Introduction of Karnataka Prasoothi Araike Scheme: A Brief Insight

  • Karnataka Government started Samagra Mathru Arogya Palane Scheme with the objective of improving the nutritional status of lactating mothers and pregnant women in the state.
  • This scheme has 4 sub-schemes which are the “Thayi Bhagya Scheme”, “Thayi Bhagya Plus Scheme”, “Madilu Kit Scheme” and the last one is the “Prasoothi Araike Scheme”.
  • All schemes had started with a focused objective to ensure that every pregnant woman and lactating mother would get proper nutritional care during pregnancy.
  • Prasoothi Arailke Scheme was started by the Karnataka Government in the year 2007.
  • Its main aim is to make sure that every pregnant women and lactating mother will get proper pre and postnatal care.
  • Women and Child Development Department of the Government is the implementing department of this scheme.
  • One Time Financial Assistance will be provided by the Karnataka Government under the Prasoothi Araike Scheme to all eligible pregnant women and lactating mothers.
  • BPL Category Women and Women belonging to the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe categories are only eligible to get assistance under this scheme.
  • BPL Category Women will get Rs. 2,000/- one-time financial assistance under the Prasoothi Araike Scheme from the Karnataka Government.
  • Whereas, Pregnant Women and Lactating Mothers from the Schedule Tribe and Schedule Caste Category will get assistance of Rs. 3,000/-.
  • This financial assistance also includes the Janani Suraksha Yojana amount which is a Central Government scheme for Pregnant Women.
  • Pregnant Women and Lactating Mothers can use this financial assistance to take care of the expenses which can be incurred during the pre- and post-natal pregnancy period.
  • Financial Assistance under the Prasoothi Araike Scheme will be provided in two equal instalments.
  • First Instalment will be released during the 2nd trimester ofthe pregnancy period.
  • Whereas, the second instalment of the Prasoothi Araike Scheme will only be released if pregnant women deliver her child in government hospitals.
  • This scheme has some other popular names also which are “Prasuthi Araike Scheme” or “Prasooti Araike Scheme”.
  • Registration of the Prasoothi Araike Scheme will be done by the ASHA Worker or the ANM at the Community Health Centre.
  • Pregnant Women or Lactating Mothers can also contact their area ASHA worker in case of any help required regarding the scheme.
  • PM Matru Vandana Yojana is also a Central Government Scheme for pregnant women in which financial assistance will be provided on the birth of a child.

Benefits Provided to Eligible Beneficiaries

  • Eligible Pregnant Women belonging to the Scheduled Caste or Scheduled Tribe will get the following benefits under the Karnataka Government’s Prasoothi Araike Scheme :-
    • One Time Financial Assistance will be provided to Lactating Mothers.
    • Lactating mothers belonging to the SC or ST Category will get Rs. 3,000/- Assistance.
    • Lactating Mother belonging to the BPL Category will get assistance of Rs. 2,000/-.
    • Assistance will be provided in instalments.
    • Benefits will be applicable for 2 deliveries.

Eligibility Conditions Required to be Fulfilled

  • Benefits of the Prasoothi Araike Scheme of the Karnataka Government will be provided to those beneficiaries who fulfil the below-mentioned eligibility criteria of scheme :-
    • Only Pregnant Women are Eligible for Benefits.
    • Pregnant Women should be permanent residents of Karnataka.
    • Beneficiary Women should belong tothe  Below Poverty Line (BPL) Category.
    • Pregnant Women Beneficiaries should belong to the Schedule Tribe or Schedule Caste Category.
    • The delivery of the Child should be in a Government Hospital.

Documents Required to be Attached

  • Women Beneficiaries will have to submit the following documents with the Application Form of Prasoothi Araike Scheme in order to avail the benefits :-
    • Domicile Certificate of Karnataka or Any Permanent Residence Proof.
    • Family Ration Card or Below Poverty Line Card (BPL).
    • Certificate of SC/ ST Caste.
    • Anti-Natal Care (ANC) Registration Number.
    • Bank Account Number and IFSC Code.
    • Beneficiary Women Aadhaar Card.
    • Mobile Number.

How Beneficiaries Can Apply to Avail the Benefit of this Scheme

  • In order to get one-time financial assistance under the Karnataka Government’s Prasoothi Araike Scheme after the birth of a child in a government hospital, beneficiary women will have to contact the ASHA or ANM worker at the Community Health Centre of their area.
  • ANM or ASHA Worker will register pregnant women by filling the details of pregnant women in the Application Form of Prasoothi Araike Scheme.
  • Pregnant Women just have to submit the documents as asked by the ASHA Worker or the ANM.
  • After Registration in the Prasoothi Araike Scheme, ASHA Worker or ANM will also arrange all the pre and post-natal checkups during pregnancy for pregnant women.
  • First Instalment of Prasoothi Araike Scheme will be released during the 2nd trimester of pregnant women.
  • Second Instalment ofthe  Scheme will be released only when a pregnant women gave the birth to her child in any government hospital.
  • Application Status of Prasoothi Araike Scheme of Government of Karnataka can be checked by visiting the Community Health Centre and meeting with the ASHA Worker or ANM.
