Introduction of Tamil Nadu Tamizh Pudhalvan Scheme: A Brief Insight

Government of Tamil Nadu started the Pudhumai Penn Scheme, popularly known as Moovalur Ramamirtham Ammaiyar Higher Education Assurance Scheme for girls students to encourage them to pursue higher education, in which monthly assistance of Rs. 1,000/- will be provided.
Economically Deprived Boys Students will be left out of this scheme.
So, during the budget announcement for the year 2024-2025, the Finance Minister of Tamil Nadu announced a new scheme for boys students named “Tamizh Pudhalvan Scheme”.
The main objective of this scheme is to encourage boys students to pursue for higher education, and this scheme will also decrease the school dropouts among boys students.
Tamizh Pudhalvan Scheme was officially launched on 09-08-2024 in the whole of Tamil Nadu.
This scheme is implemented by the Social Welfare & Women Empowerment Department of the Government of Tamil Nadu.
It is estimated that more than 3 lakh boys students will benefit from this scheme.
Monthly financial assistance will be provided to all eligible boys students under the Tamizh Pudhalvan Scheme.
Boys Students who completed their studies from Class 6th to Class 12th from the Government of Tamil Nadu or Government Aided Schools are eligible to get monthly financial assistance of Rs. 1,000/-.
It is mandatory for a student to get admission in government government-recognized college or university in any graduation, diploma, or ITI course to get a monthly scholarship under the Tamil Pudhalvan Scheme of the Tamil Nadu Government.
Those boys students who are not eligible to get assistance under this scheme and who completed their basic education from private schools.
Tamizh Pudhalvan Thittam Application Process is online in which beneficiary boys students will have to apply for monthly assistance by themselves through UMIS Portal.
Get UMIS/ EMIS ID from the Nodal Officer of the College/ University in which the boy student is currently studying and apply online for Tamizh Pudhalvan Scheme.
Government of Tamil Nadu allocated a budget of Rs. 420/- crore for the smooth and proper implementation of this scheme.
Contact the Social Welfare Officer or the Nodal Officer of the College/ University in case any help or assistance is required regarding the Tamizh Pudhalvan Scheme of the Tamil Nadu Government.

Benefits Provided to Eligible Beneficiaries

Boys Students who completed their Class 6th to Class 12th Studies from a Government or Government Aided School and are currently studying in any graduation course will get the following benefits under Tamil Nadu Government’s Tamizh Pudhalvan Scheme :-
- Monthly Financial Assistance will be provided.
- Boys Students will get Rs. 1,000/- per month.

Eligibility Conditions Required to be Fulfilled

Government of Tamil Nadu will provide the monthly educational assistance of Rs. 1,000/- to only those students who fulfill the following eligibility criteria of Tamizh Pudhalvan Scheme :-

Permanent Resident Male Students of Tamil Nadu are Only Eligible to Apply.
Male Student should have studied his Class 6th to Class 12th in a Tamil Nadu Government or Government Aided School.
Boys Students who completed their Class 6th to Class 12th Studies from Government Aided Tamil Medium Schools are also Eligible to apply.
Beneficiary Students of other Scholarship schemes are also Eligible to get Assistance.
Boys Student should be currently studying in any of the below-mentioned graduation course :-
- 3-Year Degree Course.
- 4-Year Engineering Course.
- 5-Year Medical Course.
- 3 or 4 Year Law/ Medical Course.
- Diploma, Polytechnic, and ITI Course.
- Any Graduation Equivalent Course.

Beneficiary Boy Student will have to submit the following documents at the time of applying for monthly financial assistance of Rs. 1,000/- from Tamil Nadu Government under Tamizh Pudhalvan Scheme :-
- Permanent Residence Proof of Tamil Nadu.
- Boy Student Aadhaar Card.
- Bank Account Number with IFSC Code.
- Educational Documents. (Class 10th and Class 12th Marksheet and Certificate)

How Beneficiaries Can Apply to Avail the Benefit of this Scheme

Beneficiary Boys Students can apply for monthly financial assistance of Rs. 1,000/- per month as promised by the Tamil Nadu Government under Tamiz Pudhalvan Scheme through Online Application Form.
Tamizh Pudhalvan Scheme Online Application Form is available on the University Management Information System (UMIS) of the Government of Tamil Nadu.
Visit the Official Portal and Click on Login.
Beneficiary Boy Student will need the User Name and Password to fill the Application Form of Tamil Pudhalvan Scheme.
The college/ University will primarily register boys’ students on the UMIS Portal and generate UMIS/ EMIS ID, and provide it to students.
User Name is EMIS or UMIS ID, which will be obtained from the College/ Institute Nodal Officer in which the boy students are currently studying in a graduation course.
Password is the Last 4 Digit of the boy student’s registered mobile number and their year of birth.

Now fill in Username and Password and click on Login.
Choose the Tamizh Pudhalvan Scheme and fill in the details in the Online Application Form.
Upload all the required documents on the portal.
Preview the Application Form and click on the Submit Button to submit it.
Print the filled Application Form, attach all the documents in hard copy, and submit it in the college/ university.
Nodal Officer of the College/ University will verify the received application form and documents.
Eligible and Selected Boys Students List of Tamizh Pudhalvan Scheme will be forwarded to the concerned department for disbursement of monthly assistance.
Selected Students will get Rs. 1,000/- monthly assistance directly in their bank account under Tamizh Pudhalvan Thittam.
Application Status of the Tamizh Pudhalvan Scheme can be checked by contacting the nodal officer of the college/ university.
