Engineering Graduates and Postgraduates can now work as interns for 6 months and gain real-time work experience with government professionals under the NeGD Technical Internship Programme. A monthly stipend of Rs. 20,000/- will also be provided to selected interns.

Introduction of NeGD Technical Internship Programme: A Brief Insight

• National e-Governance Division of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology started a new internship scheme for students who belong to the technical field.
• The name of the internship programme is “NeGD Technical Internship Programme”.
• The main aim of the government behind starting this technical internship scheme is to provide real world and professional environment to students from the technical field so that they can gain some practical experience.
• Technical Internship Programme will be implemented by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology in collaboration with its independent National e-Governance Division.
• 6 months internship will be provided to selected interns under the NeGD Internship Programme along with a monthly stipend of Rs. 20,000/- per month.
• In that 6-month period of internship, selected intern students work on live projects under the mentorship of experienced professionals and learn problem-solving skills.
• As this is specifically a technical internship programme, so only engineering graduates and post-graduates are eligible to apply for a 6-month internship under the NeGD Technical Internship Programme.
• If any student has less than 75% marks in their qualifying degree, then they are not eligible to apply for this internship programme.
• Technical internship will only be offered to those students who passed their qualifying exams in the year 2024 or 2025 or will going to be passed in the year 2026.
• Government will conduct the NeGD Technical Internship Program twice every year, known as the January Session and the July Session.
• The last date to apply for an internship for the July Session is 15th of July 2025.
• It is an offline internship programme in which selected interns will have to join the NeGD Headquarters and work daily during working hours.
• Interns will receive the Certificate of Internship after successful completion of the internship, which is subject to certification by their mentor.
• Applicants can also go through with other internship schemes of the Ministry of Electronics and Technology, which are the “Digital India Internship Scheme”.
• Application Form of the NeGD Technical Internship Programme is available on the Official Website of MeitY.
• Central Government also provided internship opportunities to youth under “”Pradhan Mantri Internship Scheme” in which 12-month internship with a monthly stipend will be provided to selected interns.

Benefits Provided to Eligible Beneficiaries

• Ministry of Electronics and Technology in collaboration with National e-Governance Division will provide the following benefits to interns selected under the NeGD Technical Internship Programme :-
  • 6 Months Internship Opportunity to work with the Government.
  • Monthly Stipend of Rs. 20,000/- per month.
  • Certificate of Internship will also be provided to Interns.

Eligibility Conditions Required to be Fulfilled

• 6 months technical internship with a monthly stipend of Rs. 20,000/- per month will be provided to only those applicants who meet the below-mentioned eligibility criteria of the NeGD Technical Internship Programme of the Ministry of Electronics and Technology :-
  • Indian Citizens are only Eligible.
  • Applicant should be an Engineering Graduate or Post Graduate or Equivalent.
  • Applicant should have a minimum of 75% marks in their Qualifying Examination.
  • Applicant who passed their qualifying examination in the years 2024 and 2025 are eligible to apply.
  • Applicants whose degree will going to be completed in the year 2026 can also apply for an internship.

• Beneficiary Applicant will have to submit the following documents at the time of applying for internship and at the time of joining the internship provided under NeGD Technical Internship Programme :-
  • Marksheet of Qualifying Examination.
  • Aadhaar Card of Applicant.
  • Bank Account Number with IFSC Code.
  • Mobile Number.
  • Email ID.
  • Recent Color Photograph.

How Beneficiaries Can Apply to Avail the Benefit of this Scheme

• Engineering Graduates or post-graduates can apply for a 6-month technical internship under the NeGD Technical Internship Programme through an online application form.
• Visit the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology Official Website and Choose the Technical Internship Programme 2025.
  
• Scroll down a little bit and you can find a Google Forms link.
  
• Fill out the Online Application Form of the NeGD Technical Internship Programme for the year 2025.
• Upload all the required documents on the portal.
• Preview the NeGD Technical Internship Programme Online Form and click on the submit button to submit it.
• Concerned officials will scrutinize the received application form and documents and invite selected applicants for an interview.
• Applicants selected on the basis of an interview will then be called for an offline internship for 6 months at the National e-Governance Headquarters.
• The last date to apply for the Technical Internship Programme of NeGD is 15-06-2025.

