Telangana Gruha Jyothi Scheme

Free of Cost Electricity will be provided under Gruha Jyothi Scheme to those households of Telangana whose monthly electricity consumption is up to 200 units per month. Domestic Electricity Consumers are eligible to apply.

Introduction of Gruha Jyothi Scheme Telangana: A Brief Insight

• At the time of Telangana Legislative Assembly Election, Congress Party had announced lots of welfare schemes in order to gain the votes and win the election.
• After winning the election, Congress Party fulfilled almost all election promise of their.
• Mahalakshmi Scheme is already started in State in which monthly financial assistance of Rs. 2,500/- per month, LPG Gas cylinder at Rs. 500/- and free bus travel in TSRTC buses will be provided to women of State.
• Indiramma Indlu Housing Assistance Scheme is also implemented by Telangana Government in which financial assistance for house construction will be provided.
• Rythu Bharosa Scheme and Indiramma Atmiya Bharosa Scheme in which yearly assistance to farmers and tenant farmers will be provided is going to be launched on 26th of January 2025.
• Gruha Jyothi Scheme had also announced by Congress Party at the time of election in which party promised to provide free of cost electricity to every household.
• Earlier this scheme with same name “Gruha Jyothi Scheme” had also started by Congress Party when they formed their government after winning the assembly election.
• Party fulfilled its promised and launched Gruha Jyothi Scheme in Telangana in 14.03.2024.
• Electricity Department and Electricity Regulatory Commission of Telangana is the implementing agencies of this scheme.
• The main aim behind starting this scheme is to provide relief to needy families in electricity bills by providing them subsidy which reduced their financial burden.
• Other major well known names of this scheme are “Gruha Jyothi Pathakam” or “Griha Jyothi Scheme” or “Free Electricity Scheme of Telangana”.
• Each household of Telangana will now get free of cost electricity under Gruha Jyothi Scheme.
• Free Electricity under Gruha Jyothi Scheme will only applicable if a family household consumes monthly electricity of 200 units per month.
• This means if any households use more than 200 units of electricity in a month then they are not eligible to get free of cost electricity under Gruha Jyothi Scheme of Telangana Government.
• Only Domestic Electricity Consumers are eligible to get free electricity up to 200 units per month under this scheme.
• Zero Electricity Bills will be generated by Electricity Distribution Company to every household who consumes up to 200 units of electricity per month.
• According to government sources, more than 49 lakh beneficiaries 3.65 crore electricity bills will be covered Gruha Jyothi Scheme and a subsidy of 1,336 crore will be provided.
• Tenants are also eligible to apply under Gruha Jyothi Scheme but they has to produce a no objection certificate from property owner.
• Application Forms of Gruha Jyothi Scheme can be collected from Electricity Distribution Companies (DISCOMS) Offices.
• In case of any help or assistance required regarding this scheme, beneficiaries can contact their nearest electricity department office.

Benefits Provided to Eligible Beneficiaries

• Telangana Government will provide the below mentioned benefits to all eligible households of State under its Gruha Jyothi Scheme :-
  • Monthly Domestic Electricity Free of Cost will be Provided to Households.
  • Each Beneficiary Household can consume 200 units per month of electricity without paying any bill.
  • Electricity Department of Telangana will issue zero bills to those consumers who consume less than 200 units of electricity in a month.

Eligibility Conditions Required to be Fulfilled

• Free Electricity up to 200 units on domestic connection under Telangana Government’s Gruha Jyothi Scheme will only provided to those households who fulfill the below mentioned eligibility criteria of scheme :-
  • Applicant Beneficiary should be a Permanent Resident of Telangana.
  • Household of Beneficiary Applicant should consume monthly Electricity up to 200 units.
  • Only domestic electricity connection users are eligible to receive free electricity under this scheme.
  • Beneficiary should have Aadhaar Linked White Ration Card.
  • Tenants are also Eligible to Apply for Gruha Jyothi Scheme of Telangana.

Documents Required to be Attached

• Each household beneficiary will have to attach the below mentioned documents with Gruha Jyothi Scheme Application Form at the time of registering for the benefits of free electricity up to 200 units per month :-
  • Domicile Certificate or Any Residence Proof of Telangana.
  • BPL or Family Ration Card/ Food Security Card.
  • Beneficiary Applicant Aadhar Card.
  • Latest Electricity Bill.
  • Mobile Number and Email.
  • Voter Identity Card.
  • 1 Passport Size Photograph.

How Beneficiaries Can Apply to Avail the Benefit of this Scheme

• Beneficiary households can avail the benefit of free of cost electricity up to 200 units of electricity under Gruha Jyothi Scheme of Telangana Government by applying through Application Form.
• Telangana Gruha Jyothi Scheme Application Form can be collected from any of the following offices :-
  • Electricity Department Office.
  • Office of Municipal Corporation.
  • Gram Sabha/ Gram Panchayat Office.
  • Praja Palana Camps.
• Application Form is completely free of cost, no amount should be charged from consumer.
• Take Application Form and fill it correctly without making any mistakes.
• Attach residence proof, aadhaar card, ration card and latest electricity bill with the application form.
• Application Form of Gruha Jyothi Scheme with all the documents will be submitted in the electricity department office or in praja palana camps.
• Concerned Officials will accept the application form and documents and verify it thoroughly.
• Eligible Households details will be then entered in Praja Palana Portal by the officials.
• Further concerned department will gave final approval to eligible households in order to provide them free of cost electricity up to 200 units per month under Gruha Jyothi Scheme.
• Electricity Distribution companies will then distribute zero electricity bill to every household that consumes less than 200 unit of electricity per month.
• Telangana Government will then release subsidy amount in favour of Electricity Distribution Companies to compensate them the amount of bills generated by them for Gruha Jyothi Scheme Beneficiaries.
• Beneficiary Applicant can also check their Telangana Gruha Jyothi Scheme Application Status through their Application Number on Praja Palana Portal.
