Introduction of Odisha Mukhyamantri Kanya Sumangal Yojana: A Brief Insight

• Odisha Government presented its Budget for the financial year 2026-2027 in the Legislative Assembly on 20 February 2026 and announced several welfare initiatives aimed at improving social and economic security for citizens.
• Among these important announcements, the government introduced a new scheme for the welfare and future security of girls called Mukhyamantri Kanya Sumangal Yojana.
• Through this scheme, the government aims to promote the birth of girl children, strengthen their financial security, and encourage them to pursue higher education without financial pressure.
• The Women and Child Development Department of the Odisha Government will implement and monitor the scheme across the state.
• Under Mukhyamantri Kanya Sumangal Yojana, the government will create a savings instrument of Rs. 20,000 in the name of a newborn girl child.
• This savings instrument will remain active until the girl completes her graduation, ensuring long-term financial support for her education.
• After the beneficiary successfully completes her graduation, the government will provide a maturity benefit of Rs. 1,00,001 directly to her.

Benefits Provided to Eligible Beneficiaries

• Government of Odisha under its newly announced Mukhyamantri Kanya Sumangal Yojana will provide the following benefits at the time of the birth of a girl child :-
  • Saving Instrument of Rs. 20,000/- will be created in the name of a Girl Child.
  • The Maturity Period of this Saving Instrument is till the Girl Beneficiary completes her Graduation.
  • Rs. 1,00,001/- will be provided to the Girl Beneficiary after completing her graduation.

Eligibility Conditions Required to be Fulfilled

• The benefit of saving instrument worth Rs. 20,000/- will be provided to those beneficiary applicants who fulfil the below-mentioned eligibility criteria of Mukhyamantri Kanya Sumangal Yojana of the Government of Odisha :-
  • Permanent Resident Applicants of Odisha are Eligible to Apply.
  • Benefits will be applicable for the Newborn Girl Child Only.
  • Applicant’s family should belong to the Economically Weaker Section.
