Introduction of Chhattisgarh Bijli Sakhi Yojana: A Brief Insight

  • Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai launched Bijli Sakhi Yojana in the state on 23-10-2024.
  • The main objective of the government behind starting this scheme is to increase the annual income of women members of Self Help Groups registered in the State so that they can become financially stable and self-reliant.
  • Bijli Sakhi Yojana was launched as a pilot project from Jashpur, but now this scheme is implemented in the whole of Chhattisgarh.
  • In Chhattisgarh, there is a shortage of meter readers in the electricity department, due to which the consumers’ electricity meters cannot be read regularly.
  • Through the Bijli Sakhi Yojana initiative, the Chhattisgarh Government will train the women members of registered Self Help Groups to read the electricity meter, to do Spot Billing and to distribute bills and elect them as Bijli Sakhi.
  • Trained Bijli Sakhi will then go door to door and read the electricity meter reading and distribute the spot on electricity bills generated with the Android Mobile App and Bluetooth Thermal Printer accordingly.
  • 1,000 Houses will be allocated to each trained Bijli Sakhi under Bijli Sakhi Yojana.
  • For each meter reading, the beneficiary Bijli Sakhi will earn Rs. 12/-.
  • So if we calculate the aggregate amount of earnings, each Bijli Sakhi will earn from Rs. 6,000/- to Rs. 12,000/- per month under Bijli Sakhi Yojana.
  • Electricity Department will directly transfer the monthly earnings of Bijli Sakhi into their Aadhaar-linked bank accounts.
  • Chhattisgarh Government aims to increase the annual income of all women members of Women Self Help Group to Rs. 1 lakh per year and make them Lakhpati Didi through Bijli Sakhi Yojna.
  • Eligible Women Members of Self Help Groups can apply to become Bijli Sakhi under the Chhattisgarh Government’s Bijli Sakhi Yojana by visiting the nearest Electricity Department Officer.
  • Chhattisgarh Government has two other women-oriented schemes named “Mahatari Vandan Scheme” in which monthly financial assistance will be provided to women and “Mahtari Shakti Loan Scheme” in which a loan of up to Rs. 25,000/- will be provided to start self-employment activity.
