Benefits Provided to Eligible Beneficiaries

• Karnataka Government will provide the following benefits to all eligible Pregnant Women/ Lactating Mothers of the State under the Thayi Bhagya Scheme :-
  

  Pregnant Women can deliver their Child free of cost at any Government or Empaneled Hospital. All the Expenses on Delivery will be borne by the Karnataka Government. Pre and Post Pregnancy Period’s Cost of Treatment is Free of Cost. Free Transportation will also be provided to Pregnant Women from Home to the Hospital. No Money will have to be paid for any Medicines. All the Pre and Post Natal Check are Free of Cost.

Eligibility Conditions Required to be Fulfilled

• The below-mentioned eligibility conditions are required to be fulfilled to avail the benefit of the Thayi Bhagya Scheme of the Karnataka Government :-
  

  The applicant should be a Pregnant woman or a Lactating Mother. Women Beneficiaries should be permanent residents of Karnataka. Women Beneficiaries should belong to the BPL Category. Women Beneficiaries should belong to any of the following caste :- Scheduled Caste. Scheduled Tribe.

Documents Required to be Attached

• The following documents are required to avail the benefit and to make a Thayi Card under the Thayi Bhagya Scheme of the Karnataka Government :-
  • Domicile of Karnataka or Any Proof of Residence.
  • Any of the following card :-
    • BPL Card.
    • Ration Card.
  • SC/ ST Caste Certificate.
  • Pregnant Women Aadhar Card.
  • Mobile Number.

How Beneficiaries Can Apply to Avail the Benefit of this Scheme

• Eligible Pregnant Women Beneficiaries can apply for the Thayi Bhagya Scheme of the Karnataka Government by filling out the Offline Application Form.
• The offline Application Form of the Thayi Bhagya Scheme is available at any Anganwadi Center.
• ASHA Worker or Junior Health Officer present at the Anganwadi Center will help the pregnant woman to fill the Application Form of Thayi Bhagya Scheme and get the pregnant lady registered.
• Then, the Thayi Bhagya Scheme Application along with all the documents, will be forwarded to the Department of Women and Child Welfare for approval.
• After approval, the beneficiary can collect her ANC Card/ Thayi Bhagya Card from the Anganwadi Center.
• With the received Thayi Bhagya Card, Pregnant Women can avail the services of free delivery or free check-ups by showing the card in any Government or empanelled private Hospital.
• Contact the Anganwadi Worker in case any help or assistance is required regarding the Government of Karnataka’s Thayi Bhagya Scheme.
