Introduction of Gujarat Farmers Accidental Insurance Scheme: A Brief Insight
- Farming is a very risky occupation in which lots of risky behaviour is involved in everyday agricultural activity.
- There will always be a need for insurance cover for farmers, which can compensate for the losses incurred.
- Gujarat Government started its own farmers’ insurance scheme on 26-01-1996 and named it as “Farmers Accidental Insurance Scheme”.
- Since then, the Government of Gujarat make tons of amendments in this scheme on 01-04-2008, 01-04-2012, 01-04-2016, and on 13-11-2018.
- Earlier, the name of this scheme was “Janta Juth Farmers Accidental Insurance Scheme”.
- Agriculture, Farmer Welfare and Co-operation Department of the Gujarat Government is the implementing department of this scheme.
- Financial Assistance will be provided by the government in case of the accidental death or disability of a farmer and their family members.
- Earlier, financial assistance had been provided only for death and disability that occurred to the farmer.
- But after certain amendments, the benefit of the Farmers’ Accidental Insurance Scheme was then extended to immediate family members also.
- Now, the Death or Disability of a Farmer, their spouse, and their legal heir are covered under the Gujarat Government’s Farmers Accidental Insurance Scheme.
- Insurance claims under this scheme will only be applicable if the age of the deceased/ disabled person is more than 5 years and less than 70 years.
- Rs. 2,00,000/- financial assistance will be provided to the applicant in case of :-
- Accidental Death.
- Complete Disability.
- Loss of Two Eyes or Two Limbs or Hand and Leg or One Eye and One Limb.
- Whereas Rs. 1,00,000/- will be provided in case of loss of One Eye or One Limb.
- Financial Assistance provided under the Farmers’ Accidental Insurance Scheme will be transferred directly to the bank account of the claimant.
- There is no Online Application Form or Official Website of the Farmers Accidental Insurance Scheme is available right now.
- Offline Application Form of the Scheme is available in the District Agriculture Officer’s Office or from the Gram Sevak Office.
- The claimant will have to file claim under Farmers Accidental Insurance Scheme of the Gujarat Government within 150 days of death or accident.

- Legal Heirs of Deceased Farmer or Family Members and Disabled Applicant Beneficiary will get the following benefits from the Gujarat Government under its Farmers Accidental Insurance Scheme :-
- Financial Assistance will be provided in case of the Accidental Death of a Farmer or their Family Member.
- Financial Assistance will also be provided in case of Permanent or Partial Disability.

Eligibility Conditions Required to be Fulfilled
- Government of Gujarat sets the following eligibility criteria for applicants, and the benefits of the Farmers Accidental Insurance Scheme will only be provided to those applicants who fulfill the eligibility conditions of scheme :-
- Only Permanent residents of Farmers and their Families are Eligible.
- There should be an Agriculture Land or Record in the name of the Farmer.
- The cause of Death/ Disability of Farmers or Family members should be Accidental.
- The Age of the Deceased or Disabled should be between 5 to 70 years.
- Natural or Suicidal Death is Not Eligible for Claim.
Documents Required to be Attached
- Applicant Beneficiary will have to submit the following documents at the time of claiming the insurance amount under the Farmers Accidental Insurance Scheme of the Gujarat Government :-
- Post Mortem Report. (In Case of Death)
- Copy of First Information Report. (FIR)
- Panchnama or Police Inquest Report or Court Order.
- Death Certificate.
- Certificate of Disability. (In Case of Disability)
- SDM Report or Police Tapas Report.
- Valid Identity Card of Deceased or Disabled Applicant.
- Aadhaar Card.
- Recent Color Photograph.
- Bank Account Number and IFSC Code.
How Beneficiaries Can Apply to Avail the Benefit of this Scheme
- In case of the death of a farmer or a family member or if a farmer or a family member suffers partial or permanent disability, then the applicant can claim the amount of insurance by applying under the Farmers Accidental Insurance Scheme through the Offline Application Form.
- It is mandatory for a applicant to apply for the insurance claim amount within 150 days from the date of the deceased’s death/ accident.
- Gujarat Government’s Farmers Accidental Insurance Scheme Application Form can be collected free of cost at any of the below mentioned government offices :-
- Gram Sevak.
- Assistant Director of the Agriculture Office.
- District Agriculture Officer’s Office.
- Collect the Application Form from the above-mentioned offices and fill it correctly without making any mistakes.
- Attach all the required documents with the application form.
- Application Form of Farmers Accidental Insurance Scheme, along with all the documents, will be submitted in the same office from where the application form is collected.
- District Agriculture Officer will verify the received application form and documents and make a list of eligible applicants.
- A list of Eligible Applicants will be forwarded to the Agriculture, Farmer Welfare ,and Co-operation Department for approval.
- Approved List of Eligible Applicants will be forwarded to empanaled insurance company for disbursement of the insurance company.
- Insurance Company will disburse the insurance amount directly in the bank account of the applicant.
