Introduction of PM Internship Scheme: A Brief Insight

Ministry of Corporate Affairs of the Government of India launched the massive employment-driven scheme named “PM Internship Scheme” on 3rd of October 2024.
The main objective behind starting this scheme is to create a skillful environment for unemployed youth so that they can explore better employment opportunities in the future.
Ministry of Corporate Affairs is the implementing ministry of this scheme.
With the help of the PM Internship Scheme, the Government of India plans to provide skill training to around 1 crore youth in the upcoming 5 years.
Youths from the age group of 21 years to 24 years will be selected under the PM Internship Scheme for internship in order to provide them with skill training.
Internship will be provided to selected youth in the Top 500 Companies of India which polishes the skills of selected interns and prepares them for open competition by giving them some real-time work experience.
The period of Internship which is provided under the PM Internship Scheme is for 12 months.
During the period of 12 months of internship, the beneficiary intern will also get a monthly stipend of Rs. 5,000/- for their expenses.
Out of Rs. 5,000/-, the share of the Central Government is Rs. 4,500/- per month, and the remaining Rs. 500/- per month will be provided by the Partner Company.
Apart from a monthly stipend, selected interns will also get one one-time grant of Rs. 6,000/- at the time of joining under the PM Internship Scheme.
Life Insurance Cover and Accidental Cover will also provided to selected interns under the PM Internship Scheme through the Central Government’s PM Suraksha Bima Yojana and PM Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana.
The insurance Premium of both scheme will be borne by the Central Government.
Selected Interns will also get a Certificate of Internship Completion after completing their internship after 12 months which can give them an upper hand during job interviews.
Youths who are Class 10th, Class 12th, ITI, Polytechnic Diploma, Graduation Course (BA, B.Com, B.Sc, BBA, BCA, B.Pharma) and in the age group of 21 years to 24 years are only eligible to apply for internship under PM Internship Scheme.
Professionals like CA, MBBS, Advocates, MBA, BDS, and Youth who completed their studies from top Indian Colleges like IIT, IIIT, NIT. NLU, IIM are not eligible to apply for internships.
If any applicant youth family annual income is more than Rs. 8 lakh per year then they are also not eligible to apply for PM Internship Scheme.
Only unemployed youth who are currently not in any type of employment or currently not studying any regular of full-time educational course are eligible for internship under this scheme.
Registration of Internship, Verification by Partner Company, Offer Letter by Partner Company, Acceptance of Offer Letter by Youth, and all the other processes will be done only through the Official Website of PM Internship Scheme.
Registration under the PM Internship Scheme is completely free of cost.

The other major and popular name of this scheme is “Prime Minister Internship Scheme” or “PM Internship Yojana” or “Prime Minister Internship Yojana” or “पीएम इंटर्नशिप योजना”.

Benefits Provided to Eligible Beneficiaries

Government of India through the Ministry of Corporate Affairs will provide the following benefits to selected interns under the PM Internship Scheme alias Prime Minister Internship Scheme :-
- Selected Interns will get 12 Months of Internship in Top 500 Companies.
- Monthly Stipend during the Internship will also provided.
- Each Intern will get monthly assistance of Rs. 5,000/- per month.
- Out of Which, Rs. 4,500/- per month will be provided by the Government of India, and Rs. 500/- per month will be provided by the Company.
- Apart from that, one-time grant of Rs. 6,000/- will also provided to Selected Interns.
- Interns will also get Insurance Coverage under the Central Government’s Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana and Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana.
- Government of India will pay the Insurance Premium Amount of Rs. 20/- and Rs. 436/- of both the schemes.
- Interns will get an Internship Completion Certificate after completing the Internship.

Eligibility Conditions Required to be Fulfilled

Beneficiary Youth will have to fulfill the below-mentioned eligibility criteria of the PM Internship Scheme in order to avail the benefit of an internship of 12 months with stipend :-
- Applicant Youth should be an Indian Resident.
- Applicant Youth should not be a Full Time Employee.
- Applicant should have Passed Class 10th or higher.
- Age of the Applicant Youth should be more than 21 years and below 24 years.
- Applicant should not be studying in any full-time or Regular Educational Course in any Institute.
- Applicant Youth’s Family Annual Income should be less than Rs. 8,00,000/- per year.
- If Applicant Youth has a Family Member who is a Government Employee then they are not eligible to apply.
- If the Applicant Youth Studying any Educational Course through Distance or Online Mode then they are eligible to apply.

Ineligibility Criteria of Scheme

If any interns fall within the ambit of any of the below-mentioned ineligibility criteria of the PM Internship Scheme then they are not eligible to apply for an internship under this scheme :-
- If the family’s Annual Income is more than Rs. 8 lakh per year.
- If there is a Government Employee in a Family.
- If Applicant Youth is a Beneficiary of National Apprentice Promotion Scheme or National Apprentice Training Scheme.
- If Applicant Youth avail the benefit of any Apprenticeship Training, Skill Training, Internship or Student Training from any Central or State Government Scheme.
- CA, MBA, MBBS, BDS or any other High Degree Passed Youth.
- IIM, IIT, IISER, NIT, IIIT, and NID Passed Youth.

Documents Required to be Attached

Applicant Youth will have to upload the following documents on the portal at the time of applying for an internship under Central Government’s PM Internship Scheme :-
- Scanned Copy of Aadhaar Card.
- Color Passport Size Photograph.
- Documents Related to Education.
- Bank Account Number with IFSC Code.
- Certificate of Income.
- Caste Certificate. (If Applicable)

How Beneficiaries Can Apply to Avail the Benefit of this Scheme

Government of India launched PM Internship Scheme Website to accept Online Applications from interested youths in order to provide them internships under this scheme.
The process of Application for internship is very simple.
Applicant Youth will have to visit the Official Website of the PM Internship Scheme and Select Youth Registration.
Enter your 10-digit Mobile Number and Click on Submit.
An OTP will be sent by Portal after that Choose Password.
After choosing the password, the applicant youth will automatically get logged in.
Applicant Youth will have to do Aadhaar-based e-KYC before completing the profile.
Once Aadhaar is verified then the Applicant Youth will have to complete their profile by filling in the details in below mentioned steps :-
- Personal Details.
- Contact Details.
- Education Details.
- Bank Details.
- Skills and Languages.
Once the profile of the applicant youth is completed they are eligible to apply for internship under the PM Internship Scheme.
From the Applicant Dashboard, Click on Apply for Internship
A List of Internship Opportunities with Company Names and all details will come out of which applicant youth can choose and apply for internships maximum 3 companies.
Check the filled details and Submit the Internship Application Form of the PM Internship Scheme.
Internship Application will be submitted to a partner company.
Partner Company will verify the received internship application form and offer internship opportunities to eligible youth.
Applicant Youth will have to accept the Internship Offer through the PM Internship Scheme Website and physically join the internship as and when mentioned in the offer letter.
Selected Interns will then get internship training for 12 months with Rs. 5,000/- per month stipend and one one-time grant of Rs. 6,000/- directly in their bank account under the Prime Minister Internship Scheme.