Interns Selection Process

• Officials will shortlist the interns for the internship based on their marks in the qualifying degree.
• Shortlisted applicants will then be called for an interview.
• The selection panel will give weightage to those students who have done relevant certification courses.
• Panel will also give weightage to those students who passed out from the top 100 colleges per year as per the ranking given by the National Institute Ranking Framework.
• The following members are in the selection committee that selects interns for internships under the NeGD Technical Internship Programme :-
  • Department/ Project Representatives.
  • Members from HR.
• After the final selection, the selection committee will present its recommendation to the President and CEO of National e-Governance Division for final decision.

Eligible Areas of Interest for Technical Internship

• The following roles and responsibilities will be provided to interns selected under the NeGD Technical Internship Programme :-

  UI-UX Designer Frontend Developer :- React JavaScript Angular Typescript	Standardisation of Government Website by using GIGW Compliance and Industry best practices. Creative design by using Figma / other applications. Design/ Develop responsive and user-friendly web interfaces using frontend technology. Develop reusable components. Ensure cross-browser compatibility and mobile responsiveness. Collaborate with backend teams for seamless API integration.
  Artificial Intelligence Machine Learning Internet of Things	Work on AI-based modules for governance platforms (e.g., NLP for chatbots or document summarization). Develop chatbots (conversational RAG, agentic RAG, etc.) using GenAI models. Data handling for knowledge base creations. Perform feature engineering, model tuning, and validation for specific use cases. Evaluate open-source AI tools or APIs for integration into applications.
  Product Testing Security Testing Software Tester Quality Analyst	Assist in conducting scans on web applications and servers using tools like Nessus, Nmap, or Burp Suite and prepare VAPT reports outlining risks and possible mitigation strategies. Perform basic security testing of applications (e.g., SQL injection, XSS, broken authentication). Write initial plan, test cases and test scripts for web and mobile applications. Perform manual, automated testing and AI Bot testing using tools like Selenium or Postman. Track bugs, report issues, and ensure software quality before deployment. Participate in regression, performance, and security testing.
  Java PHP Python Developer NodeJS Dotnet	Develop or maintain modules in web-based applications using the latest technology. Write RESTful APIs and integrate third-party services. Debug and troubleshoot backend issues in existing systems/ code. Participate in code reviews and adhere to secure coding practices. Development of study and best practices for a highly scalable application.
  Database Programmer	Assist in managing and optimizing databases like MySQL, PostgreSQL, or MongoDB. Monitor database performance and ensure regular backups and recovery mechanisms. Create and manage database schemas, indexes, access controls, and query optimisation. Support data migration, replication, and security practices. Manage large databases and clustering.
  Business Analyst	Preparation of Documents: Translate project requirements into technical / non-technical documentation and user stories. Conduct data analysis and create reports for internal departments. Referring of SRS, FRS, etc. according to the core structure/development. Create flowcharts, wireframes, and documentation for project modules.
  Data Engineering & Analytics	Assist in building or maintaining ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) pipelines to collect and process data from various government portals and systems. Work with SQL or NoSQL databases to clean, organize, and structure large datasets for analytics and reporting. Create dashboards and reports using tools like Power BI, Tableau, or Python libraries to present insights to stakeholders. Use Python, Shell scripts, or tools like Apache Airflow to automate repetitive data tasks and ensure timely data availability. Assist in integrating data from multiple sources (APIs, CSVs, databases) into unified data repositories or data lakes for analysis.
  DevOps Automation and Infra Monitoring	Work on creating virtual machines, storage buckets, and configuring cloud services as per project requirements. Learn and assist in CI/CD pipeline setup using tools like Jenkins, GitLab CI, Linux and GitHub Actions. Help automate build, test, and deployment workflows for faster and more reliable software delivery. Support in environment configuration and containerization using Docker or Kubernetes. Write scripts in Python, Bash, or PowerShell to automate repetitive tasks like deployments, backups, or server health checks. Configure and monitor logs and performance metrics using tools like Prometheus, Grafana, or ELK Stack.
