Introduction of Karnataka Samagra Mathru Arogya Palane Scheme: A Brief Insight

  • The Samagra Mathru Arogya Palane Scheme is a comprehensive maternity welfare initiative launched by the Government of Karnataka to ensure safe motherhood and financial security for pregnant women and lactating mothers belonging to economically weaker sections.
  • The main aim of the scheme is to reduce maternal and infant mortality, encourage institutional deliveries, and provide complete healthcare support before and after childbirth.
  • The scheme is implemented through government hospitals, empanelled hospitals, Anganwadi centres, and ASHA workers across the state under the monitoring of Health & Family Welfare Services of the Karnataka Government.
  • This umbrella scheme includes four important sub-schemes, each designed to support women at different stages of pregnancy and post-delivery care.
  • Under the Thayi Bhagya Scheme, pregnant women can deliver their child completely free of cost at government or empanelled hospitals.
  • The government bears all expenses related to delivery, medicines, treatment, and check-ups.
  • Free transportation from home to hospital is also provided to ensure safe access to healthcare facilities.
  • The Thayi Bhagya Plus Scheme provides financial assistance to eligible women who deliver their child in a non-empanelled private hospital.
  • A fixed financial amount is given to reduce their financial burden.
  • Through the Madilu Kit Scheme, women who deliver in government hospitals receive a Madilu Kit containing essential daily-use items for both mother and newborn.
  • This kit supports basic postnatal care and hygiene needs.
  • The Prasoothi Araike Scheme provides one-time financial assistance to lactating mothers.
  • The amount varies based on category (SC/ ST or BPL) and is given in instalments to support nutrition and post-delivery care.
  • Overall, the Samagra Mathru Arogya Palane Scheme brings together healthcare services and financial assistance to protect both mother and child during pregnancy and after childbirth.
  • The Karnataka Government supports eligible women by covering medical expenses, providing essential maternity kits, arranging transportation, and granting financial aid.
  • Through this combined support system, the scheme reduces financial stress and promotes safe motherhood across the state.
  • Lakhs of women in Karnataka have already received benefits under this initiative.
  • Under each sub-scheme, the local Anganwadi Worker or the concerned government hospital enrols eligible women according to the scheme guidelines.
  • For any information, clarification, or help with registration and documents, beneficiaries can directly contact their nearest Anganwadi Worker or ASHA Worker.
