Introduction of Delhi Atal Canteen Yojana: A Brief Insight
- Bharatiya Janta Party’s first election promise was “Mahila Samriddhi Yojana” in which monetary assistance of Rs. 2,500/- per month will be provided to all eligible women beneficiaries.
- Mukhyamantri Matritva Suraksha Yojana is announced for Pregnant Women of Delhi, in which one-time financial assistance of Rs. 21,000/- with 6 Poshan Kits will be provided.
- And one of the most prominent announcements was “Atal Canteen Yojana” (दिल्ली अटल कैंटीन योजना) which was announced specifically for poor people who are not capable of managing their families’ daily food needs.
- BJP led Delhi Government launched the Atal Canteen Yojana across Delhi on 25-12-2025 on the birth anniversary of our Late PM Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
- The main objective behind starting this scheme is to ensure that no one goes to sleep hungry in Delhi and improve the nutritional status of the economically weaker sections.
- Delhi Government has a plan to open 100 Atal Canteens across Delhi through which nutritious food items at low price will be provided to people in need.

- The government decides that only 500 food plates in Lunch and 500 food plates in Dinner will be served in Atal Canteens.
- Delhi Government allocated Rs. 100 crore for the smooth implementation of the Atal Canteen Yojana in the State.
- The other major revamped welfare schemes for the people of Delhi are the increased pension amount under Old Age Pension Scheme and Widow Pension Scheme and “Free LPG Gas Cylinders on Holi and Deepavali”.

Benefits Provided to Eligible Beneficiaries
- People of Delhi who are living in Slums or JJ Clusters will get the following benefits from the Delhi Government under its Atal Canteen Yojana :-
- Nutritious and Tasty Food at a low cost will be provided.
- People will get a Food Plate at just Rs. 5/-.
- Slums and JJ Cluster Area Residents can get a Food Plate at Rs. 5/- from the Atal Canteen.
- Timing of Atal Canteen is from 11 AM to 4 PM and in the evening from 6.30 PM to 9.30 PM.
- 500 Food Plates in the morning and Noon and 500 Food Plates in the evening will be served daily in Atal Canteens.

- The following food items will be served to people in the Atal Canteen which is opened by the Delhi Government under the Atal Canteen Scheme :-

Eligibility Conditions Required to be Fulfilled
- Tasty and Nutritious Food at Rs. 5/- per plate at Atal Canteen under Delhi Government’s Atal Canteen Yojana will only be provided to those beneficiaries who fulfil the below-mentioned eligibility criteria of the scheme :-
- Residents of Delhi are Eligible to use Atal Canteens.
- The beneficiary should be residing in Slums (Jhuggi-Jhopdi) or in JJ Clusters.

- In order to get nutritious and tasty food at Atal Canteens, which have opened under Atal Canteen Yojana, the beneficiary doesn’t have to show any documents.

- After Mahila Samriddhi Yojana and Mukhyamantri Matritva Suraksha Yojana, the Atal Canteen Yojana is another pre-election promise of the BJP.
