Introduction of Punjab Ashirwad Scheme: A Brief Insight

  • Punjab is a financially well-off state, but some social factions still live below the poverty line.
  • Those sections of society have a lot of responsibilities on them regarding their family survival.
  • And if there is an unmarried girl in a family, then the financial responsibility of marriage is also added.
  • Many people are not financially well enough to conduct the affairs of marriage as per their wishes.
  • So to support them financially Government of Punjab provides financial assistance to them under the Punjab Ashirwad Scheme.
  • It was initially started on the 1st of April 1997 as “Shagun Scheme”.
  • Punjab Government’s Department of Social Justice & Empowerment and Minorities is the nodal department of this scheme.
  • That time the financial assistance under this scheme was Rs. 5,100/- (Fifty One Hundred Rupees Only).
  • Then, on the 26th of January 2004, there was a rise in the ” Ashirwad Scheme”.
  • Government of Punjab relaunches the “Shagun Scheme” after renaming it as “Ashirwad Scheme”.
  • The financial assistance was also revised from Rs. 5,100/- to Rs. 6,100/- at the time of relaunch.
  • Then, after 3 years on 1st of April 2006, the Government of Punjab increased the financial assistance under the Ashirwad Scheme from Rs. 6,100/- to Rs. 15,000/-.
  • On 1st of July 2017, the Government of Punjab again revised the amount of Ashirwad Yojana from Rs. 15,000/- to Rs. 51,000/-.
  • Two Girls per family are eligible to avail the benefit of financial assistance under the Punjab Ashirwad Yojana.
  • If any applicant’s annual income is more than Rs. 32,790/- then they are not eligible to apply for financial assistance for marriage under the Ashirwad Scheme.
  • Eligible Brides of Punjab State can apply for the Ashirwad Scheme, also known as the Punjab Marriage Assistance Scheme, by submitting an Online Application Form on the Ashirwad Yojana Official Website.
  • Beneficiaries can also submit an Offline Application Form of Ashirwad Scheme alias Marriage Assistance Scheme in the Office of the District Welfare Officer.
  • Beneficiaries of the Widow and Destitute Women Pension Scheme can also apply for the Ashirwad Scheme if they wish to remarry.

  • The following financial assistance will be given to the Brides of Punjab for their Marriage under the Ashirwad Scheme of the Punjab Government:-
    • Financial Assistance of Rs. 51,000/- for Marriage.

Eligibility Conditions Required to be Fulfilled

  • The following eligibility conditions is set by the Punjab Government to grant the benefit of financial assistance of Rs. 51,000/- for Marriage under the Ashirwad Scheme :-
    • The bride should be a permanent resident of the State of Punjab.
    • The age of the Bride should be 18 Years or above.
    • The Annual Family Income of the Bride should not be more than Rs. 32,790/- per Year.
    • Brides belonging to the below-mentioned category are only eligible to apply for financial assistance for marriage under the Ashirwad Scheme :-
      • Schedule Caste
      • Christian
      • Muslim
      • Backward Class
      • Economically Backward Class
      • Daughter of Widows
      • Re-marriage of Schedule Caste Widows or Divorcees

Online Application Procedure

  • The bride herself or someone on their behalf can apply for financial assistance for marriage under the Government of Punjab’s Ashirwad Scheme alias Punjab Marriage Assistance Scheme through its Official Website.

  • Fill the Applicant Details and Bride Details in the Registration Form of Ashirwad Scheme.

  • Login in to the Ashirwad Scheme Portal with the received User Name and Password.

  • Offline Application Form of Ashirwad Scheme can be collected free of cost from the office of the District Welfare Officer.
  • Take the Application Form, fill it correctly, and attach all the required documents with it.
