Tamil Nadu Pongal Gift Hamper Scheme

Cash Prize of Rs. 1,000/- and a Gift Hamper of 6 Items (Sugar, Rice, Sugarcane Stick, Cashewnut, Cardamom and Raisins) will be provided on the occasion of Pongal to all eligible beneficiaries under Tamil Nadu Government’s Pongal Gift Scheme. Read the full article to know more.

Introduction of Pongal Gift Hamper Scheme: A Brief Insight

• Every year from 14th of January to 17th of January, people of Tamil Nadu celebrated Pongal Festival with a great joy.
• The meaning of term Pongal is “Boil Over” which is celebrated to thank the Sun and Mother Nature and Farm Animals for their contribution.
• To bring equality among celebration, Tamil Nadu Government started new welfare scheme for economically weaker section so that they can also enjoy Pongal Festival.
• Pongal Gift Hamper Scheme is the name of this new welfare scheme.
• The main aim behind starting this scheme is to provide financial support to needy people so that they can also celebrate Pongal Festival equally like others.
• Tamil Nadu Government’s  Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection Department is the implementing department of this scheme.
• The other famous name of this scheme which are popular are mentioned below :-
  • “Pongal Parisu Thogai”.
  • “Pongal Gift Hamper Thittam”.
  • “Pongal Gift Hamper Distribution Scheme”.
  • “Pongal Gift Hamper Distribution Gift Hamper Distribution Programme”.
• Beneficiaries will get Gift Hampers for Pongal Festival and a Cash Prize also to celebrate festival with joy.
• Each Gift Hamper which is provided to beneficiaries under Pongal Gift Hamper Scheme of Tamil Nadu Government will have the below mentioned items :-

• Saree and Dhoti will also distributed among beneficiaries but through another scheme named “Saree and Dhoti Distribution Scheme Tamil Nadu”.
• Apart from Gift Hamper, beneficiaries will also get one time financial assistance of Rs. 1,000/- under Pongal Gift Hamper Scheme.
• Beneficiary Families who has Sugar Card/ Rice Card/ Ration Card are eligible to get Gift Hampers along with Cash Prize of Rs. 1,000/- under Tamil Nadu Government’s Pongal Gift Hamper Scheme.
• Srilankan Refugees who are currently residing in Tamil Rehabilitation Camps are also eligible to get benefits under this scheme.
• Beneficiaries will get Gift Hampers and Cash Prizes every year on the auspicious occassion of Pongal Festival under this scheme.
• Every year more than 2 crore beneficiary families will get gift hampers and cash prize under Pongal Gift Hamper Distribution Scheme.
• It is to be noted that there is no need to apply under Pongal Gift Hamper Scheme in order to get cash prize and gift hampers.
• Collect token from Ration/ Fair Price Shops from 03-01-2025 to 08-01-2025.
• And from 09-01-2025, Distributing of Gift Hampers started among beneficiaries from Fair Price Shops.
• Beneficiary can also contact their nearest Ration Shop or Fair Price Shop in case of help or assistance required for Pongal Gift Hamper Scheme of Tamil Nadu Government.

Benefits Provided to Eligible Beneficiaries

• In Tamil Nadu Government’s Pongal Gift Hamper Scheme the below mentioned benefits will be provided all eligible beneficiaires :-
  • Beneficiaries will get a Gift Hamper of worth Rs. 1,000/-.
  • Along with Gift Hampers, a Cash Prize of Rs. 1,000/- will also Provided.

Items of Pongal Gift Hamper

• Gift Hampers which are provided to beneficiaries under Pongal Gift Hamper Scheme of Tamil Nadu Government will have below mentioned items :-
  • Sugar 1 KG.
  • Raw Rice 1 KG.
  • Cashewnut 20 Grams.
  • Raisins (Kismis) 20 Grams.
  • 1 Stick of Sugarcane.
  • Cardamom 5 Grams.
  • Saree. (For Women Beneficiary)
  • Dhoti. (For Male Beneficiary)

Eligibility Conditions Required to be Fulfilled

• Gift Hampers worth Rs. 1,000/- with Cash Prize will be provided by Tamil Nadu Government to only those people of State who met the following eligibility criteria of Pongal Gift Hamper Scheme :-
  • Permanent Resident of Tamil Nadu are Eligible to get Gift Hampers and Cash Prize.
  • Having Rice Card or Sugar Card or Ration Card is Mandatory.
  • Gift Hampers and Cash Prize will also provided to Sri Lankan Refugess living in Tamil Rehabilitation Camps.

Documents Required to be Attached

• Token will only provided to eligible beneficiaries who showed any of the below mentioned documents in order to get gift hamper under Pongal Gift Hamper Scheme of Tamil Nadu Government :-
  • Ration Card or Rice Card or Sugar Card.
  • Aadhar Card of Beneficiary.
  • Sri Lankan Refugee Card. (People living in Tamil Rehabilatation Camps)

How Beneficiaries Can Avail the Benefit of this Scheme

• There is no need to apply to receive Pongal Gift Hamper under this scheme.
• All Ration/ Rice/ Sugar Card Holders of Tamil Nadu and Sri Lankans living in Tamil Rahabilitation Camps are eligible to get gifts under Pongal Gift Scheme.
• Government of Tamil Nadu started distributing tokens through Fair Price or Ration Shops.
• Token for Pongal Gift Hamper will distributed from 03-01-2025 to 08-01-2025.
• Eligible Beneficiaries will have to visit their area’s Fair Price Shop and collect their token by showing their Rice Card or Ration Card.
• And on 09-01-2025 onwards, beneficiaries will start getting gift hampers worth Rs. 1,000/- for Pongal Festival under Tamil Nadu Government’s Pongal Gif Hamper Scheme.
• Beneficiary will have to go to Ration/ Fair Price on that time and day which is printed on their token.
• Having a Token is mandatorily required to receive gift hamper under Pongal Gift Hamper Scheme.
• Pongal Gift Hampers will be distributed among beneficiaries according to their token numbers.
• In case of any help or assistance needed regarding Pongal Gift Hamper Scheme, beneficiary can contact their nearest Fair Price/ Ration Shop without any hesitation.
