Introduction of Delhi Free Gas Cylinder Scheme: A Brief Insight

• Delhi Government’s cabinet approved the free gas cylinder scheme for the people of Delhi on 03-02-2026.
• Chief Minister of Delhi Smt. Rekha Gupta announced that cabinet approved the implementation of Free Gas Cylinder Scheme.
• The main objective of the Government behind starting this scheme is to provide relief from gas cylinder prices to low-income group households during the festive season.
• This initiative of the Delhi Government is also showing the commitment to provide clean fuel and a better life to people.
• The benefits of 2 Domestic LPG Cylinders Free of Cost per year will be provided to eligible beneficiaries under the Free Gas Cylinder Scheme of the Delhi Government.
• Valid Ration Card holder families will receive a free gas cylinder each on the auspicious occasion of Holi and Diwali.
• Delhi Government will directly transfer the amount of 1 domestic cylinder i.e. Rs. 853/-, into the bank account of the beneficiary.
• However, the beneficiary of Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana will only receive Rs. 553/- per cylinder assistance amount after deducting the subsidy of Rs. 300/- provided by the Central Government.
• CM Rekha Gupta also clarifies that the households that are using PNG will also receive the amount of assistance equivalent to the price of a cylinder under the Free Gas Cylinder Scheme of the Delhi Government.
• Delhi Government allocated the budget of Rs. 242.77 Crore for the smooth implementation of the Free LPG Cylinder Scheme in the State.
• The inauguration of the Free Gas Cylinder Scheme will be done from Holi 2026.
• On the day of Holi 2026, the eligible beneficiaries will receive Rs. 853/- into the bank account for gas cylinder purchase under the Delhi Government’s Nishulk Gas Cylinder Yojana.

Benefits Provided to Eligible Beneficiaries

• Delhi Government through its Free Gas Cylinder Scheme will provide the following benefits to all eligible ration card holders of the State :-
  • Free Gas Cylinders on Holi and Diwali will be provided.
  • Each Beneficiary will receive the full purchase amount of the cylinder.
  • Normal Gas Connection Consumer will receive Rs. 853/- in their bank account and PM Ujjwala Yojana beneficiary will receive Rs. 553/-.
  • PNG Connection Holders are also eligible to receive the amount.
  • The Amount of the gas cylinder will be transferred directly into the bank account of the beneficiary.

Eligibility Conditions Required to be Fulfilled

• 2 Free Gas Cylinder each on Holi and Diwali will be provided by the Delhi Government to only those beneficiaries who fulfil the below mentioned eligibility criteria of Free Gas Cylinder Scheme :-
  • Permanent Resident Families of Delhi are eligible.
  • Beneficiary Family should have a Valid Ration Card.
  • Beneficiary of PM Ujjwala Yojana is also eligible to receive the benefits.
  • The Benefit of a free LPG Cylinder will be provided on Holi and Diwali only.
  • Beneficiaries who have PNG Connection will also be covered under this scheme.
  • Commercial Gas Connections is not eligible under this scheme.

How Beneficiaries Can Apply to Avail the Benefit of this Scheme

• On 3rd February 2026, the Delhi Government cabinet officially approved the Free Gas Cylinder Scheme to support low-income families.
• Through this decision, the government confirmed that eligible households will receive financial assistance for two domestic LPG cylinders every year on Holi and Diwali.
• At present, the Delhi Government has not announced any formal application process for this scheme.
• However, the most probable approach is that the government will work in coordination with Gas Distribution Companies such as Indane, Bharat Gas, and HP Gas.
• Under this system, the government will directly transfer the cylinder amount to the beneficiary’s bank account after verifying eligibility through the ration card and consumer details.
• Beneficiaries do not need to take any immediate action right now.
• Once the government releases clear guidelines about registration, verification, or any online/offline application method of the Free Gas Cylinder Scheme, we will update the complete process here.
• Eligible Beneficiaries should keep their ration card, Aadhaar, and bank account linked with LPG connection updated to avoid any issues in receiving the benefit.
