Introduction of Kerala Janani Janmaraksha Scheme: A Brief Insight
- The Government of Kerala started a major welfare scheme in 2013 to develop tribal health and nutritional values for mothers and their newborn children.
- The name of the scheme is “Janani Janmaraksha Suraksha Scheme”.
- This scheme was basically started for pregnant women belonging to scheduled tribe category of Kerala State.
- The main objective behind starting this scheme is to improve the nutritional status of pregnant women, lactating mother and her child from pre natal period to post natal period.
- Scheduled Tribes Development Department of Kerala Government is the implementing department of this scheme.
- Government of Kerala will now provide monthly financial assistance to pregnant women which covers their nutritional status from pregnancy to till her child attains the age of 1 year.
- Each Eligible Pregnant Women will get Rs. 2,000/- per month under Janani Janmarakshan Scheme of Kerala Government.
- In the initial phase of this scheme, the financial assistance provided to pregnant women is Rs. 1,000/- per month.
- But in the year 2018. Kerala Government increased the financial assistance provided under Janani Janmaraksha Scheme to Rs. 2,000/- per month.
- This scheme is not for all pregnant women of state, financial assistance of Rs. 2,000/- per month under this scheme will only provided to those pregnant women who belong to the Schedule Tribe Category.
- Janani Janma Raksha Scheme financial assistance will be started from 3rd month of pregnant women.
- Assistance will be provided for a period of 18 months till the child of woman attains the age of 1 year.
- This is direct to bank transfer scheme in which monthly financial assistance will directly transfer in the bank account of women beneficiary.
- Application Forms of Janani Janmaraksha Scheme is available at the Public Health Centre and Anganwadi Centres.
- Pregnant Women Beneficiaries can visit, take the application form, fill it, attach all the required documents and register themselves under Janani-Janmaraksha Scheme of Government of Kerala.

- This scheme has some popular and major names which are “Janani Janma Raksha Scheme Kerala” or “Janani Janmarakha Scheme Kerala” or “Janani Janmaraksha Padhati Kerala” or “Janani Janma Raksha Padhati Kerala”.

Benefits Provided to Eligible Beneficiaries
- Government of Kerala will provide the below-mentioned benefits to all eligible Pregnant Women belonging to the Schedule Tribe Category under its Janani Janmaraksha Scheme :-
- Monthly Financial Assistance will be provided to Pregnant Women.
- Pregnant Women will get assistance of Rs. 2,000/- per month.
- This Assistance will start from the 3rd Month of Pregnancy.
- Assistance will be provided for 18 months till child attains one year of age.
Eligibility Conditions Required to be Fulfilled
- Rs. 2,000/- per month assistance under Kerala Government’s Janaani Janmaraksha Scheme will only provided to those women beneficiaries who fulfill the below-mentioned eligibility criteria of scheme :-
- Pregnant Women Beneficiaries are Eligible to Apply.
- Pregnant Women should be Permanent Residents of Kerala State.
- Pregnant Women should belong to the Schedule Tribe Category.
- The Age of Pregnant Women should be 19 years or more than 19 years.
Documents Required to be Attached
- Pregnant Women Beneficiary will have to submit the following documents with Janani Janmaraksha Scheme Application Form at Anganwadi Centre at the time of applying for assistance :-
- Any Residence Proof or Domicile of Kerala.
- Schedule Tribe Category Certificate.
- Family Ration Card.
- ANC Check-Up Details/ MAMTA Card.
- Bank Account Number with IFSC Code.
- Color Photograph.
- Mobile Number.
How Beneficiaries Can Apply to Avail the Benefit of this Scheme
- Pregnant Women can apply for financial assistance under Janani Janmaraksha Scheme of Kerala Government through Offline Application Form.
- Janani Janmaraksha Scheme Application Form can be collected from the District Office of Scheduled Tribes Development Department or from Anganwadi Centres.
- Anganwadi Worker or ASHA distribute application forms free of cost to pregnant women at Anganwadi Centres.
- Collect Application Form and Fill it Correctly.
- Attach all the required documents with the application form.
- Submit Application Form of Janani Janmaraksha Scheme along with all the documents in the Anganwadi Centre.
- Anganwadi Worker will verify the received application form and and register all eligible women under Kerala Government’s Janani Janmaraksha Scheme.
- List of Eligible Pregnant Women belongs to Schedule Tribe Category will then forward to Directorate of Scheduled Tribes Development Department for further approval.
- After final approval from department. beneficiary pregnant women will get monthly financial assistance of Rs. 2,000/- per month under Janani Janmaraksha Scheme.
- Application Status of Janani Janmaraksha Scheme can be checked by contacting the Anganwadi Worker.
- At present there is no Online Application Mode or any official website of Janani Janma Raksha Scheme is available.
