Introduction of Telangana Aids & Appliances Assistance Scheme: A Brief Insight

The Government of Telangana has launched the Aids & Appliances Assistance Scheme to empower persons with disabilities by improving their mobility, education, and livelihood opportunities.
The main objective of this scheme is to provide free assistive aids and appliances to eligible beneficiaries so they can live independently and participate actively in society.
Through this initiative, the Telangana Government will improve the quality of life of persons with disabilities in terms of mobility, education, communication, and rehabilitation.
The scheme is being implemented by the Department for Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Senior Citizens & Transgender Persons, which ensures proper verification, approval, and distribution of benefits to deserving applicants across the state.
Under this scheme, the Telangana Government provides a wide range of assistive devices free of cost, including battery wheelchairs, tricycles, mobile business battery tricycles (Empower Cart), hybrid wheelchair attachments, laptops, tablets, 5G smartphones, hearing aids, smart canes, crutches, walking sticks, MCR chappals, and more.
These aids support mobility-impaired, visually impaired, hearing-impaired, and intellectually disabled individuals based on specific eligibility criteria.
Permanent residents of Telangana who have 40% or more certified disability (as per UDID or SADAREM certificate) can apply, subject to item-wise eligibility conditions such as age, type of disability, and educational qualification.
Eligible beneficiaries can apply online through the Online Beneficiary Management and Monitoring System (OBMMS) Portal by filling out the registration form, uploading required documents, and submitting the application for verification by the District Welfare Officer.

Persons with Disabilities will receive the following assistance from the Telangana Government under its Aids and Appliances Assistance Scheme :-

The following Assistive Aids and Appliances will be provided free of cost to eligible persons with disabilities by the Telangana Government under the Aids & Appliances Assistance Scheme :-

Eligibility Conditions Required to be Fulfilled

Telangana Government will provide free assistive aids and appliances to only those beneficiaries who fulfil the below-mentioned eligibility criteria of the Aids & Appliances Assistance Scheme :-
- Applicant should be a Permanent Resident of Telangana.
- Applicant should be a Person with Disabilities having 40% or more Disability.
- Eligibility Criteria is different for every Aids & Appliances.

Aids and Appliances Wise Eligibility Criteria

The following are the Assistive Aids and Appliances Wise Eligibility Criteria :-

Item Name	Eligibility
Tricyles	The type of Disability is Locomotor Disabled. Lower Limbs should be affected. Disability should be 60% or more. Age should be 18 years or above.
Wheelchairs	Type of Disability :- Locomotor Disabled Intellectual Disabled Muscular Dystrophy Spinal Cord Injured Disability should be 60% or more. Age should be 5 years or above.
Crutches	The type of Disability is Locomotor Disabled. Lower Limbs should be affected. Disability Percentage should be 40% or more. Age should be 10 years or above.
Hearing Aids	Hearing Impaired is Eligible. Disability should be 50% or more. The age of the Applicant should be 18 years or above.
Walking Sticks	Visually Impaired is Eligible. Disability Percentage should be 50% or more. Age should be 18 years or above.
Smart Canes	Visually Impaired Students are Eligible. Disability Percentage should be 50% or more. Age should be 18 years or above.
Battery Operated Wheelchair	A person affected with both Lower Limbs having 80% or more disability. OR A person having Muscular Dystrophy with 40% or more Disability. OR A person having a spinal cord injury with 40% or more Disability. Both students and Unemployed is Eligible.
Hybrid Wheelchair Attachment + Wheelchair	Person affected with both/ single Lower Limbs. (Both upper limbs should be normal. Disability Percentage should be 40% or more. Students or Educated Unemployed having any of the following educational qualification is eligible :- Class 12th or Equivalent. Degree or Equivalent. Post Graduation. Professional Degree and Above Course.
Mobile Business Battery Tricycle (Empower Cart)	Person Affected with both/ single Lower Limbs. (Both upper limbs should be normal. Disability Percentage should be 40% or more. Educational Qualification should be 9th and below. The Age of the applicant should be 18 to 55 years.
Laptop High End	Visually and Hearing Impaired Students studying Professional Degree or Above Courses. Students with Locomotor Disability pursuing PhD Course.
Laptops for Degree Students	Visually and Hearing Impaired Students studying a Degree or Equivalent Course.
TABs	Visually and Hearing Impaired Students studying in Class 12th or Equivalent Course.
5G Smartphones	Visually and Hearing Impaired Students studying in Class 10th.

Documents Required to be Attached

The documents that are required at the time of applying for assistance from the Telangana Government under its Aid & Appliances Assistance Scheme are mentioned below :-
- Food Security Card Number or Meeseva Income Number.
- Mobile Number.
- Email ID.
- UDID or SADAREM Certificate Number.
- Aadhaar Card Number.
- Latest Photo.

How Beneficiaries Can Apply to Avail the Benefit of this Scheme

Beneficiary Persons with Disability can apply online to avail free of cost assistive aids & appliances for personal use under the Telangana Government’s Aids & Appliances Assistance Scheme.
The online application form of the Aids & Appliances Assistance Scheme is available on the Online Beneficiary Management and Monitoring System Portal.
Beneficiary Applicant will have to visit the Portal and click on Aid & Appliances Registered Beneficiary (Registration Form for Free of Cost Assistive Aids & Appliances)
The instructions of the scheme will appear on the screen of the beneficiary applicant, read it carefully.

A Registration Form of the Aids & Appliances Assistance Scheme of the Telangana Government will appear in front of the applicant.
The first section of the application form is Location Details, in which the applicant will have to fill in their place of residence details.
In the next section beneficiary will have to fill in the Applicant Details.
And, the applicant will have to fill in the Address Details and Aids and Appliances Details in the last section of the application form.
Check all the filled information in the Assistive Aids & Appliances Scheme of the Telangana Government and click on the submit button to finally submit it.
Submitted Application Form along with documents will be verified thoroughly by the District Welfare Officer.
A list of eligible persons with disabilities will be forwarded to the Department for the Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities for further verification and sanctioning of the application.
Beneficiaries selected for free-of-cost assistive aids & appliances will receive the benefits from the Department after their final selection.
