Introduction of Uttar Pradesh Bijli Bill Rahat Yojana: A Brief Insight

• According to government sources, there are many electricity consumers who have thousands of rupees of electricity bills pending.
• Due to their financial instability, the consumers are not able to repay the amount to the power corporation.
• Keeping these things in mind and seeing the hardship of people, the Uttar Pradesh Government started a new welfare scheme to provide relief in pending electricity bills.
• The name of the scheme is “Bijli Bill Rahat Yojana 2025” (उत्तर प्रदेश बिजली बिल राहत योजना).
• The main objective of the government behind starting this scheme is to encourage people to pay their pending electricity bills by providing them rebate/ subsidy.
• Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited has implemented Bijli Bill Rahat Yojana in the whole of the State.
• Rebate on late payment surcharge (interest) and on the principal amount of the electricity bill will be provided by the Uttar Pradesh Government under its Bijli Bill Rahat Yojana alias Electricity Bill Subsidy Scheme of UP Government.
• 100% rebate will be provided on the outstanding amount of the late payment surcharge incurred on the electricity bill.
• The benefit of a rebate on the late payment surcharge amount is applicable till the last date of this scheme.
• Apart from that, a 25% subsidy on the principal amount of the electricity bill will also be provided by the Government of Uttar Pradesh under its Bijli Bill Rahat Yojana.
• Bijli Bill Rahat Yojana 2025 will be implemented by the UP Government in 3 phases for a time period of 3 months.
• The benefit of this scheme is being implemented from the 1st of December 2025.
• To provide more relief to electricity consumers, the beneficiaries can pay their electricity bill in small installments of Rs. 500/- or Rs. 750/-.
• If any consumer has a pending electricity theft criminal matter, then the applicable subsidy is 50%.
• So, if any electricity consumer has a pending electricity bill and has a huge amount of late payment surcharge, then they can pay the amount within 3 months starting from 01-12-2025 and avail the benefit of a rebate under Bijli Bill Rahat Yojana of Uttar Pradesh Government.
• Both Online and Offline methods are available to pay the pending electricity bills.
• To get relief in electricity bills, consumers can also install a rooftop-based solar plant under “PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana” and avail the benefit of a subsidy up to Rs. 78,000/- on the installation cost.

Benefits Provided to Eligible Beneficiaries

• Uttar Pradesh Government under its Bijli Bill Rahat Yojana will provide the following benefits to all eligible electricity consumers of the State :-
  • 100% Rebate on Late Payment Surcharge Amount (Interest) on Electricity Bill.
  • 25% Rebate on the Principal Amount of the Electricity Bill.
  • Pending Amount of the Electricity Bill can be repaid in easy instalments of Rs. 500/ Rs. 750/-.
  • 50% Rebate on the Tax Amount of Electricity Theft Cases.

Eligibility Conditions Required to be Fulfilled

• The benefit of a rebate on the late payment surcharge amount and the principal amount of the electricity bill will be provided to only those beneficiaries who fulfil the following eligibility criteria of Bijli Bill Rahat Yojana of the Government of Uttar Pradesh :-
  • Residents of Uttar Pradesh are Eligible.
  • The applicant should have a Valid Electricity Connection.
  • The applicant should have a pending amount on the electricity bill.

• The following documents will be required at the time of availing the benefit of a rebate on the pending electricity bill amount under Uttar Pradesh Government’s Bijli Bill Rahat Yojana :-
  • Latest Electricity Bill.
  • Aadhaar Card of the Applicant.
  • Mobile Number.

How Beneficiaries Can Avail the Benefit of this Scheme

• There is no need to directly apply for the Government of Uttar Pradesh’s Bijli Bill Rahat Yojana 2025.
• All consumer who has a pending electricity bill can avail the benefit of a rebate on the principal amount of the electricity bill and the incurred surcharge amount on it.
• Beneficiary Consumer will only have to pay the pending amount of the electricity bill to avail the rebate under Bijli Bill Rahat Yojana.
• There are multiple ways to pay the pending electricity bill.
• The first way is to visit the nearest electricity department office and pay the amount of electricity bill.
• The officials present at the cash counter will deposit the electricity bill amount and settle the late payment surcharge and principal amount as per the rebate policy mentioned by the Uttar Pradesh Government under Bijli Bill Rahat Yojana 2025.
• The other method to avail the benefits is to pay the electricity bill through the UPPCL Official Website or through the UPPCL Mobile App.
• Click on Pay Online Electricity Bill.
• Choose your District, enter your Electricity Account Number or Registered Mobile Number and click on view.
  
• Portal will fetch the electricity connection details through the registered mobile number or account number.
• Beneficiary Consumer can see the Principal Amount and Surcharge Amount after deducting the rebate under Bijli Bill Rahat Yojana on their screen.
• Pay the amount and avail the benefit of a rebate on the pending electricity amount.
• Call on 1912 or visit the nearest electricity department office for any help or assistance required regarding Uttar Pradesh Government’s Bijli Bill Rahat Yojana.
