Introduction of Assam Anna Sewa Scheme: A Brief Insight

• The Assam Government launched one of the major welfare schemes for the people of the state who are living below the poverty line.
• The name of the scheme is “Anna Sewa Scheme”.
• The main objective behind starting this scheme is to provide relief to the people who are not in a condition to buy essential food items for themselves.
• Food Public Distribution & Consumer Affairs Department of the Assam Government is the implementing department of this scheme.
• Assam Government under its Anna Sewa Scheme will provide the essential food items at a lower price than the market rate.
• Only 3 food items are available at subsidised prices for eligible beneficiaries on subsidized rates under this scheme.
• Beneficiaries can purchase Masur Dal, Salt and Sugar at subsidised rates under the Anna Sewa Scheme of the Assam Government.
• 1 Kg Masur Dal at Rs. 69/-, 1 Kg Salt at Rs. 10/- and 1 Kg Sugar at Rs. 38/- is being provided with a total cost of Rs. 117/- to beneficiaries who purchase these items from the Fair Price Shop.
• This price is applicable in the months of November and December 2025.
• From January 2026 onwards, the new price of these food items under Anna Sewa Scheme is mentioned below :-
  • Rs. 60/- per Kg :- 1 Kg Masur Dal.
  • Rs. 30/- per Kg :- 1 Kg Sugar.
  • Rs. 10/- per Kg :- 1 Kg Salt.
  • Rs. 100/- :- Total Price of 3 Items.
• All families who are covered under the National Food Security Act (NFSA) and have a valid Ration Card then they are eligible to receive the food items at a subsidised price under the Government of Assam’s Anna Sewa Scheme.
• Food Items at subsidised rates will be distributed among beneficiaries through 33,000 Fair Price Shops across Assam.
• It is estimated that around 70 Lakh families with 2.45 crore beneficiaries will get the benefit of food items at subsidised rates under the Food Subsidy Scheme of Assam, known as Anna Sewa Asoni.
• The food items of the month of November 2025 can be collected from 10-11-2025- to 19-11-2025.
• Thereafter, the food items at Fair Price Shops (Ration Shops) will be distributed from the 1st to the 10th of every month and this period of distribution is called Anna Sewa Diwas.
• Beneficiaries can all on a Toll Free Number “18003453611” for any kind of help regarding Anna Sewa Scheme of the Government of Assam.
• Further, the female members in a family can also apply for the “Orunodoi Scheme” in which a monthly financial assistance of Rs. 1,250/- per month will be provided by the Assam Government.

Benefits Provided to Eligible Beneficiaries

• Assam Government under its Anna Sewa Scheme will provide the following benefits to all eligible National Food Security Act (NFSA) Ration Card Holder Families :-
  • Food Items will be provided at a subsidised price.
  • The beneficiary can purchase it from the Ration Shops on Anna Diwas. (From 1st to 10th of Every Month)
  • Subsidy is only available on Masur Dal, Salt and Sugar.
  • One Family can purchase only 1 Kg of Masur Dal, 1 kg of Salt and 1 Kg of Sugar.

Rate of Food Items under this Scheme

• The subsidised rates on which the masur dal, salt and sugar will be provided under Anna Sewa Scheme of the Government of Assam are mentioned below :-

Eligibility Conditions Required to be Fulfilled

• Masur Dal, Sugar and Salt at the subsidised price will be provided to only those beneficiaries who fulfil the below-mentioned eligibility criteria of Assam Government’s Anna Sewa Scheme :-
  • Permanent Resident Families of Assam are Eligible.
  • Masur Dal, Salt and Sugar will be provided at subsidised rates.
  • Each Ration Card Holder Family can purchase 1 Kg per Item.

Documents Required to be Attached

• The following documents will be required at the time of availing the benefit of food items at subsidised price under the Anna Sewa Scheme of the Government of Assam :-
  • Valid NFSA Ration Card.
  • Aadhaar Card of the Ration Card Holder.

How Beneficiaries Can Avail the Benefit of this Scheme

• There is no need to apply separately for the Anna Sewa Scheme of the Government of Assam.
• Families who have an NFSA Ration Card are automatically eligible to receive the benefit of Masur Dal, Salt and Sugar at a subsidised price.
• Assam Government organises Anna Sewa Divas from 1st to 10th of every month.
• So, in every month, beneficiaries will have to visit their area’s Fair Price Shop (Ration Shop) with their Ration Card to purchase the subsidised food items.
• The operator present at the shop verifies the Ration Card of the beneficiary through PoS machines and records the biometric and captures the live photo of the beneficiary.
• After successful verification, the Ration Shop Operator will deliver the 1 Kg Masur Dal, 1 Kg Salt and 1 Kg Sugar at just Rs. 117/- in the months of November and December 2025 and at Rs. 100/- from January 2026 onwards.
